Just got myself a 2000 Duron on an Abit KD7 board, with some DDR RAM (since all my old RAM is SD) for $255. For whatever reason my finger kept bleeding while putting it together, I can only guess I was getting it cut but I never actually felt any cuts. I secretly suspect my skin decided to just tear itself apart for fun, but I have no proof.
In any case, it's nice having everything run beautifully again. The motherboard has built-in sound with jacks for front, rear, and a center speaker. I highly doubt it's true 5.1 but I haven't looked into it or even tested it yet. I wonder if Morrowind gives me a better framerate yet... eh, not likely.
I havent tested my sound card 5.1 setup either, since I still using my 2 speakers from my older pc. Sometimes in the future, I will get nice speaker set though.
Its been a week and my PC is running beautifully. We almost got used to its noise, so it doesnt noticible as in the beginning.
DJ been playing alot of Max Payne mods, and everything is running very smoothly.
Also we finally got cable modem, so broadband speed it cool :p
Yay, cable rules. :)
My new PC has 2 fans and runs quieter than my old. (All though both are relatively quiet.)
Ahh, tomarrow I put in a second HD, and tonight, I play Zelda. Life is good.
I got it for 315 after shipping back in January. I paid extra for some crappy memory heat sinks (those blocks on the videocard), thinking it was an actual fan/heatsink upgrade. It can be had for about 280 off of pricewatch.com, but its probably going to drop soon because ATI is going to release the 9800 PRO. Its only got TV output on it, but there is an all-in-wonder version that has input as well as a TV tuner.Quote:

Surround sound is freaking awesome, btw. I recently got an Audigy2 and some Creative Labs 6.1 speakers; Battlefield 1942 never sounded so good. :)

Its because you can boot from the CD-ROM drive with pretty much any BIOS nowadays. Go into your BIOS and change your boot order... put the CD-ROM drive above the hard drive... then turn off your box, put the CD-ROM into your drive, and boot, it will boot fine.
No, it won't, I've tried it.
My PC is totally fucked up, I've tried everything possible. 12 hours now, and nothing works. When I put in a boot disk from an old Windows, it tells me boot disk failure, remove disk. When I try booting from the cd (I KNOW it works, because I get a "boot from cd" option on this computer with that same cd) it says "No Emulation."
When I put in a second harddrive with WinXP over WinME (Not a clean install) and make the old HD with the OS on it the master and the new one the slave, I get a "No ntdlr" error. This is total fucking bullshit. Who wants to come to my house and fix this? And tons of thanks to Lhaddat for getting me this far.
