Finally, My New PC is built :p

I needed to replace my old PC for a long time, and last fall I started looking for replacement. It was a choice of building it myself and saving some money in process, or go and buy either pre-built one in the store, or let them build one for me.

I personally wanted to build one, but I needed some help since I'm not very experienced yet. Recently my friend, offered to help me put my new pc together, so I started picking up all the parts I would wanna have in it.

I ended up getting:

Athlon 2700+ Cpu
Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard
512 MB of Ram - 2 256Mb Corsair XMS memory
80 Gig WD hardrive with 8mb cashe
Radeon 9700 Pro video card
52x24x54 Lite-on CRDW drive
Nice Alluminum case, 3 case fans and 1 CPU fan
MS IntelExplorer 3.0 mouse and MS Inteli keyboard

Whole thing cost me about $1100 with shipping. Not bad :)

We spent whole evening last night putting it all together, and now its running great. The only thing that bugs me, is its quite noisy, since fans are running in high speed mode(since we didnt set up a heat sensor on CPU to be able to run it in Auto speed :().

My friend didnt set up the Bios right, so Windows was showing my cup as Athlon 1500+, which freaked me out at first, but then today, I went into Bios setup and fixed it.

We loaded Windows XP, and its been running great and quite fast. This pc is quite an improvement over my old Celeron 400mhz machine.

I loaded few games just to test my new video card, and preformance is excellent. Unreal 2 and NOLF 2 run great, and so far I havent experienced any problems.

But for some reason Max Payne doesnt want to work. I wonder if its incompatible with Win XP, like readme say? Any one knows about this? I really wanted to try MP on PC, especially with all the mods for it, which I got just for this reason.

No DVD drive?

Is there a patch for Max Payne? I dont have the PC rev, but if the readme says it doesnt work wit hXP, there should be a patch available.

Make sure you update drivers, and make sure XP is patched up and all that... although going to Windowsupdate will tell Microsoft all the software you have on your box (sigh...).

excelent choices, i must say. you wont need to replace that video card for awhile. and that mouse is the best mouse ive ever had. smooooooooth.

Yeah, I'm going to check for patch on Monday, at work.

I didnt picked up dvd drive, since the wife wasnt happy with the idea, since I already have 2 standalone ones, plus PS2 and Xbox :p I think I will get one sometime in the future anyway, probably will get DVD burner, when they become cheaper.

Yeah, I'm going to run all the service packs and stuff.

I also probably will end up running a double boot system, with Win 200 Pro as second boot. We'll see.

is that an Nforce mobo? with an athlon you could have gotten away with 2 256 sticks of ram and run dual channel. btw what speed is that ram 21 or 2700?

Thats exactly what I'm doing :) I run two 256mb dimms in dual channel, on 333mhz speed. Should run perfectly with CPU, Motherboard fsb and memory.

nice work....and you beat me to it. I was hoping i could build mine today, but i couldn't choose a HD, i will end up with the same as you. The 120gig sold out fast, a little to fast actually :( anyway.. Nice work! :D

I can't wait to get my new PC...it's long overdue. I prolly will get a Dell. Though if I do that...I may wait a few more months till I get it (or at least until I get back from E3)

Now you just gotta get more games for that bad boy.

You should pickup UT2k3 and crank all the settings up.
