Basic--> Why are you using the nickname your using?

I'll Start, Unfortunetly, I started here as 'Sic' then my ex-girlfriend began to say i should change it to 'Chemist' because I a rawk at Chem, and I have crazy spiked hair (totally defying gravity), she said I looked like one of those mad scientists..So i changed it, i would rather be 'Sic' now that we broke up, I am 'Sic' at Neomega, but you all know me here as 'Chemist' so i guess i will have to leave it:(. Don't want to loose anyone who knows me (all two of you are important to me :))

Well, First 2 letters come from my name, plus considering my love for all things dark, it was between Darkness and Despair, and later one won :p

I started using the name back in the day of playing Diablo on BattleNet, and used it ever since.

Well, I'm "Nick" pretty much everywhere, but that was, of course, unavailable on AIM. I sat there entering names and just when everything remotely good seemed taken, I scored a hit with "BacksliddnPaladn," which I later found translates to little more than a jumble of letters to many people.

The name comes from my GameGO days. GG was the first - and besides TNL, the only - message board I took an active role in. When I signed up, there was an "Occupation" field to fill in. I see myself as a modern-day paladin of sorts - a person who fights for truth and justice, even when it isn't easy or seems to make more sense not to. I hold some stances on personal responsibility and honesty that many people think are unrealistic or too inflexible.

Well, since I got full-time Internet service installed on 9/9/99 (look at the date and guess how I surfed ^_^), I have had some periods when I wasn't fully honest (downloading an old PC game), pure of heart ("That can't really be a snuff film, can it?"), or utilizing my time effectively ("Read the news? Maybe after I read a couple more Seanbaby articles."). Pretty normal stuff, I know.

In Christianity, when a person falters in his faith, he is said to be "backslidden." He is not where he should be, he has slidden back a few steps in his walk with God. I adopted the term and entered "Backslidden paladin" as my occupation.

So there you go.

I like foxes. But, in my history of creating usernames, I am never able to get the cool fox names like ShadowFox, SilverFox, etc. However, be it XBL or B.Net, MSN or whatever, FuryFox is never taken, and it has the aliteration going for it.

The only problem is that I'm always being asked if I'm a chick, because everyone reads it "furry-fox" which sounds decidely less intimidating (especially on XBL, grr...)

My real last name is Rambo, and someone on my soccer team started calling me Firstblood. I thought it was cool, so I stuck with it

"sleeveboy" is a funny nickname a friend came up with.

My last name is Manch, which is close to "manche", which is French for "sleeve".

I use this nick just about everywhere now. On the Working Designs messageboard (and several other smaller boards that probably no longer exist) I was known as "SchadNFreude", but I switched to "sleeveboy" once I started posting at Shmups.

I like Shinobi. As the launch of Dreamcast was nearby, I wanted a "128" bit version of Shinobi. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. That and because I'm not creative enough to think of something else. :noob:

I pretty much only use that SN for anything and everything on the 'net. AIM, Xbox Live, email, chat rooms, you name it.

I also use Shinobi128 to distinquish myself from all of the other people who use "shinobi," shinobi420," or "shinobi69" on the internet. If you see the Shinobi128 screen name on the 'net or playing a game, more than likely it is me. :link:

Well, since my real name is pretty much unpronounceable in plain English, I decided to just use the Japanese version of my first name. Been using it since the beginning of the GG boards.

Several reasons:

It's a typical theme of industrial music, which I love (it's a song title).

My first name starts with B.

It's descriptive of my personal non-religious belief that all life on earth has been engineered by "someone" for a specific reason, and didn't happen by chance.

It's descriptive of H.R. Giger's artwork directly - which I am a fan of - and indirectly, of art in general (reinterpretation of life by artificial means).

I am the master of Clash.

My original one (Jay) was my now ex-girlfriend's nickname for me. This is one is just my first name, smell the innovation.

Mine is the computer chick from the anime "X."
She's in love with her computer, and eventually he kills her.

It fits.

Prince Planet was probably my earliest exposure (1970 or so)to anything that I understood to be Japanese. That, and the cartoon was ultra-freaky.

You know, I spent the better part of an afternoon at work trying to do just that, without any success. I'm largely ignorant modifying pictures for internet use. If anyone has some tips, I'll give it another go.

Well, a few years ago, I was thinking of that episode of The Simpsons where Homer becomes friends with Flanders. Flanders gives Homer a Nacho Hat at a football game and I had that in my mind for a while for some reason. I signed up for Yahoo Messenger a few days later and decided to make nacho_hat42 my name, instead of my usual UnknownBlade(which is really pretty lame sounding, looking back on it. Hence why I don't use it anymore.) I used UnknownBlade on the GameGo! board and for a while here. Eventually, I just decided to change to NachoHat and that's that.

