AIA has never released a US title have they? It would be pretty sad if the porting of Rent-a-Hero put them under. I blame Gamestop for "choosing to pass on carrying this particular small title". :oQuote:

I'll try to get back in touch with AIA to see what the full scoop is on the game. Hoping to do this during the next week, although since my schedule will be pretty full (surprisingly), it might have to wait.
Now delayed until May...
This game is going to get canned, man. This is the last delay report. When May rolls around they'll finally kill it.
Seriously guys... fuck this game. It's not that good. Let it go.
Don't Sega of America have any input in this one at all?
I know that the Xbox exclusives haven't exactly sold in great numbers but it can't be doing much for their profile messing around the small fanbase thats there.
Just got off the phone with a AIA rep. She said that it's delayed again, but it'll be on shelves for sure by early-2006. Seems the extra time is being used to fine-tune the translation and add a mini-game where you go around stealing used panties from underage girls.
Jeremy will keep this thread alive until then.
Well, he needs something to look forward to.Quote:

Also, according to the owner of VGPub, AIA's number is still disconnected. So that 0% of the game seeing release is pretty spot-on.
The sad thing is, I'll bet that this'd be out sooner if Jeremy learned how to program XBox games, learned Japanese, translated the game itself, made peace in the Middle East, and self-published it.
That's probably true. Although if I'm ever able to get ahold of a copy of the game, I'll try to do something to help get it out there.
"Nobody cares. Nobody cares! Nobody caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaares, Nobody, (Nobody) Nobody, Caaaaaaaaaaaaares! Noooooooooobody Caaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrreesss! Nobody cares!"
If I thought it was coming out, I'd care. I think I've learned to live with the knowlege I came this -><- close to playing a Rent A Hero at last, but I have no plans for forgiveness towards the guilty parties.
James
I have my DC import, but I'd really like to play an English version of it.
Oh well.
So, anyone play Ninja Gaiden? I hear it's pretty cool.
Ever heard of a company called Coolnet? They aren't the same company as AIA are they?
EDIT: Nevermind. That's the company that MADE the game. RaH#1 is mentioned on this months EBTV as being from Coolnet, and it's rare that they mention the name of the developer instead of the publisher.
CoolNet was recently called CoolCool, so they may have had a name change. Rumpy, great quote from one of the funniest Futurama Vol. 3 commentaries. Korly, I'll ask the owner of VGPub, who does have the 80% build of it given out at the last E3, if he can snag some sort of translation for it. Amazingly, the next "delay" has NOT been shown on EB's site yet, so expect it in the next 26 days or so. There's a nice PDF of the game's front cover and such, which should, ideally, allow folks to print out a copy of it and make their own RAH case. The site also has some blurry pics of the game as well, which I haven't seen before.
Good lookin' out man.
You're welcome. Hopefully, VGPub will be able to find out what the deal is with AIA, as it stands though, their phone is still disconnected, as of a few weeks ago. Which certianly doesn't bode well for this game ever coming out.
AIA actually has a new name.. Ignition Games, I believe. Not sure what the tragic fate of RAH is, though. I'll ask next time I get the chance.
Wow, thanks for that info man.
If it ever arrives I will pay money for it. It still hasn't fallen off the release list and there's even the EB tv spot on it, and those don't happen for free. I'm really hoping that this time we'll actually get to play the game, at long, long last.
James
Yeah, the second I see it, if I see it, I'll snatch it up in an instant. I've been waiting far too long for it to pass up on it when/if it comes out. I wouldn't mind seeing the EB TV spot for it.
(makes mental note to dig out the review copy) ;p
Don't get too excited over that spot, it's one of the lame "trivia" questions. How does he get his powers? Is it A, B, C, D? And then they give the answer and mention that Coolwhatever is publishing. Not worth tracking down, no gameplay is shown.
Of course, it doesn't help that the EB tape loop is more concerned with running music videos and movie previews than showing games. Maybe that deserves it's own thread? This is TNL, we can bitch about anything here. :)
James
Ah, thanks for the impressions of the vid. I envy those with a review copy, although it apparantly isn't a 100% complete version, it's still gotta be better than nothing. Which reminds me, I'd better get hopping on updating my History of RAH piece for VGPub.
I have seen this topic several times, so I figured I would actually read it to see what the fuss was about. Judging by the way the thread went (with the release date being pushed back and the price cuts), the game will come out in 2008 and they will actually pay you to take the game off the shelf.
Actually, I'm amazed you still care about the game. If I anticipated a game for so long like that, I'd be pretty upset, so kudos to you.
Thanks. I'd lost interest in the game for a few months, mainly due to the seemingly endless "delays" and other things. Now though, my desire for it is rekindled.
I don't anticipate much of anything anymore, personally. Harvest Moon: Wonderful Life was one and Unity is another, but beyond that I'm not dying for anything. I've got so much on my pile that the thought of another game joining it is more of a worrying thought than anything else. :)
But I will follow games I know I'll be buying, and this is one. Besides, it's turned into a toal soap opera, there's no way I could stop watching now.
James
Yeah, the drama just surrounding the release of this game has been far more intriguing than the plots in most games released in the past... year or so.
This game is never coming out! This thread should be deleted!
*checks who mods are
Whew, that won't happen.
It'll probably come out.
Does anyone know the OFFICIAL Vegas odds though?
I'd go with... 70/30 as the official Vegas odds.
No more EBGames' listing for it... this is not good.
I can't wait until this game never comes out.
Neither can I. Here's a link to Digital Press' review on the game, which I don't think I've linked to in this thread - http://www.digitpress.com/reviews/rentahero.htm
We'll if this game does mpt get released, I hope somebody distributes it through whatever channel is necessary. ;)
That reminds me, I should look into a DVD burner over the next few weeks...

