Remembering the Black Ice Demo CD
While cleaning out a box full of old game stuff, I came across my copy of the "Hear it Now, Play It Later" demo CD that you received when preordering the PSX waaaaay back in '95. I popped it into my PS2 and proceeded to relive those heady days when I could be amazed by a bunch of colored balls bouncing on screen at once. Looking back, I think that the tech demos were a really cool way to show what the system was capable of. In fact, loading up the T-Rex demo is still pretty impressive today. I think that more system developers (Sony included- I still haven't received my free demo disc, and I got the PS2 at midnight on the release date) should release these tech demos for their systems because they're just cool to mess around with. Plus it would be a fun preorder gimmick that would give you a glimpse of what the system can do.
