Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad it's turning out well :) It didn't turn out looking quite like I thought it would, but I like the way it ended up. Actually, it reminds me a lot of the final boss in Truxton (is this just me?).
And for those who don't like it - if you can make something better, please do (and be sure to post pics!). FYI, the "crude tool" I use most of the time is a Dremel. Hot knives are really messy, and I value my lungs too much to use them. Considering I don't have access to a machine shop, I think it's a pretty good job.
This is the last supergun I'm going to be making for quite a while. They're very time-consuming, and I don't have nearly enough free time to do it any more. Plus, it's a lot more difficult to get parts here than where I used to live, which adds up to a lot more headaches. Maybe in the summer I'll have time to crank out a couple more.
As a couple of people have mentioned, superguns are dead simple in concept. They're not hard to make - I'm not an electronics wizard by any means! I doubt you could make one for $20, unless most of the parts were free from a junk pile somewhere. But for not too much more than that, you could make something that looks like a bunch of wires and plays PCBs pretty well.
However, actually putting everything together and making it into something that's presentable and sturdy is another matter - that's what takes most of the work. In this case, being good with power tools is more important than having a lot of electronics knowledge.
Chibi, I got the disk case at "Fisher Hawaii", a local office suppy dealer. It seems to be a standard model, so you can probably find them at other business supply shops if you search around a little. I forgot what company makes it, though (threw out the packaging).
Cigs, that flyer is from last year's TGS - it's for some Japanese "Idol Worship" game (can't remember if it for PS2 or if it's one of those cellphone games). I packed a bunch of game ads in with the system.

It's true, most of my components are scavenged... But I think its pretty easy to find an enclosure of some sort, wires, and even a computer powersupply for nothing. Check out the bins behind a used computer shop and you can usually find an old AT case that could supply the power, enclosure, and even some of the wiring. And unless you want like authentic arcade controls you can tear apart your old joypads/sticks and make yer own! Like Matt mentioned, if you want something reliable, safe, and good-looking, you probably want to have someone like Matt make it. But it can be fun seeing how creative/innovative you can get on your own. I really want to make one in tinted lucite, or inside my apple RGB monitor casing. For DIY people it can be fun but most people just ain't got the time.
P.S. Matt, do you still make those GC VGA cables?
Yeah, I've seen those. I'm not big on that. It's like an arcade cabinet without the coolness of the cabinet. Not much a fan of arcade controls period. I get arthritis just thinking about it.Quote:

I think if/when I do start making them again, I'll probably just built them beforehand and sell them once they're complete. It's less hassle when you don't need to work around somebody else's schedule. I've had to turn down a lot of people in the last few months :(
The cool thing about superguns is that you really can make them to look like whatever you want. The possibilities are endless! If you do a Google search, you can find some pretty neat pictures of stuff people have created.
BTW, I've got a (very out of date) webpage up at http://www.aloha.net/~the_matt with some pics of other superguns I've made, including my own (which uses a similar disk box).

No its basically a device that lets you play arcade games on your TV. Its like an arcade console.