Well, fuck.
Yay! I missed having the false hope of an eternally shifting release date trying to fool me into a belief that I could own this game some day.
James

Does a Virtua Hamster count?
Ok, if I'm going to track this down at E3 I need info- what's Coolnet's relation to Ignition, as mentioned in the Gamefaqs thread? I can't look for it if I don't have a direction in which to go.
James
Coolnet/CoolCool did the Xbox porting, AIA (possibly now known as Ignition) did the translating, and presumably, implemented it in the game.
jpeep2000, are you going to E3?
Not this year. I'd planned to go, and had some plans in place back in November, but some family-related stuff that came up in Dec./Jan. put the kaibosh on them rather quickly. If all goes well, I'll be going next year.
Now I just want to know, how the fuck did this game get "reviewed" in EGM like almost a year ago?
They, and everyone else, including G2X, were given an 80% complete build of the game that AIA deemed "reviewable." They wanted John (now the owner of VGPub) to review the game, but he said there were far too many text errors for him to give it a fair review. I think the thread I just linked has geelw's impressions on some of the text problems in that build, either that one, or one of the top two threads on the GameFAQs RAH board.
Another question: Didn't everyone who got their hands on that say it was bad? If that's the case why are you guys so excited about a bad game that looks like it will never come out anyway.
Somehow this tactic of pushing back a bad looking game reminds me of Tomb Raider.
None of the reviews I've seen called it "bad" per se, just odd. I've been excited about it since I first saw it in Gamefan years ago, the premise is rather interesting, and the Shenmue-esque gameplay intrigues me. If it ends up being a bad game, so be it. It still seems like something I would enjoy experiencing, at least once, if never again.
Word.
Some not-so-good confirmation - http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gen...3739093&page=1
I hate to be the bearer of bad news (AGAIN), but this game is never coming out.
Sorry to crap on your breakfast.
Well, that's pretty much been known for a while. Still holding out hope that I'll be able to get a copy somehow.
Could always pay an obscene amount of money for a preview copy. If you can find somebody willing to part with one.
I'll probably be paying zilch for mine when I go that route.
You need to let this go.
It's a huge prank by sega to keep you, Jeremy, in a state of dissapointment and longing. Yes, Sega really has that much free time. Not like they're making good games anymore.
According to geelw on the GameFAQs boards/Digital Press, VF Quest looks and plays like an updated version of this game. w00t!!
Somebody really needs to close this thread for Jeremy's well-being.
Ah, but I might get a reviewable copy soon enough...
Burn me copy if you do. I'm more than willing to say screw it at this point and pirate the damn thing, and if it ever arrives I'll just pay for it as normal.
James
Once I get a DVD burner, and the game itself, that shouldn't be much of a problem. Plus, it's kind of hard to pirate something that'll never see the light of day.
1-Up's listing of tons of reviews for the game, including a positive one from GameNow - http://www.1up.com/search_results/0%2C2426%2C%2C00.asp?qry=rent%2Da%2Dhero&filterapp=&site=0|all|
well if anyone does end up getting a preview copy, i'd be willing to make copies (as long as there isn't a shit load of people that want one).
That'd be awesome. I'll ask my review copy source if I can get a copy of his disc ASAP.
Sign me up as one of those people. I would be happy to give you a small reinbursement for your time and energy. :)Quote:

Cool, and I'll try and get some covers done. Also, an insert for the game DOES exist, as a GameFAQs user whose been following the game forever has stated. He offered it to me, but I declined. Always possible to undo that thing though.
Talk about piracy somewhere else. It's not welcome in Gaming Discussion.
Piracy? Who's talking about piracy? We're just discussing a game that will never be commercially released... :)
So take it to Got Next. :)Quote:

Not a problem, thanks for the heads-up.
I suppose this was a quick wander into a proscribed area, whoops. Still-
The best way for the company to avoid piracy it to release the damn game! I'm probably going to end up with cheapjack Hong Kong bootleg subs of One Piece on DVD for exactly the same reason- the company with the rights won't let me have the product. Although in One Piece's case, that's more of a guess as to what's going to happen than Rent A Hero's final failure.
Haven't done this since Thrill Kill back on the PS1. Even though I didn't much care about the game I thought EA's actions sucked, and felt the need to give them the finger somehow. :)
James
That's not true. As long as there's people out there with so little respect and character that they'd actually pirate a game given to them out of good faith, they're hardly going to avoid piracy.Quote:

Maybe not, but there exists out there a product I want in the form I want. I have money in my pocket I'd happily give to the provider of the product, and though I'd vastly prefer it to be a legitimate source, when the legit source tells me, in no uncertian terms, that my money isn't good enough for them to bother, I'll just get it some other way.
That same argument means I don't get to own any imports for my PS2, by the way. Sony has made it pretty clear their views on importing, and also what they think is appropriate for the US market.
I should point out I'm not claiming high moral ground here, I'm saying that something I want is available and I can buy it. I really can't think of any reason not to.
James
Whatever your reasons are fine. I mean I'm a horrible fucking pirate, I just don't try to justify it.Quote:
