The Bemani thread. Update: New IIDX on the way!

BMUS keeps scores as well.

Tsubaki, I think most people play the game with the VJARMY site open near them. I know that's how I do it. So everytime I finish a song, I can just enter in the Perfects, Greats, Goods, etc. from the Overview screen right there and then. Takes like ten seconds per song. If this isn't practical for you (like if your computer is in a different room from your bemani setup), you could do the MemoryMani mass-upload thing. See one of my posts a page or so back for what you need.

(inu: actually, you don't hold select for a minute. you hit start for song modifier thing, and hold select for two seconds... I tried holding select for minutes at a time and kept getting nothing. i accidentally found out the real way of getting it)

I don't play with the site open and do it one-by-one. After playing a good handful I just do one big update. Got one of the custom scorebook notepads that they were selling bemanistyle but never got into the habit of writing my scores down, too lazy. It has slots for combo and note breakdown for either score system for VJA and lots of boxes for the HS and other modifiers. Really nice notebook, I just decided to stick with big updates every now and then.

Compass, I just destroyed your lead on me in RED. You're still winning but I cut it down by over a thousand EX points. Went and took out all the L7 songs you had big leads on me in.

Speaking of destruction, I just uploaded all my 8th Style scores...

Yikes. Your lead went from like 1300 to over 5000. Keep in mind, these scores are from my first time playing these songs (second in a few cases where I did both L7 and 7k). Anyway, looks like I have an uphill battle ahead of me. Damn you and your 8th Style! That was your secret weapon. It was your plan all along to get me to buy it 'cause you knew this would happen, didn't you? ;_;

Mwuahaha, the master plan. 8th is by far my most-played, well-loved and overall ass-whipping style. I figured it would increase my leads. Now go get more 7key information for RED and the like (and buy all the other good styles)!.

I may play some RED tonight since you're still beating me on it.

I generally haven't been doing 7* star and up songs on 7key because it just gets so sad at that point. Way way beyond my current abilities.

So what are the other "good" styles you speak of? 10th? 7th? Regardless, I gotta slow down, or else there will be nothing new for me to look forward to between Happy Sky and DistorteD.

I hardly ever play anything above 7*, not even anothers with lower ratings. If the first few measures indicate it being a mashfest I just quit. You should really take out your low Ds and Es, I don't even bother posting scores for anything lower than a just-C (pass or fail). It's not a comparison of skill if we're both just flailing around like idiots trying to hit 10% of the key presses.

For styles, I'd recommend you get 10th next. I really enjoyed it, despite a lot of people saying meh to it. 9th has a lot of fans, though I like 10th more personally (I'm in the minority I believe). 6th is heavy on licensed Super Eurobeat and 5th is completely expendable to me. 4th is old interface so stink to that.

edit: oh shit 7th. I tend to forget it exists. It wasn't bad by any means, but it's so unmemorable to me for some reason. It doesn't work on my loader either so I simply don't play it.

It was my first style too and I tend to hate it, so bad theory. The saturation of eurobeat makes me uneasy.

I think the fact that one of my friends trying out IIDX for the first time played Romeo and Juliet a good 15 times in a row as his 'I must beat this before I pick a new song' challenge. That completely turned me off from 6th Style, I believe. And Solid Gold, which Tain whores from time to time.

edit: oh my god Compass, I never noticed how many battleground songs we have (<10 EX point difference). That's pretty absurd.

It is? Well go figure. I said before that 7th is the style I forget about a lot, so I'm not surprised I forgot that was on it. 6th still irritates me regardless.

6th Style is all about Vincent DeMoor and A New Morning and gettin' yo fro on with Wow Wow and VJArmy and uhhhhhhh some other stuff. And laughing at the awful vocals in Something Wonderful's [a].

It's also where one can marvel at 20, November on 14 being harder than its another, and where the true question to life can first be asked: "Why does every Expert Course have Dive in it?"

Hah, I guess I'm missing out on a lot of the hilarity. I typically don't play anothers out of old habit (I need to start giving them a shot) and I've never touched 14key. 14key is scary.

So I ordered new switches for my ASC (11, since they had a minimum $20 order, if someone has a need for 4 more switches hit me up with a PM). I have no idea what installation will be, but they ship out this week so I guess I'll find out soon enough. Two of them just felt way too soft, kind of like there was a soft film covering a contact point (I took everything apart, didn't find any gunk). Maybe I'm just paranoid, but it's 3 years old and had owners before me, so it can't hurt to get a new, fresh set in there.

