I recently had the pleasure of going on a weeklong trip to China (no SARS so don't ask) and had my first encounter with beer. A week later, I genuinely like the stuff. So I wanted some of your suggestions. I know there are a couple of threads to this effect already but I don't feel like digging through them.
These are the ones I tried:
YanJing: this is basically Beijing Budweiser I was half decent on tap, but a pint of this (half-liter over there) was basically the first beer I had. Had about four cans courtesy of China air on the way back (10 hours and no movie, what the hell is with that) and I can say I would only really want to drink it on tap.
Tiger: Had it from a bottle, didn't like it as much as the YanJing but it was ok
Tsing Tao: tasted like budweiser brewed with fish oil, going to avoid this one.
Sun Tory: (I think that's how it's spelled) This one was my favorite. It's a Japanese beer that was available in what looked like 22 oz bottles for 2.75 yuan (that's about a quarter) in a Shanghai grocery store.
Carlsberg: Had this both on tap and bottled, it didn't seem as smooth as the asian beers to me so I didn't get into it quite as much.
Guiness:I liked it, was pretty drunk already, I might have liked it better if it was one of my first.
