Alright someone tell me how much it would run me to get set up with IIdx? One controller, 2 games, and have it be playable on my new tiny unmodded pstwo.
What do I need and where should I get it?
IIDX cost...
Games - $50~$100 depending on which style you want and how badly (plus where you find it). Do some store and ebay research and you'll find out the normal prices that they go for. 4th is the rarest so far.
Controller - ~$75+. Konami just recently put out a new batch of their controllers. Meanwhile, ambitious people are making homemade controllers at an increasing pace lately. Obviously, opinions regarding each and their prices vary; just keep in mind that the normal controller works fine.
PSTwo's can be modified to play imports without a chip, as long as you're willing to do the work. Other methods to play imports are available but cost more than 0.
Given the above choices, if you set $300 aside for a new Konami controller and a pair of games, you'll be fine.
I almost jumped and pre-ordered from NCX, then I jumped on play-asia to support Remy. Then I realised that I would probably get it quicker with NCX and almost cancled my order and went with them. I am glad I held out though.
If it makes you feel anybetter only the first 40% of play-asia orders shipped so not everyone is getting theirs.
Well, according to my tracking number I shoul have them by tomorrow (Before 12)...Sweet, great timing, as my classes finish for the day at 11AM...

Well, I've been playing a bit of IIDX 8th and its great. I sucks as I have not played ANY Bemani games for a month or two :sweat:. Its slowly comming back to me though ;) . The song list is great, I forgot how many great songs are on this mix whe I played it at my local arcade. There is also a TON of those pics to unlock. I only played arcade mode for an hour or two, then went of with my gf.
Tomorrow will be nice as I don't have to go to work till 1:30 so I can play all morning. :D

Slip: The "best" way is to hit the red button REALLY fast when the wish rollette comes up. I get much better results than just waiting and hitting at intervals. When it says ready-y-y-y I just start hitting red really really fast. I have gotten 12% after about 8 - 9 hours.
Anyways I am super impressed with IIDX 8th style.

Due to the annoying unlock system, my play time has been 10:1 in favor of 8th Style. That's some GOOD deluxe system dj simulation.
Yeah, same. I tend to play IIDX more because I'm unlocking stuff a lot faster. Still, I've been playing PNM a lot and it feels like I've gotten no where with the unlocks. Oh well...the music is great still :D
Still no IIDX or Popn' in my mailbox.... Hopefully today. We'll see.
I'm re-building my Pop n' controller n honor of the games' arrival. I wasn't happy with the construction of the box before.
IIDX comes tomorrow. I can't decide my first song... It'll probably be Lab.
They're both in! Pop n' 10 is still in the shrink wrap, but IIDX 8 is amazing. Damn, that's alot of songs. So far all of the new stuff to 8 has been great. I'm a happy guy right now. :)
And my pop n' controller is done. I made new side boards and a new top graphic. The plexiglass, buttons, top wood pannel, and electronics are all the same (ripped from the controller I built before). I wanted to stain the whole thing dark, but it was a disaster so I ended up painting it.

IIDX 8th, for all the bitching surrounding it, seems excellent so far.
Yeah, the expert song high-score thing is retarded, no doubt, but the individual song scores in this are more efficient, if anything. It's unfortunate that they removed the note breakdown, but I can't really hold it against them.
Some of the all-new songs are excellent, and I can't wait to unlock Random+.

But I have finished a few courses in 8th Style. As for unlocking stuff in PNM 10, its going to be a long, long road of unlocks...
I just picked up DDR Ultramix 2. I'm surprised there hasn't been more talk about this one. The song list is almost totally different than what the PS2 has seen in either the US or Japan so it is well worth the purchase. The Beatmania IIDX crossovers (and there's a ton of them) are pretty amazing. Starmine and it's a 9 footer? Don't mind if I do. :)
I picked it up and looked at the back of the box...it looks interesting, but I've never played DDR on the X Box...hows the interface???
The interface is odd... It's more like US Extreme than anything else, but it still has the groove radar. The biggest downside to the interface is that there's no "arcade" mode at all. If it were IIDX, it would be like it was stuck in "free" mode. I guess the ddr equivalent is being stuck in event mode. There's also no oni.
Hmmm..how is it on LIVE...is it even worth playing on it???
Is there a song list anywhere. I am too lazy to look it up today.
Also 8th Style is by far my favorite collection of songs of any IIDX. Yay for Konami!
Ok, I just got 100% on Pop'n 10. Took about 32 hours. At about the 20 hour point I started going to arcade mode playing the first song (so to not get bored) and then canceling out of the second. This moved me from 48% to 97% (complete aside from seasonal unlocks) in 10 hours. The last 10 songs you unlock are the real greats. Jack, Elegy, Contemporary Nation, K-Classics (Castlevaina mix). Then when you hit 97% you can get all the EX versions of the songs in Free mode! Rawk, as I hate challenge mode.
None the less there are easily about 20 great songs in this, but DDR Megamix can suck my nuts. Too much speed variation.
IIDX 9th is a go. 3/25/05.
Good news. Now If only Konami would get on a new Drummania...
I decided that my Beatmania hand positioning is horribly innefficent, and I can progress no further until I change it. Using my orriginal positoning I could pass about a few 7-star songs, but that was my limit. To give you an idea of what I was doing, I used my right thumb to hit the three right-most white keys. It really contorted my hand...
Anyway, retraining myself sucks. I'm back to failing half of the 5-stars. But I really should have learned propper hand positoning from the get-go...
