Yeah, comedy with depth is good (Futurama, though? You can't cite a better example? ;)) but sometimes brainless, silly stuff can be great as well. This is not to say that Chapelle's humor is brainless; just trying to make a point.

Silly stuff is good, but I too prefer humor with depth...examples I would cite would be independent films such as Ghost World, and bigger stuff like Royal Tenebaums, Bottle Rockets, etc...and at one time Kevin Smith's work before he just started to suck...recent stuff like the Good Girl and others have a humor that is sort of perverse and doesn't really go over with the main stream...

I can't tell you how many people just don't get this type of humor...

But also, I would say well executed simple humor works as well, especially older members of the SNL crew and their early movie and TV work -- such as Ghost Busters -- one of my all time favorites and pure comedy genius...

But I think the biggest problem with humor today is that it is too dependent on current events and watching them in retrospect means you need to know that event A was happening at the time for the gag to be funny...I prefer stuff that is funny regardless of time frame...kinda like Calvin and Hobbes was...
