Ummm...Shining Force IV?
Yay! I think I wasted more time with this than with the game itself.Quote:

If you're going to have a template for the "perfect" RPG story, then I don't see how it can be anything other than Xenogears.Quote:

That is all.
Dang... this is a tough list to compile.
My dream RPG is...
Open Ended
No 'Final Fantasy'-esque, go through area A, move to cave B, emerge in area C, enter town D, solve quest E, move to area F progressions here. The story needs to progress at a players speed, with some limits provided. The player should not need to level up to explore most of the world but the story will not progress unless they do certain things only stronger characters can.
Party Oriented
RPGs are always more fun when you can add the badass people you meet to your party... the epic stories should necessitate a cast of colorful characters directly invovled. The characters should be a choice rather than forced though - the player should be able to pick and choose who they want to join up with and then convince them they should join with him. Some will be easier, some will be harder to add to the party. The player must also be mindful of party chemistry.
Interactive
Every object should be interactive. Even the worthless ones. I want to be able to carry water around in a bowl... even if it's worthless. I want to be able to take scissors and reduce that "scroll" into "confetti". I want to be able to pull the chair back and sit. I want to be able to take the broom and sweep underneath a desk for change. I want to be able to tend my garden (and watch it grow!).
Smart as hell
AI must be masterfully programmed. Start off with people having their own time progressions... they do their own lives and get on with it. But add to that, stuff like, going to church on Sundays, celebrating the children's birthday once a year, going shopping when there's no eggs in the fridge, taking a bathroom break every 3 hours... basically script in as much as you can. Next they should react realistically... no more magically knowing you're good or evil or whether you killed a guard 7 years ago in a dark back alley.
Damn... too much stuff... I can think of at least a half dozen more criteria... no more time to write them though... so I guess these are my main requirements.
Persona: Innocent Sin in english. :(
Pokemon on GCN... with AMAZING battle animations... mmm... bliss...
the promised follow-up to shadowrun (snes) would be my dream-RPG.
Remake of Skies of Arcadia + Skies of Arcadia 2. A remake of FF8 would be lovely too.
Dear god, tracer has a 300 page thesis on what the ultimate soul consuming game would be. I hope to god he doesn't read this thread. It could get scary.
Dark Cloud 2 comes pretty darn close. I think I've lost my taste for 'non-action' rpgs though. Those sort of 'choose your attack from a menu and wait for everyone to have their turn' sort of fights bore me now, for the most part.
