Got it from Gaming Age.
Yeah right, Acclaim. You guys haven't put out a game in ages. I mean, sure, you've put out software. But let me know when you put an actual game out.

Sorry but I love that pic.
Forming a coalition against bad platformer character designs. Anyone in?
We must put a stop to the Vexxs, the Sly Coopers, the Jak and Daxters, The Blinxs, and the Rachet and Clanks that flood the markets. We need not necessarily boycott the games themselves, just put enough pressure on the people who designed these characters until they are completely blacklisted from the gaming industry.
Slightly more on topic: Why has it been for years that most third-party platformer designers have been aiming for Mario whenever attention is lacking for their product. I guess I can answer my own question, but man, create your own bar to aim for, not just Nintendo's. Though I guess it's just easier to create a game in another one's shadow.
I did a guide on that game and it was painful.
Don't forget the lovable Ty the Tasmanian Tiger.Quote:

If Acclaim is on the box it is a good chance shit is inside.
Hey look! MSPaint! It reaks of the effort that was actually put into the game!
Companies like to pick on Mario because they're trying to appeal to the "OMFG NINTENDO R KIDDIE FAGZ LOL" audience and by insulting Mario or Nintendo they think it gives them a rebellious attitude.
I didn't think Vexx was that bad outside of that horrible lighting dealie........but that box....uh....yeah. MIDDLE FINGER FUCK YOU POWER OMG!
also, EB was giving away Vexx comic books, I have like 2000 of them. those were badass.
I'm with you on most of those, but please, don't diss Sly.Quote:

I actually think Sucker Punch's character design skills are excellent, especially for a Western company.
Burnout & Burnout 2 excepted, you mean, right?Quote:

And indeed, Vexx isn't that bad a game. If you decry "mascot" platformers, than you must admit Rayman and Klonoa look kind of dorky too, don't they? (So does Tork). It's entirely possible to have a bad character in a well-done game - I think Ashley Riot is a victim of horrid character design, but Vagrant Story is so well-done that it didn't matter. Same could be said for Wind Waker.
It's easy to look beyond the character design and enjoy platformers for what they are: imaginative, fantasy-based item-collecting obstacle courses. Sure, Mario was first and spawned legions, but that's why Mario's a classic.
With that said, that marketing ad is super lame.
Hold it. I won't let you discredit Klonoa by lumping him in with the rest of the trash in this thread - in no way will that happen here. Leave it outside.
I'm not necessarily saying all "mascot" platformers are bad. Just ones with characters who look like discarded puppets from an abandoned Chuck-E-Cheezes/Showbiz Pizza resturant.
I'm not discrediting Klonoa. His games are exceptional. But if you saw his character design before ever playing the game, you might think that he looked funny, with his rebellious backwards hat and huge ears. However, once you played the game, you realized he fit into the universe perfectly. You look past his details and lose yourself in the game, with little separation between yourself and him.
I'm saying is character design doesn't mean nearly as much as people think.
And Nintendo is still granting them license to publish this on the cube in Europe?
I'd be all like "OMG NO BITCHEZ! U DON'T DISS OUR SHIT!" and then I'd pee on all their employess named "Turok".
Klonoa and Sly are cool. nuff said.