It was a nickname that a friend of mine came up with back when I started playing Diablo in 1996. The lord part came from numerous rpgs and books we read, and the Mr.W part came from the fact that most teachers in school call you MR.______, your last name. So he combined the two and that's all she wrote. I either go by this or my real name, Sayewonn, when registering on message boards.

The Cynical Sphere is the name of a song, and other than my obvious cynicism there's no real significance to the name.

Many years ago (must be about 7 by now), I was really into Dragon Ball and so it was a no-brainer. More recently, I've thought about changing it a few times, but since most people online know me by the name, I just kinda stuck by it.

Thats the thing, people know you by your name, and thats it..Is it right to change your name and risk loosing then people you know just because you dislike a screen name?

I don't really care either way personally, it's just an Internet nickname, and it's not like I all of a sudden hate Dragon Ball now that it's popular in the U.S..

Well, in high school I was in this art course. We always had to be in groups, and I became close friends with everyone in there. Whenever an animation assignment needed extra hours or whenever we were behind on PhotoShoping stuff, whoever put in the extra effort got labeled 'hero' for the day.

When I finally bought a PC, and got online, it was the only name I could think of that meant something to me. Besides, It's better than being named 'DelitaGOLD999' or something.

I got tired of JackSkellington after GG! died, so I switched when coming to TNL. I like Halloween a lot, that's the reason for both names.

Well lets see. I've used the bbobb nick since back in 1993 (I think that was the year... maybe 92... hmmmm not sure anymore) when I ran a local BBS (which was called Marmosets In Cambodia BTW... don't ask... really long story). I don't even remember why I picked the name... I think my buddies that I set up the BBS with were pressuring me to come up with a nick so we could get everything up and running and for some reason bbobb came to mind... maybe something to do with BBS. But whatever... since then I've just used that nick throughout the online world.

Once, about 3 years ago, my girlfriend asked me to take a drive down to the store to pick up some soda. It was a nice day, so I decided to walk. My name is Jesse. When Rob Snider was on SNL and did the nickname thing. My father, friends and I were imitating him and Jester eventually came up. It just stuck from there and ever since I've been called Jester.

Way back in 1994 my teacher in a worthless class called "Freshman Reading and Study Skills" decided, despite the fact that there are no d's, e's or r's in my last name, that you pronounced the last name 'Colianna' as 'Calliander'. KO-LEE-AH-NAH versus KA-LEE-AN-DER. I dunno, I guess they're kind of similar.

My other nickname is MC(squared), decided upon a few days ago utilizing advice from Stone. Were I a rap star, that would be my name, because MC are my initials and I'd be an MC. MC MC, so MC(squared).

Mine doesn't really have a great story behind it. Some odd years ago I found that the first two letters of my first name, my middle initial, and first two letters of my last name spelled Gecco. It's your typical self-appointed nickname. This was just before the Geico commercials and for a while it was cool but anytime I hear that joke I want to beat someone with a lead pipe.

IronPlant was a nickname for a charcter in a story I was writing. It was set in the future and electronics had become plant like. The character was a boy who in his youth had been fused with the stuff. this was like 6th or 7th grade

Well, imagine a chinese guy with downs syndrome trying to say "Andrew". I used this nick for a great deal of time, and I thought it would just be easier to keep it here. Currently, and for about a year or so, my usual nick is "Cracker" for some reason. I have absolutely no idea where that came from though.

This is a random badass name I came up with when I started playing Quake or some shit. I've outgrown it and I think its kinda dumb, but I didnt when I signed up for GG! in 2001... so Im still using it today. The one thing is that I prefer the capitalization I have now... "cigsthecat" comes from Cigarettes the Cat, a Spumco character of Weekend Pussy Hunt fame. I shortened it to avoid the obvious hell of typing "cigarettesthecat" in every time, and it just works better overall this way. I always thought that was a great fucking name for a cat character.

Because Metroid Prime is an awesome game.

My name partially comes from Street Fighter. However, it is an actual nickname given to me because I did something stupid.

Once at my old dojo, I was bragging about how good my footwork was. I was also known to be a huge SF fan (this was in the days of Alpha 1).

I tripped, fell, and sprained my ankle while demonstrating a footwork technique.

Everyone laughed at me and asked me if that was my "zero-dash" :(

hence, the humiliating nickname that is my alias since the GG! days...
