High Life is good in a bottle, but it takes like swill in a can.
Ive never had Pabst - how much is it?
I would have to vote for Miller, yea... MGD is decent and good.
If you want to get drunk, you cant beat Natty Ice. Five of those put me under for good. Although it tastes like ass.
And of course, you have to give props to the king:
Just bought two 24 packs of PBR in cans, $10 for each. It's a great deal. Mickey's is the malt liquor of choice in the Stone household, although I have much respect for OE and Haffenreffer.
Hmm... Ill check out Pabst on my next beer run. Thanks for the heads-up Stone.
I get drunk on V8.
Pabst is by far the best cheap 'drunk' you can buy.
MGD is the Champagne of Beers. :D
Heheh, I think that's High Life, man - I don't know what MGD is, the Prosecco of Beers? And, shit, I can think of quite a few cheaper drunks - think 40s of Mickey's, or a six pack of tall bottles of Haffenreffer.
Excuse me on both counts.
To revise, Pabst is the best cheap enjoyable drunk.
A couple weekends of Hurricane Malt taught me that.
Heheh, gotcha - I know what you mean.
I almost never drink domestic beer anymore, and if I have to it's usuly Sam Adams. It all sucks compared to a slightly chilled pint of Guinness.
High Life... it's the only one Rhydant and me can choke down...
Michelob Amber Bock. Best beer I have ever had.
Try Olde English High Gravity, Colt 45 Double Malt, or Steel Reserve. Those suckers are around 8% alcohol.Quote:

Mickey's makes a Mickey's Ice, but I've never actually found it. Haffenreffer is about 7%, I think. I don't really try to get drunk, anymore, but I think I'd probably just go straight to hard liquor if that was my goal.
Pabst, High Life, they aren't great beers, but they're a hell of a lot better than beers like Heineken, Corona (!), or foreign light beers like Amstel Light. As far as truly competitive American beers at any price, I think Anchor Steam is up there.
Anchor Steam's really fucking good, but I don't think you can consider is mass-market.
And I'm drinking a Corona right now.:( Of course, I didn't pay for it. With enough lime juice, you hardly taste the beer.
Nah, I was responding to Xeno Gigas' saying "It all sucks compared..." regarding Domestic beer. Anchor Steam is one of those beers that I think is competitive with any beer in the world (it's definitely not mass-market, $9 a six-pack at the grocery store today).
 Here, the expensive stuff goes for $9 a six.
I like Michelob Light. I drank myself sick of MGD but I enjoyed it for a great while. As far as malt goes, I'm partial to St. Ives.
I wish I could buy beer at a supermarket.Quote:

Damn you Anne Arundel county... damn you to hell.
Yes yes Olde English is tops. Our Guiness is actually american brewed in VERY large quantities so you could call that mass-produced. And there are a couple of local breweries (Summit and James Page) that have distributors in every state, but I don't know if that qualifies as "mass produced"
I stopped drinking but I rather liked Samuel Adams.
Screw US beers tough, there is no substitute for belgian beers for those who insist on burning in hell :D
Well, most Germans I know hate Heineken (which should tell the "All German Beer Is 1337" people something) and Corona is created by Mexican farm workers pissing into a tubs that Grupo Modelo Breweries left lying out there by the farms, so I wouldn't say that you'd have to go very far to beat out either of those beers...Quote:

