I guess Konami decided that making IIDX games was worth it after all -- and they're making up for lost time in a hurry. Three months from now? Wow. That will put them at the same pace as the Pop'n CS games are at now.

Awesome, awesome. IIDX 8th is helping me break the whole brick wall I was at.Quote:
IIDX 9th is a go. 3/25/05.
Considering how Konami would have to go out of their way to make timing issues present in a PS2 port of 9th, I completely expect to love this style.

I've finally started making progress in this again. IIDX 7th has really really reinvorgated me, and I actually like it more than 8th (outside of Attitude of course). I'd been at a roadblock for quite some time, but I can pass some 6 star songs, and a few 7 Key now.
I can see myself in the same boat as Cheebs though, especially when it comes to scratching and weird double notes. Many of my songs go all to pieces when you toss scratching into the mix, and fast, repeated double note patterns (A, for example) drive me batty. It'd suck to have to retrain my hands to a better position, but that may be what it comes down to.
hey. Total newbie here. I want to get into Beatmania. Which game do u recommend a newbie to get? PM me if u can. 7 or 8? Both I guess are widely available. Where's the cheapest place to get a IIDX controller? I have played the pop n games, and they are fun, what is the skill/difficulty level of the Beatmania games? Any sites have previews of the music?
IIDX, in 7key mode, is roughly similar to Pop'n on a whole.
I'd go for IIDX 8th. I like the songlist and interface a bit more than 7th, but it really comes down to opinion. They both have Beginner's mode, which is mostly what you'd probably need.
The only honest complaint about 8th is the fact that it doesn't save scores you get in Expert mode, for whatever reason.
Where's the cheapest place besides ebay for a keyboard?Quote:

Cheapest I've seen one go for, new, is 60, and that was through getting a hold of someone in Japan to buy it for them.
Can I use IIDX keyboard to play pop n music?

Thanks for the info. Anyone have any videos? Or previews of some of the songs? is 7th or 8th IIDX better?
Or you could use a Dual Shock to play both. :pQuote:

www.bemanistyle.com has some videos up, but you need to register and get 'tokens' through forum posting to see them. I could see about putting something up on my webspace, though.Quote:

Hey. I got my IIDX controller, and 8th style. Tought for beginners. Which is the best mix to get for newbies?
8th is as good as any for a beginner, but 5th-7th all have beginner modes as well. I started on 6th, but I don't think starting with 7th or 8th would have made any significant change in my progress.
If you're finding the game too difficult, try playing around with some of the modifiers (press start at the song select screen). The high speed modifiers make the notes scroll faster, which spaces them out so they're easier to read. Most IIDX players make liberal use of speed mods, and some still find hi-speed 4 to be too slow.
Other than that, I'd start at the top of the beginner song list and work my way down. When a good chunk of the songs become passable, it's on to light 7.
Eh 8th kinda has beginner mode, which you can play. But if you want to play light7 etc, you're thrown into like 4 1-3 stars, and a crap load of 4+.
High-Speed 4 is too slow for songs below 110 bpm in my opinion :(
Hi. How is 7th Style? One complaint is that it doesn't preview the songs when u are going thru them like DDR does. But otherwise, love the game. Can't wait to get good at EuroBeat Drivin'
7th Style is great, it has a lot of Akira Yamaoka (one of my favorite IIDX artists) songs in it. There's a good number of songs, and 7th has 'true' beginner mode, where it just reduces all the songs to one to three stars from the start, unlike 8th Style which sort of makes you do little training things first. I like it just as much as 8th Style, and more than 5th and 6th. It's easy to find, too, so it's often the cheapest on eBay and forum sales.
I was under the impression that you could just pick the "stage 3" thing and see all the songs.Quote:

But, yeah, to be honest, you can't go wrong with any of the styles.
Quick notes on each style:
3rd - Big songlist, three hispeeds, with Hi-3 being too fast for many and Hi-2 being too slow. Doubles scores are NOT saved seperately (eek), so scoring higher on a 14keys version of a song will overwrite the 7keys version score. Small handful of songs have bad timing. No letter grades for individual songs. No notification if you've passed a previous high score. No beginners mode, but it has the easiest Light7 songs.
4th - Small songlist, though it probably has the most 'exclusive' songs out of all of them. Same hi-speeds as 3rd. Now notifies you of a higher score. There's also a Survival mode.
5th - Decent songlist. Bigger than 4th's, also has a decent number of songs that haven't been seen elsewhere. Beginner Mode and Drill Mode are introduced, Survival returns. Hi3 has been drastically slowed down, for better or for worse. Still kinda too slow.
6th - Better songlist than 5th, I think, and it's larger. Individual song letter grades, now. Hi4 added. Prettier interface on a whole. Videos of good players are unlockable.
7th - Some consider it the best songlist, has a few more minor interface tweaks, and is damn fine overall. I'd say it's as good as 6th.
You really can't go wrong with 6th or 7th. Save 3rd-5th for later, though I'm guessing you were planning on that anyway.
Hey, thanks for the info. I will practice this weekend. Hope to pick up 7th soon.
Ok, after some time practicing, this game is hard. any tips? Even on 5 keys, this game is tough. Which mix has the most beginner songs?
Either 5th or 3rd. 3rd has no beginner mode but lots of 'easy' songs on light7 and even 7key (how much easier? Easier than some of the beginner songs in 6th). 5th has the easiest beginner mode songs, and it really isn't close.Quote:

5th has a good number of songs and has true beginner mode, but so do 6th, 7th and 8th. You'll be fine on any of those Styles. It's a real bitch starting out, trust me, I still remember well. Just keep practicing and allowing yourself to try things you'd consider harder. And right now, work on passing, not grading. Timing will come as you play, so don't worry about low scores/grades right now. It's wasted effort to kick yourself for A's on beginner songs.
And as a bemani thread side note, 9th Style preorders are opened up, including ones for all the... Five? different LE packs. I'm surprised they actually offered so many different packs and actual merchandise. Pop'n has traditionally had a lot more stuff available than IIDX.
If you want to get better I recommend staying away from 5 Key as it will just be a crutch. Just practice stuff you cannot play, when you want to have fun just play stuff you know you can pass. Don't even worry about score until you can pass 95% of the Light 7 songs.
And its going to sound like a broken record but you just need to keep playing...it will eventually click and youll start to pass harder songs...
Cool, i will do that. Practice. So how do u unlock songs in arcade mode?
Hey...did anyone pick up PNM 11?
I had noticed that I recived a email form Play Asia saying that mine has been shipped. I TOTALLY forgot that I had it pre ordered...
I got it. It rules. The end.
I ordered the killer7 sound track that was released on the 20th in the same order. Even though PNM11 was released on the 21st... they started shipping them on the 18th (here, 19th there).Quote:

All of the 10th Style songs? Awesome! Now I don't have to spend a ton of money buying another import game when 10th Style comes out. :) Looks like we're not going to have to worry about the difficulty in that case. This can't come out soon enough. The buttons on my turntable are really wearing out.
Edit: Doh! we are talking about the import game here, aren't we? I though that was for the US release. Never mind. :bang: Still cool news and still a game I'll buy. Any news on the US version?
They apear to have changed the interface to Purple. It also got pushed back to spring IIRC.Quote:
