Getting a HOSTS file will do it without running a program!

KaZaA Lite comes with one.
It makes your computer think it hosts the sites in question, and when it can't find them, it gives up.
I'd also reccomend taking the GameSpot link outta there, or you're not gonna see any of their screenshots.
Remington 12 Gauge. Buck shot, it'll spread and kill the buggers.
Get Pop-up Stopper here:
pop up stopper
It works well and its free.
Ad Blocker also works pretty well. Most any free pop-up killer will do the trick though.

Jesus, I can't believe I've been using IE for all this time. What a piece of flaming garbage. Try out this browser... NO ads, and a mcuh superier setup/design/layout.
Cons: You will run into a few conflicts on a couple sites.
I second the vote for Mozilla. I've found it to be more compatible with various sites than Opera, the skins are cool, and the tabbed browsing is neat as well. Never had it crash on me yet. If you must use IE (which even I still do half the time at work), I've heard good things about Pop Up Stopper.

Last time I checked Opera does have ads that will stay until you register it. I do like Opera as well, but I dont like the fact it uses Sun Java which for some retarded reason gives me problems while Microsoft VM doesnt. If you plan on registering Opera then its definitely recommended.
