Oh, crazied-up Gambol. So, what, was that a One More Extra Stage or something?
I've probably got a long shipping wait on this. Play-Asia economy bubble has taken for-fucking-ever in the past.Quote:
(Blah blah IIDX RED came out blah blah anyone who cares already has it blah blah pants.)
Same here.....my economy bubble from them have been 4 days then they have also been <gasp> 19 days to arrive.....so I am hoping I get lucky
Its funny that you mention that its been released...I checked my email this morning to see that an item from Play Asia has shipped...I was freaking out till I checked and it was my copy of RED. I totally forgot that I had it on pre order (I pre ordered it early march).
I got the super slow shipping as I was not in a rush to play...
I got tired of Play-Asia's 2 1/2 week economy bubble shipping so I ended up getting the fedex shipping. I can't wait to play Red Zone and AA at home.
I just got my confirmation email. Both IIDX Red and Drummania/Guitar Freaks V are on their way to me. :)
This is the reason I'm addicted to Beatmania. I call it "God Mode."Quote:

Lol. Yeah, I have no fucking idea how I actually play this game, because those notes sure as hell don't actually register in my mind. I just....do it somehow. Started happening to me when I hit the 5's and 6's.Quote:

Can anybody tell me what the last item in Customize changes?
I passed my first 7-key 5-star tonight (Attitude -- which also happens to be my favorite song on BMUS). Very fun. There's pretty much no way I could've done it without "God mode", as Cowutopia likes to call it. It's an interesting phenomenon. Your brain really just starts working on another level, skipping the part where you think over what you're doing, and just manipulating your hand directly. Sometimes I feel like an observer watching myself play, marvelling at how the hell I'm hitting all these notes. I'm sure it's an elementary concept to psychologists, but it's a new experience to me. And damnit, I love it.Quote:

Ha, Post# 1000 is mine!
I'd say that 8th is a better style than 9th. Low-res interface, yeah, but I prefer the songlist.
I can't speak from a difficulty standpoint, but I'm loving Red so far. Moreso than 9th or 10th. Maybe just start from it?
Do not miss 6th Style. I love that one.Quote:

Compass---9th is a ball-buster (difficulty-wise, at least the 7k and A). I would recommend 8th before 9th....
I thought I'd remembered reading that 9th had a drill mode, and was generally good for beginners. Maybe not. Perhaps I will just go straight to Red. I'm a little worried I'll get spoiled though, and not be as appreciative of earlier styles if I start with the latest.
Nah, gamefaqs can be great for quick answers. And there's some super-knowledgeable people mixed in there among the brats. Also, I didn't want this thread to turn into Teach Compass the Basics of IIDX Five Years After Everyone Else. I did have one question I'll ask here, though.Quote:

Was there a drop-off in interest in IIDX that revived after 7th Style or something?
Whoops, you are right about drill mode--I just have not used it lol
Nah, what happened was that after KCEJ put a lot of effort into 6th Style - movie clip mode, player movies, etc. - and having seen that translate roughly into a 0% increase of sales, they basically abandoned further development of the series at home. That's why 7th onward have been released by Konami Studios; the continuation of IIDX at home is basically left to the hands of their rookie programmers.Quote:

As far as what future purchases you should make, just make a priority to get whatever you can for as little money as possible. Each style has its pros and cons, and the most important thing for you to continue to have a positive IIDX experience is to play as much different stuff as possible. Don't worry about 9th+ being "too difficult" (I'm pretty sure you're aware of the series's difficulty by now), don't worry about pre-9th titles looking like crap (they don't, and you'll adapt fine). Just expand on what you have.
Yeah, what dog$ said....
Okay. Got it. Anything and everything is good. Just hang out and get stuff as I see it for good prices.
3rd Style might be a little too ancient in interface and all that good stuff, but the rest are all good.Quote:

I'll see if I can break down the big differences between BMUS and the other styles, so you know what you're getting into in terms of interface and options. Assuming BMUS is almost identical to 9th, at least.
Hi-Speed
3rd and 4th Styles have three hi-speed settings. HS1 and HS2 are managable, but HS3 is probably on par with Red's HS5. It is very, very fast. 5th has the same HS1 and HS2 as 3rd/4th, but HS3 is dramatically slowed down. I wouldn't be surprised if towel mode really kicked off here, due to some slow songs being unplayable for many players without a fast enough setting. 6th through 9th have the HS1-4 settings you see in BMUS. 10th adds the .5 interval speeds. 11th adds HS4.5 and HS5.
Score Notification
3rd Style does not notify you when you recieve a higher EX score, nor does it show you your letter grade (unless you're playing a course). 4th and 5th still do not show your letter grade, but they will show you your increase in EX score. 6th and on will tell you both.
Option Selection
3rd and 4th have you select your song modifiers outside of the song selection screen. This isn't a huge issue. 5th lets you select your hi-speed in song select, but everything else is done in the main menu. 6th and on is basically as you know it in BMUS.
Song Scores
3rd Style has one big problem: It considers Double a modifier rather than a mode, I suppose, and Double scores will save over 7key scores if they're higher. 8th, 9th, and 10th Styles caused some hubbub because the game simply does not save the breakdown of your score, but rather just the score itself. 11th brought things back to normal. Oh, and 8th retardedly does NOT save a song's high score if you get it in an expert course.
There are some little things... I don't think 3rd Style displays which songs you've cleared in the song select screen, for example. That's all I can think of.
Anyway, you can probably live with 3rd Style.
This is the main reason I made the comment about 3rd. I hate not knowing what I haven't cleared yet. Hate hate hate hate hate.Quote:

I disagree with this completely. I can not stand 95% of the music in 3rd, and all of the little interface goofs really add up after a while (although the high speeds going HS1-HS2-HS5 is actually a good thing for me, as I tend to play with very high scroll speeds).Quote:

However, a lot of the older charts are awkward in design (you are just hitting random samples in random places, instead of maitaining any sort of beat or rhythm), and there are several with stupid errors (like Soft Landing Over the Body, e-motion, Gambol, Overdoser, etc.). It also tends to be the cheapest IIDX game to find, as used copies tend to be found floating around the Internet in both Japan and the US for ~40 bucks (that's how much I spent, anyway -- actual results may vary).

As Dippy shows, it is a matter of personal pref. I happen to love most of the music on 3rd...
some standouts:
Celebrate
Calcutta
SOS
SOS the Tiger
Gambol (fucked up timing lol but I love the song)
Gradiusic Cyber
Salamander Beat Crush Mix
Hitch Hiker
Holic
Macho Gang
Patsenner
Right Now (what can I say, I like it)
and the almighty Schlagwerk
The difficulty is right for beginners too....let me put it this way--I used to hate 3rd too and now its one of my fave styes aside from the modern styles (8 and up)
My coopy of RED finally showed up yesterday. I have not played IIDX in AGES and it shows...man I suck...
What? No Love for I Was the One?Quote:

Any of you guys have experience with DJ Dao's Platinum edition arcade style controller? It looks incredible from the youtube video. And it's cheaper than Konami's to boot. Seems too good to be true. What am I missing.

He's trying to sell on bemanistyle right now, and unsuccessfully. His English is poor and he doesn't exactly have any of the controllers made yet beyond the first handful he sold.
