OK, now what you need to do is to go buy Battlefield 1942- Play it, love it, get used to the mechanics and such, then, go and download the desert combat mod on fileplanet and become hopelessly addicted to it! Honestly dude, it absolutely kills counter strike. counterstrike is fun and all, but you really gotta try desert combat if you're into FPS's

For better or worse, CounterStrike has been around forever, so people have a feel for how the game plays and how to work in teams, etc. Thats not to say there are problems (AWP), but at least the flaws in CS are mainly technical... in Battlefield or Tribes, the flaws are the players.

*I actually feel that way about Team Fortress Classic, but that's neither here nor there

I couldn't agree with you more! I've been into Battlefield 1942 since the beginning and so many morons that had no idea how to work as a team populated the servers. Alot of times, MY frieds and I just set up on lan and play because of it. But after a while, you do start to learn what servers won't put up with the stupid shit and I stick to them!
In time, Battlefield will be like counter strike and team fortress, but in the meantime, we will have to deal with the morons. Rock on!! Easy Kills!!

Yes, it's true that the learning curve for Battlefield 1942 is higher than Counter-Strike's, but that's the price you pay for the amount of freedom the game gives the player. Can you fly a plane in CS? Drive a jeep (yes I know these exist in certain gimmick CS maps)? A tank? Does CS let you be the gunner in the back of the plane on a bombing run? Can you be a medic and help heal teammates? Can you man anti-air cannons and shoot down enemy planes? Does CS have dynamic and changing spawn points, depending on how close your team is to accomplishing its objective?

If you think you're not getting the proper BF1942 experience, maybe you should try some different servers. If you hop into one of the 48-64 person servers, then there's a good chance you'll find someone camping by the planes or sniping in the middle of nowhere. That's because people are idiots. But then again when's the last time you saw a 32 person Counter-Terrorist team working together in CS?

It's true that some maps facilitate certain actions/strategies more than others, but that's only because most maps become unfair when there's more than 6 people on each team.

Have you ever tried being a CT on Assault when there's 10+ terrorists camping/watching every entrance to the warehouse? Or rescuing the hostages on Militia when all the Terrorists are camping in the kitchen, garage, and bathroom? Or in the house on Italy? What about escorting the VIP on Oilrig with 10+ terrorists? Only the most blatantly retarded terrorist teams can lose on those maps.

On the other hand, only the most blatantly retarded CT teams will lose on Dust, Aztec, etc. As soon as one team has 7 or more players, they've got enough bodies to cover the chokepoints on almost any map.

Can you guess why they only play bomb/defuse maps in professional CS matches and tournaments?

Dust2 is about the only fair map with a lot of players, and that's because it's huge and has more choke points than a large CT team could cover.

Gimmick maps can be fun as hell, but you'll have a tough time finding servers that play a lot of those maps and are consistently filled with players. :kirby:
