VF4 Evo: bought it, love it

I've been playing all night.

It still sports some ugly textures, but that's about the worst thing I can say. Jaggies are there, but nearly non existant. For instance you still will see the paper shard snow, but it's much less. Shimmering is practically gone as well. Water, Armor, Dural all look great. Because they cleaned up the jaggies and shimmering so much, the background stages really show off. If not for the poor textures, I'd put the game up there with DOA3. As it is, it's just under it. The character models looked cleaned up, more detail there. I may be wrong, but the characters look bigger. The lighting is really well done, it adds alot to the detail of the characters. Lighting is used often, and it makes a big difference in the games beauty. The games really a looker. I'm sitting here playing a match between Brad and Jacky, and it just looks smooth, clean and detailed. A MAJOR step up over VF4.

Maybe it's that I'm so taken with the graphics, but the game just feels better then before. I enjoy playing it much more. I can't say if it's faster or slower paced, but it feels smoother to me.

Brad is awesome. I thought Goh would be my character of choice, but he is to advanced for me. Goh's like a grappling Akira. Brad is a character that is easy enough for me to get into right now, and I'm loving every minute of it. He's got crazy bobbing and weaving moves, which lookd and sound cool as well as help you get into the flow of your game (I'd imagine they would throw a live opponent off). He doesn't seem like a 100% Muay Thai, hell I'm no expert. But, he's got a lot of boxing in there as well. He does have a Muay Thai clinch where you can work on the opponent in a variety of ways. An extremely cool character.

Goh, to hard for me right now. Some brutal moves that imnvlve stomps and bone breaks.

Sound effects are the same, ultra fruity voices glaroe (except for Goh, he sounds like a badass).

Quest mode has taken the place of Kumite. You unlock items and gain points to shop with. It's a little hard to get around because of the Japanese, but I haven't had to consult a faq yet.

All said, money very well spent. I am very pleased with this.

Sounds good, think I should get it even though I already have VF4? Meaning; big enough differences that I should spend another 50?

I honestly don't know if you should get it.

On one hand, it's at best a semi sequel. While the game offers two new great characters, much improved visuals, and cooler stuff to unlock....it's still VF4.

On the other hand, it's what VF4 for the PS2 should have been. Really polished, and with a smoother overall feeling in look and play.

For me, the game was definitely worth it. It may not be for you.

I think I'll get it after some price drops, or if somehow we hit an era in gaming where nothing good comes out for a few months. But yeah I wouldn't go out of my way to get something that's only a semi-sequel.

Hopefully EB will have some sort of a deal like they did with GTA3/VC to get a major discount off the cost, although I doubt they will... I'd like to pick this up if/when it comes out here.

I unlocked he VF1 model for Brad. Super cool is the best way to describe it. The model actually looks a bit mroe detailed then what I remember, but that could just be my memory playing tricks on me. Anyhow, it's kick ass.

Sega needs to bring this over, dammit.

Here's hoping Sega brings it over reasonably soon... I'd count on it since every VF game has seen the States. Good riddance to the jaggies and shimmering.

EB had a deal? They didn't around here anyway... They offered me a whole $7 for GTA3, even though they were still charging $44.99 for a used copy. Oh well.

Yeah, it was for the GTA:VC pre-order... if you traded in GTA3 you got 3/4ths of the sticker price taken off. I paid a whole $18 for my copy of Vice City. GTA3 trade-in took $70 off.

(I'm in Canada, hence why the game cost $88. :p )

VF4 Evo is almost certainly coming to the US since they're currently working on translating it and I don't think they would put the effort into putting it in English just to release it in Europe. Unless MS buys this up like they did with Shenmue 2 or something.

I believe it was offically announced for US release, just no release date as yet.

Heh, not surprising. I think xbox games have been outselling it. It's doing dismally. Though probably their fault for releasing at the same time as FFX-2.

Bastards at EB... I guess because I got it the day of without a pre-order, they give my $7 instead. Fuck them.

Sega should have had this game ready for the US NOW. Their US schedule for the first half of this year is blah, unfortunately I can see why cuts are being made to the company's labor force. *-neo

Hey, it takes a long time for illegal immagrants working at $1 a week to translate something from Japanese to English, especially when they don't understand either language.

... I don't know why I said that. Nevermind. I have to agree though that there's nothing coming out from Sega in the near, or even relatively remote, future that I will actually buy. But if I can get the import of VF:EVO cheap I'll buy it. :)

i think they probably took time to survey demand before deciding to bring it out here, hence the gap.

it's tempting to see if i can get someone in japan to investigate teh cheapness, but i'd rather have the US version.
