No Halo 2 in 2003

It's not as simple to carry over man (GV) - The whole way the game is presented is changed (ala the graphics, models and whatever else) and PLUS Yuji Naka himself said (in an interview) that you can't just add online simultanious play in as an after thought which is basically what would happen should they have just jumped in some enhanced TCP/IP modules into the first.

Perhaps. I can't give a conclusion BESIDES saying it's not the servers for a good number of reasons.

Netcode for it's style of game is 100% client side - in fact XBL work (rather disappointingly) as a p2p network so in fact - Server cost is very VERY minimal (pisses me off that fees are required to use a p2p network, but I can assure that at 50 bucks a head the XBL service is immencely profitable). Given MS's typical way of doing things the game will be made for the P2P servers, not the servers being made for the game.

So I maintain my original point but yes - the online aspect may very well be a stumbling block for them. It may be something completely diffrent, but we don't know that and I suspect we will never know for sure - all i know is that it's not servers and it's not very very important.

EB's site is currently listing october 15th, 2004 as the release date. That is every flavour of suck known to man.

Next year is one thing, more than a year and a half away is another altogether. I hope to heck MS has something using the Halo engine online (Halo 1?) this christmas, or I'll be really disappointed.

What the heck are they thinking? I'm sure they could get teh game up to snuff by this christmas if they threw enough money at its development. Holding on for that "extra quality" may hurt them more than it's worth. Me, I'd be happy with Halo 1 all over again with netplay, some new multiplayer levels, and "Halo 2" on the box.

There was another game in the works by Bungie using the Halo engine but it was scrapped due to sucking major ass. The team that was working on it was immediately put to work on a new game, which I think also uses the Halo engine. If Bungie had any sense, they would put everyone in the Halo 2 group because xbox doesn't have much in the future besides Fable, which will now be coming out before Halo 2.

Yeah, I was hoping Brute Force would be interesting, but if it's only 4 players and not online, I'll pass. There were rumours of a Halo 1.5, or Halo online a short while back. I'm praying E3 brings one of those.

16 man Halo is amazing, and while it wouldn't be as cool online as having everyone there in the same room, being able to do it whenever you want would be one of the best things ever. (And yes, I know there are other games that offer this, but it's just not the same, dammit!)

Well, Ninja Gaiden, Spike Out Online, Rallisport 2 and Project Gotham 2 all look decent, but not like system sellers. But I'm betting MS has something huge up their sleeves for E3. I mean, they couldn't just be going into christmas 2003 with what they've announced...could they!?

Halo 1.5 was a total rumor and Bungie had never intended it, but I agree that they certainly should because Halo really suffers, imo, from not being online. The single player is weak and playing splitscreen is just annoying to me.

Most xbox first party games have been pure 'meh' so even if MS have a few surprises, I don't think they'll be enough. What they need is some serious 3rd party support, but I don't see any company throwing them that support when PS2 is such a money making machine.

Add True Fantasy Online to that upcoming list, but I don't think it'll be a big system seller either.