I can't really think of too many mass-produced beers that I really enjoy. Killian's Irish Red is okay, as is Woodchuck Cider (yeah, not beer, I know). In a pinch, I usually drink Coors just because every place here has it.
But I always prefer porters and stouts, and those aren't typically mass produced.
I've never drank, but the British guy at work says that Summit is pretty good.
Drinking Coors makes me feel like a Republican, but I don't like the taste much. I've never had Summit - but when I said mass-market, what I meant were the macrobreweries - the huge, huge domestics.
Heineken tastes like piss.
Special X or Cabana Cervesa I think has Heineken beaten for skunkiest beers. Rolling Rock IMO is the *worst* popular beer, no flavor, no character, no nothing. Only 1 more year and I can actually drink beer ;)
P.S. Bier perfection=Hacker/Paulaner imports
Beer perfection=Bush beer(no relation)
Bush beer is the heaviest beer in the world at more then 18 degrees.
Its brewed in belgium for well over a century and ages naturally with triple fermentation(metal open cauldrons, after that in big vats and final fermentation inside the bottle).
You dont know what FULL BODIED means until youve had a bush(no pun intended)
Yeah, I've heard the name, but haven't as yet seen it in the middle of this beerlover's wasteland of taste. I personally like german wheat beers the best, and largely stay away from the premium. My test of whether a beer is quality is to try one warm after I get it home, if the flavor is good at room temperature I think it shows it has enough real flavor. Whereas the pilsners have to be served very cold to hind their underlying lack of flavor. Just my weird little opinion :)
Youre oppinion is kinda correct.
For the artisinal beers if you order one in Belgium they will ask you if you want one cold or from the tab behind the bartender where they are kept at room temprature.
Agreed... Rolling Rock sucks, but its the best beer in the world to drink at punk rock clubs.Quote:

Coors Light is pretty benign - three in, and you'd swear you're drinking seltzer water. Easy to get drunk off of, despite the low alcohol content, because you can literally drink gallons.Quote:

Heineken isn't German. It's Dutch.Quote:

What urban legends? I was joking about the fact that Corona tastes like piss. If that's really an urban legend then that's entirely a coincidence...Quote:

The problem with Corona is that is doesn't taste like much of anything - and then people further fuck it up by putting lime in it. Limes don't belong anywhere near beer - they belong in gins and tonics and other good things like that.
Pabst is the only one out of the many Stone has handed me that didn't leave a terrible aftertaste in my mouth.
Which isn't to say it tasted good beforehand.
Hehe. I'll take some "Old Fortran" any day.
You know the lime was originally to keep the flies away? Then people were like, "Oh, you're supposed to squeeze it in!"Quote:

They also put gay stuff in their Coronas, like Grenadine. Heh.
Pabst and Old Style are the primary beers in my household, as far as 40s go it's Heffenreffer and Mickeys.
So in other words, i drink basically what stone drinks
sidenote, I'm not a fan of Heineken but the new Heineken Dark is pretty good
Amen to that. Speaking of Gin and Tonics, care to recommend some drinks that a person partial to them might like Stone? I'm getting somewhat tired of beer, and I need to expand my mixed drink portfolio, so to speak.Quote:

