Well, as I said it would be cheaper to make it Drummania only by using a Topway drum controller PCB instead of an Alesis DM5, but I want mine to be a regular drum kit as well. I've decided that since I bought DM 2nd mix, I will also buy a Topway and go through the process of wiring it up to my kit (I belive 2nd mix cannot use a MIDI to USB adaper like 3rd can...). I'll put up those instructions after I figure it out for anybody who wants the less expensive DM only route.
In other news, I've mounted the electronics nicely in the middle of the kit and done some reinforcing by adding the other vertical bar and bolting key pieces together.
Playtesting is done. I'm more than happy with the performance. Expect a printable PDF of the instructions this weekend.
In other news, I have a great idea for how to turn a real guitar into a guitar freaks guitar. I have an old P.o.S. beginner guitar at my house that I will sacrifice for the experiment. :) Basically what I will do is wire all 6 guitar strings to the ground of a Playstation joypad PCB. I will wire three of the metal frets on the guitar neck up to the three note buttons on the PCB. Then I'll wire a metal pick up to the pick button.
Cheebs I've been waiting forsomeone to try that with a real guitar for a while, pictures and results will be needed posthaste. :)
Well....the guitar conversion works! I'm able to pass songs and the only time I miss something is due to my own error.
However, it's not done yet. Right now I have to hit a specific string and a specific fret to hit the right note. I want to make it so you can hit any string on a specific fret to hit the note. The problem is that when you fret a string it hits the fret in front of and behind it. It thinks you're atcually hitting two buttons when you only want to hit one. To get around this I strategically placed electrical tape on the frets to block some out. This results in needing to hit specific strings...
If I order some "and" gate logic circuits (only like $0.60 each) then I can eliminate that problem. I also need to order a mercury switch for the wail function.
However, as I said it all does work right now. Up and Down are wired to the pickup selector. Start and Select are on the volume knob (hit 10 volume for start and dial to 0 for select). X and Circle are on one tone knob and left and right are on the other tone knob (same deal with cranking to both extremes to trigger one or the other).
Anyway, the mod is fairly simple and I'll post it when my gates and mercury switch arrive.
hah, that's very awesome. My brother has an incredibly beat up Jackson I'd have fun messing around with if I ever wanted to do this or play GF.
If any of you IIDX players want an ASC but not looking to spend a gazillion dollars this guy is making them, and they look pretty damn good, and not very expensive.
http://www.bemanistyle.com/forum/vie...er=asc&start=0
He says hes making singles, doubles and "minis" which I think are the size of reg. Konami controllers with arcade buttons.
$300 for a double ASC doesn't look too bad at all.
Heres pictures for you lazy bastards.

Christ almighty. How high and far away is that turntable? Awful.
Yeah, its a prototype.
He's gonna lower the turntable, put the start and select buttons on, and look for smoke colored buttons and maybe some other stuff.
The buttons light too.
Well, this is retarded... I made some progress on my drum building instructions PDF and tried to attach it to this post. The PDF is 700 kb or so. I get a message saying the board only accepts 19 kb PDFs. Why on earth would the board limit PDFs to such a small size when it allows you to attach jpgs close to 1 mb?
Cheebs, that stuff rocks. I am a bit uncertain of what the hell your doing with the gituar (as I am not fimiliar with the game), but it sounds pretty ingenious. Anyways if you want I am sure the guy that runs bemanistyle would host the PDF for you in his media section, or I can host it for you. Good job on the whole drum thing though, glad to see that it worked out for ya.
Also I have spent quite a bit more time with IIDX and can now beat up 5* 7Key songs. Yahoo.
OK, the beginnings of my drum instructions are up. See Sound Off (I figured regular drummers might want to read it for non-game reasons).
Cheebs... how is Pop'n music going? I have not heard you talk about it for a while, and I just wanted to get everyone psyched up for the Pop'n Navy (It is basically the VJ Army for Pop'n programmed by Remy). I am practicing up, I want to start out with some 100K scores right off the bat. --Unfortunatly-- it is looking like 5-line scores will be accepted for the Pop'n Navy :? As why I am unsure. I will feel like a whore just going through all the songs to get 5-line scores.
Remy's update:

Still love the game. :) I've just had much of my attention diverted to the whole Drummania/GF periferal construction thing.
Since I'm creating an entire website now (technical docs, Bemani, drawings, Neo Geo Shockbox inserts, fiction, humor, webcomics, my Transformers collection, music.... in other words no direction at all :) ) I figured one of the things I'd do for the site is create several Pop 'n Music ASC overlay graphics in PDF form and leave 'em up there for download. I'm sure I'll be ranting about Pop 'n Music soon enough once I get that going...
Cheebs, did you ever figure out how to make the buttons light up for Pop'n ASC? I am an electrical idiot, so I could not :/
Well, complete drum construction and connection instructions are up on my website.