Ugh. I am getting murdered. The more scores I enter for 8th, the worse it gets. I'm pretty much back where I was when we first started this rivalry. :cry:

Hey, I like it that way. Enter more for RED like that so you won't be beating me on any styles. This is a huge ego boost to me. :D

So, I ordered my new Omron switches (from digikey.com, super fast and low minimum order [$20] compared to other sites) and found that poo, this will require soldering. On the bright side I never really notice but Konami put decent wire slack in here so I guess I get a few tries if something gets butchered (and I have 4 extra switches). Now I need to figure out where I can borrow wire strippers and a soldering iron on campus...

edit: Compass, you bitch! You got your dj Dao PE before I could get my ASC all nice and brand new D: Totally uncool of you.

Update: New switches installed! Used one of those quick connector kit things from Wal-mart since soldering frightens me. Works beautifully. Time for Compass' fancy-ass PE versus my rejuvenated KASC.

Heh. Congrats on the new switches. And yes, I'm now back in the game with my shiny PE. I'm just finally getting used to the bigger TT and spacing. Time to start whittling down your lead in 8th Style...

Hey, I'm feeling 8th Style. This is probably my second favorite after RED. Lots of fun songs on here. I still can't get into 9th (and I've tried). 95% of it is just totally forgettable.

Glad you're digging 8th. It's my favorite, RED right after it (then third, despite me never playing it because ew old interface). 9th really is a hit-or-miss for everyone. I know a lot of people on VJA and bemanistyle that love it to death, and like me, a ton just don't play it. I feel the same indifference towards 7th Style so don't put that one too high on your list of what to buy next. I like 10th and 6th next out of what you still need, so look into those once you get Happy Sky.

I'm starting to try some Anothers finally. Actually passed one 7* with a B on RED (forget which). Most of them kick my ass pass-wise but I can bullshit my way through a mid C on several so far.

Hmm, I wouldn't have guessed you hold 3rd in such high regard. I know we talked before about how we find 9th forgettable, but I really thought I just needed more time with it. But I've gone back to it like ten times, and I *still* can't remember any of the music except for Star Field, Charlotte, and the EeL song. Damnit, but I'm determined to get into it.

As for doing even a single 7* Another... see, that's proof right there of how much further ahead of me you are. There are still 6* Light7 songs I can't clear. And 6* 7Key is really pushing it. No way do I go anywhere near Anothers unless they're 5* and below (and even then, it's usually not pretty... nearly all four key-simultaneous presses see me frozen and staring like a deer in headlights, or blindly mashing in a panic).

I pre-ordered the HS LE without the T-shirt from Himeya. That brings the price down to less than $150 shipped. And I'd never wear the shirt anyway.

10>6 imo. Tain lies. And for the record, he is MILES ahead of us, plus most of the other people who have ever said anything in this thread. He isn't omg doubles [a] or anything but he regularly makes me a bit stunned with some of the songs he can clear or at least play well. He hates ASCs, by the way.

There are plenty of 'easier' songs that destroy me. I can't do a good handful of 6*s, and I think there's a 5* on some Style that I still can't pass. Those fucking triangle (3-4-3 3-4-3 etc) patterns destroy me.

You should have gotten the LE with the shirt. As boring as the shirt is, it's all I want from the LE. I own both IIDX Secret Live t-shirts just because I like t-shirts.

I don't hate ASCs, I just think they're noisy. I'd have to wear headphones or turn the TV up far more than you'd want me to in order to use them. So I prefer the smaller. Plus, I'm more used to the tiny, easy-to-turn turntable.

Not as much as I'd like to. I took a nosedive in playing when I went to school last year and really didn't have a good place to put my controller (never bothered to find one), and this year, I've got a roommate that lives on the futon in front of the TV. I might try playing with my capture card on my PC (its weird that I can play IIDX alright on this thing but not shooters), I don't know. Also, my "short single player scorechasing game" slot has been pretty occupied by shooters as it is.

dog$'s the reason I said most and not all. He's a lot better, but he's so bitter about everything to do with video games he doesn't always count :P

I don't know, I had 6th first and it was it for me for quite a while, and I still prefer 10th over it without feeling any burnt-out attitude toward 6th. Just a personal opinion, I really didn't love love love 6th (not that I love 10th, I just like the songlist more). They're both good Styles.