never drink a Dr.Comfort, its Dr.Pepper with Southern Comfort, very gross...
Cigs, have you ever had good scotch? It has a very deep almost smokey flavor, and its very nice at the end of a long day. I think liquor should be unadulterated myself, with the exception of adding soda/tonic or anything relatively flavorless.
There's definitely a lot to be said for drinking liquor neat, or with ice...I like Scotch, most any type of Scotch: my favorite single malt is Laphroaig, but I like a lot of the "La"s, like Lagavulin. I'm not one of those single-malt freaks, though, I just enjoy it.
Straight Bourbon is good, too, Maker's Mark isn't that expensive and it's fantastic.
As far as drinks like Gin and Tonic - it's hard to say. The tonic really gives the drink a unique flavor, something pretty hard to duplicate. It's basically a highball, though (generic name for liquor + soda drinks).
My favorite highball is a Brandy and Soda - 2oz brandy, maybe 6 or 8 oz of soda. Just good, simple, I think the flavors of the brandy make it through the soda better than they do with scotch. As far as which brands of brandy to use: you don't really want to use an expensive Cognac. I drink it with Martell VSOP at the local bar, but if I was making them for myself at home, I wouldn't use anything more expensive than a Spanish brandy like Tres Cepas. I think a cheap Armagnac could be fantastic with soda, but I've never actually tried it. Spanish brandy is less dry than French cognac, which works well.
Um, Tom Collinses are a key summer drink. That's 2oz gin, about half of a lemon squeezed into a glass, and about 1-2tsp of sugar. Shake it up (or stir it), and then pour it into a tall rectangular glass (Collins glass). Ice, and fill it up with soda. Just an absolute classic drink, really good, everyone who drinks a properly made one loves it. Calliander can contest to that. Problem is, in bars, they tend to use sour mix/Collins mix, which is a stupid waste - how hard is it to squeeze a lemon and toss in sugar? Sour mix tends to have an artificial taste that can ruin the drink. They're worth making for yourself.
Gin rickeys are good if you like something drier. 2oz of gin, half of a lime, squeeze the lime into the gin, toss the hull of the lime in the glass, and fill up with soda. No sugar. More bracing than most highballs, really tasty, and one of the best hot-weather drinks ever.
Whiskey and soda can be a good bet, too, not to dismiss that because I like Brandy and soda.
There's a type of Italian Bitter (I think it begins with a C) that is heavily flavored with quinine (the same stuff that's in tonic) - I can't remember the name right now, it might've had artichoke flavoring too. I once made this drink with it, gin, and lime (no soda, like a Martini) that ended up tasting a bit like a very compact Gin and Tonic. That's pretty obscure though.
Hrm. Yeah, I'd give a try to whiskey sodas with Scotch, Bourbon, Rye (Rye is hard to find but I think that's probably the best out of the three with soda).
It's hard to recommend a cocktail because most places aren't any good at making them. Unless you seek out places that can make real drinks all the time, it's probably better to stick to simpler, common drink like a G&T or beer.
Actually, becoming a good bartender is really easy, and you'll quickly learn how to make drinks that taste far better than what the average professional makes, simply because you care about the results.
what is SoCo anyways? I mean what kind of alchohol is it?Quote:

Man of leisure indeed!
Are you thinking of Cinzano?
SoCo is bourbon, I believe. It goes great with Coke, so I don't see why it would go bad with Dr. Pepper. I think Box Drink just hasn't acquired the taste yet.
IMO the scotch has got to be good. Bad scotch is freaking terrible.Quote:

A good vodka goes with almost everything, and by "good," I mean "better than Absolut." Ketel One is very good, and it's about the same price as Absolut, and you can even splurge for the Grey Gooses and such. I like vodka tonics even more than gin & tonics, but they really aren't all that different.Quote:

Whiskeys are hit or miss IMO - you generally have to acquire the taste first, and you can't always mix them with much.
I don't see how a Corona with lime is worse than a Corona without one. Though Corona sucks, period. A Red Stripe with lime is a lot better, and a Heineken with one is actually potable.Quote:

A Hefeweizen with lemon is excellent, IMO.
Whiskey definitely is an aquired taste, and I'd agree that it generally doesn't mix well with much. It only took me about a week to really start to like Jack Daniels on ice. Even before that, I thought that whiskey is pretty much always a good blend with a cola. Best one I've had is Royal Crown and coke.Quote:

SoCo & 7UP!!!!
No, just remembered, it's Punt E Mes. It's made somewhere in Italy that begins with a C, I think that's why I thought that (plus, it seems like there are a ton of Italian liqueurs with C's as their first letter). Oh, and Cynar is the one with artichoke, but that doesn't have quinine flavoring in it.Quote:

You mean Crown Royal whiskey, I think - did you drink it with Royal Crown (RC) cola?Quote:

Thanks Stone, burgundy, I'm going out this Friday so I'll mix it up a little. I could see mixing some drinks at home some point in the future, but not now as I really can't afford the supplies.
blended whisky is shit in a bottle compared to a really fine single-malt. I have a great bottle of 18-year sitting on my shelf and it works better than any medicine for the cold or insomnia. I've found the 25-year to be a little too strong flavor-wise, but I drink straight, so maybe someone who mixes might find it ok.

1.) Get a bottle of bourbon.
2.) Climb into bed.
3.) Drink until you see four bedposts.
