Hmmm...while we're on the topic of squid, I might have to say my favorite variety is the cuddlefish. Very small, but neat looking none the less. And unlike most squid, it has a bone. Only one, but it's there none the less. The first time I saw one was on Iron Chef. :D
Also unlike most squid, it swims head first.

Any sea creature that can take out a grown Sperm whale deserves respect. About capivity, since deep sea creatures deal with intense pressure wouldn't be impossible to haul something like this aboard a ship?

The giant variety cephalopods natural habitat is very cold oceanic climates.
They theorize that the only reason we ever see them near the surface is this: through out the ocean there are currents of hot and cold water. These streams of varied temperature water (sometimes with many degrees of difference between the two) meet at various places in the ocean. The hypothesis is that the squid was doing his thing in the cold water, but inadverntantly followed one of the cold "streams" up to the surface where they are seen/caught/drawn in a weekly web comic.

I find both deep sea and dinosaur discoveries fascinating. I stumbled upon this story on CNN.com while looking for war news and was glued to my screen.
