Are you disappointed in the 21st century?

diffusionx's WTC post spurred me to post this thread.

Sure there are plenty of reasons to be disappointed with the 21st Century. The world economy is in the shitter, Israel and Palestine are still determined to annihilate each other, we're on the brink of war, famine and poverty are still rife...I could go on.

But beside all that, the 21st century has failed to meet my childhood expectations. I'm sure anyone living today who saw "Back to the Future II" knows where I'm coming from. When I was a kid I fully expected to live on a moon base, ride space planes to go from New York to Sydney in a matter of hours, have bionic implants, own a flying car and/or jet pack, and see Jupiter's moons.

OK, maybe not all of these things, but at least one or two of them.

But at the rate things are going, I'll be lucky if I get to visit space ONCE before I die. Very disappointing.

Anyone else feel the same way I do?

Yeah, I feel ya. The more into the future we go, the less futuristic it looks. That's why Star Trek has always been a bitter sweet fantasy for me. I know we will never get to that level, but we can dream can't we?

I agree. I can't believe we still drive cars. I wanted one of those things on the Jetson's. We can't even make a car that lasts more than 5 years without extensive maintenance. And where are hover boards? In a way, I'm a sort of glad we aren't like the world in Back to the Future II. It's a little too impersonal. I like buying a soda from a real person and other small stuff like that. I just wish I had the flying car so I can escape traffic on I-35 and 635 and I-20 and I-30 and 75 Central Expressway and...sigh

I think in 2010 we will still be waiting for the movable sidewalks and the hovercars.

I want a Jetsons-esque car-into-briefcase thing, it'd be so handy. I'm disappointed in the 21st century so far, but it could get better.

I still have to get up in order to go to the bathroom. this century is so analog.

I hear that this car works but how high can it hover like 5 feet? It looks cool but in this current economy wouldn't really work for us unless someone found a revolutionary new power source or a better way to harness solar/electric energy. Plus the parts for this thing must be crazy.