Just click the Bemani link for the PDF. I might still go back and add any missing part numbers....but you can easily figure out how to build the thing from what's there.
This weekend I might add "extras" like attaching the PS1 mobile monitor or opperation without the midi module....
Anyway, up next is the Pop n' Music controler overlay PDFs. If I figure out the Pop'n light wiring, I'll put that up there too.
Bemanistyle.com has pictures and a songlist of the IIDX 11th location test.
Over 320 songs in this one, yeesh.
Doesn't mean shit if they don't fix the timing that is still screwed up from 9th Style.
Which...Quite honestly, I'm skeptical about at this point.
IIDXRED WHOA WHOA WHOA~
So I want to buy one of the new rereleased IIDX controllers, whats the best place to buy one?
Lik-Sang has them for the lowest price (69.90) but will I find shipping anywhere for less than $30, or should I expect that much?
So I've heard. And really, I don't think they'll ever be able to fix it without switching hardware. Apparently, the way DirectX handles sound has enough delay by itself to screw things up a bit.Quote:

They could do it if they, you know, applied actual effort to IIDX anymore. The entire concept in every single music game is to hit button Y when it hits point X. When you're forced to NOT do this, something is seriously wrong.
This is how it goes.
9th Style: On average, you're hitting keys halfway to the bottom of the screen.
10th Style: Hey, about 3/4ths down. THATS PROGRESS!
Red: Uhh...hey, maybe they might get closer.
Hopefully by the time the home ports get to 9, 10, 11 there will be no timing problems in PS2 land.
From a store in HK or Japan, $20-30 shipping, for something that big, is the best you can hope for. About the only other ways I could see you getting a (slightly) better deal is either knowing somebody in Japan who can order the controller off Konamistyle and send it over to you, or getting really really lucky on Ebay. Both are way unlikely.Quote:

All you need is a $2 Playstation joypad PCB and a couple of these chips from Digi-key (part number 296-8327-5-ND).
http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...?KeywordSearch
They are bi-lateral analog switch chips. I'll write this all up in the instruction PDF soon, but here's how you do it:
The chip is laid out like this:
1A ------Vcc
1B ------1C
2B ------4C
2A ------4A
2C ------4B
3C ------3B
GND ----3A
Hook the power supply up to the Vcc pin. It requires very low voltage. Use a multi-meter to read the wires coming into the controller from the PS. One of them should have a voltage. Use that to power the chip. GND is ground. Hook that pin to the ground.
The rest is very simple. There are 4 independant switches on the chip. One switch is needed for one button, so two chips should cover a whole drum kit. The two wires that are to be "connected" (in this case the ground side of a button and the hot side of a button) hook up to 1A and 1B (or 2A and 2B etc). 1C (or 2C etc) is the control pin. Whenever 1C sees a voltage, even if very faint, it closes the switch connecting 1A and 1B. When the voltage goes away, the connection goes away. Hitting one of my drum triggers produces a faint voltage. Hook the red wire from the peizo transducer inside of the trigger pad up to 1C (or 2C etc). Hook the black wire from the piezo transducer up to any ground point on the pad PCB. Hit the pad and presto! The switch closes.
I have wired this up for just one button on the control pad to test it out, and I can confirm that it works.
Anyway, full instructions to come. Keep your eye on the Bemani section of fluffypotato.com
Is that why Abyss Remix has such off timing on 7th NSC?Quote:

Another "note" about timing. It seems that the timing is better than 10th, but still "off".
I'm just now getting into Beatmania IIDX and I don't know where to begin. Lik-Sang has the controller for sale the cheapest, so I'll get it from there. What about the games? For a noob like me, where should I start? If it is possible, I would like to start with the first iteration of Beatmania IIDX, or are there differences? What sites out there are going to help me out? Gracias.
Uh, I don't even notice any off timing on it. Shitty sound quality, yeah, but the timing seems fine enough.Quote:

Get 5th, 6th, or 7th to start. They all have Beginner's Mode. 7th is my favorite of the three, and I'd suggest 6th over 5th.Quote:

Well if you have no experience with Beatmania then I would just say to start with 7th style as it has the largest selection of songs, as well as a good varity of difficulty with the beginners mode. If you do not want to start with 7th I would say to start with 5th, as that is much kinder to beginners (even thought 6th has beginners mode, 5th and 7th are much better to start with). Then when you are pretty compatant at Light 7 difficulty songs just start buying which ever IIDX you are finding cheapest, and/or on sale. Good luck.Quote:

<FrezerinJapan> dont really know
<Dipstick> chubs: mistranslation. that was 16-18% of people PASSING the song
<chubs> oh
<chubs> hahaha
<Sl1p> Hey wait
<Sl1p> Is the timing in Red fixed?
<Sl1p> Or is it still second early bullshit?
