The people who did it are French (we presume), and are scum. There is nothing wrong with the thread title.Quote:

Were I neutral on France or if I were sympathetic to their situation, I'd think you were trying to be anti-French. (I'm not, I'm not, and I don't think so, but that's beside the point.)
A better title might have been, "French protestors deface graveyard" or something to that effect.
Ah well. I think graveyards are a waste of space, but still... No respect for other peoples' property. Tsk tsk.
You didn't like the chick?Quote:

Just kidding. Yeah, I only know Stone, but I'm disappointed, too. So much name-calling and arrogance. It's so frustrating to see people who are capable of saying some pretty eloquent things puncuate them with stuff like, "you dipshit," or "asshole".
How many threads are there about this stuff? And the arguments start off well enough, they just peter off into retorts and whatnot.
However! It's better than trying to argue with my mother; she feels that, as a parent, we should not be sending our children over there to die needlessly. She thinks we have no business over there (you know, even though we armed Hussein originally), that everyone there hates us and doesn't want to be helped, and that we should just level the entire country. Pretty crazy. Pretty irresponsible, too, wouldn't you think?
She's pretty hawt. Looks like she could use a few sandwiches, but not bad.Quote:

Look, the way some of you presumably intelligent people are presuming to know so much about a country when it is clear that you know nothing about it whatsoever is just stupefying to me.
I'm so angry after reading this thread that I don't want to get into this discussion right now, lest I post nothing but profanities. But let me clue you in on something:
You know why there's a large problem with anti-semitism in France compared to other European countries? Because compared to France, THERE ARE NO FUCKING JEWS ANYWHERE ELSE ON THE CONTINENT.
Know why you don't hear about anti-semitism in Britain? THERE ARE NO JEWS LIVING THERE.
Know why you don't hear about anti-semitism in Holland? THERE ARE NO JEWS LIVING THERE.
Know why you don't hear about anti-semitism in GERMANY? THE NAZIS KILLED THEM ALL (but still there is a little bit, but it's drowned out by Turkish hate nowadays).
France has one of the largest, most vibrant Jewish populations on the continent. And they also have one of the largest, most vibrant Arab populations. Guess what that means -- yep, lots of Israeli-Palestinian friction. And yes, the French are generally much more hospitable to the Palestinian point of view which, contrary to the view of some people on this board, does not automatically make them anti-semitic.
I'm going to take your reply personally, just to make this easier.Quote:

I think a lot of left-leaning people have such a vivid response to criticism of France (and this sort of thing) because they see it for what it is: an implication of the left as a fount of racism. Fair enough.
Heh...sleeveboy, the "there wouldn't be anti-semitism if there weren't Jews" argument, come on. Really? Shit, man.Quote:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/1905360.stm/ - why are French Jews asking for sanctuary?Quote:

Why are the French generally much more hospitable to the Palestinian point of view? Because of their long history of anti-colonialism? (hah) Because of their current desire to avoid non-interventionist policy? (hah) Because of shame over their colonialist history? (hah) Find some sort of source that gives a reason for the French, the culture, the people, to support the Palestinian point of view - why?

Ah, and about the name-calling and arrogance complaints: this is a message board. We ought to be happy with the slightest semblance of mannered debate - the arrogance and name-calling keeps things interesting (for me, at least).
Come on Stone, apologise for your comments and recognise that anti-semitism is not wide spread in France. The actions of a small minority within the muslim communities does not make us French a bunch of Israel hating anti-semites. Let's move on.
/me tries again.
Look, here's another pic.
I'm not sure I understand how France being (or not being) anti-Semitic relates to anything.
We clearly understand that there IS anti-Semitism there, just like there probably is all over the world. Just like there's anti-black and anti-whatever sentiments all over. That doesn't mean that the average French person dislikes Jews. But I don't see why there's an argument. Does the existence of a more-than-usual amount of anti-Semitism in France make some sort of magical keystone? I believe that the original complaint was that someone thought diffusionx was voicing an anti-French sentiment because he titled the post "French Scum".
I found nothing wrong with the title, you just could have allayed the bickering with a different title is all. Unless you wanted people to react; in which case, pardon my interruption.Quote:

Not a major difference in size. I'll give you Holland and Germany, though.
