What's the name of this NES game...?

When I was little I remember going to my cousin's house and playing some little NES game where you traveled up a pyramid (I THINK it was a pyramid) and collected gold or something. After finding all of the gold...the exit to the level would appear and you could leave it. And then go onto the next gold collecting level. Somewhat similar to pacman perhaps (with maybe things chasing you?)?

My memory is shoddy...so I probably have it all wrong. I just remember collecting tons of little gold blocks....hell, it coulda been collecting penises for all I know. I believe it was gold....

Could someone possibly look into my vague description and give me a title to this game? I just remember enjoying it a TON...

Naw, it wasn't Qbert, I remember playing the on Coleco :) It was for sure a human that you played as...well...at least I am pretty sure. And the pyramid (or maybe it wasn't even a pyramid?) was definitely closed in.

some form of lode runner? I know you run around rooms collecting gold. Somewhat like puzzles, digging through blocks is involved. . .enemies with cheap AI follow you about. yeah.

Lode Runner...it could be but I don't think so....I just looked at some of the screens and remember it looking different. Or maybe it's just been so long that I have myself confused.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't Coleco. Here's something else I remember. I guess it wasn't in a pyramid (it still might have been)....but the gold blocks were kinda bundled pyramid-esque....

I really don't think it was Lode Runner though...

Nick, I think there were ladders involved. It wasn't Guantlet like at all. It was run-to-the-side type stuff. I just played Lode Runner on an emu...it was definitely not that.

Thanks for all the links! I also remember the gold making a neat ringing noise when you got it...haha :) I am forgetting so much...I should just download every NES rom...

I am not so sure any of those links were the game I am looking for though....

And it's for sure not Lode Runner. I think...

I can assure you the castle was quite excellent. I have the MSX version and jumping is SOOOO slow, and it makes this terrible *WEEEEUUUUU* noise for the duration of the jump. The US NES version is actually pretty fun, I don't remember if it was renamed for the US or not.

Okie , dokie here goes my wild guess . could it have been Milon's Secret Castle - I remember the doors would appear out of nowhere , but dont remember the "walls" or castle closing in on you...but it wasnt a pyramid obviously ...and i'm sure you collected gold coins in that game as well.. ahh what the hell do I know ... <tells himself to STFU :o >

The game you are describing really sounds like Mountain King, although it wasn't released on the NES.

Are you sure it was the NES? Mountain King was released on the Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 8 bit computers, Colecovision, Commodore 64, and Intellivision.

That's pretty obscure. I may have seen that game once before.

I doubt that's it, since it's hard to confuse the NES with any of those systems, but here's hoping.

Mountain King is a fun game.

It also happens to be one of the first (the other that I can think of being Haunted House) games I ever played that features a simulated pseudo-lighting effect. You have a flashlight, which you must shine in certain areas in order to see hidden treasures. Sure, it's not a lighting effect as we know it today, but it's the same idea and was a captivating gameplay mechanic in it's day.

CBS Electronics made some good games in those days.
