Amazing.
I seriously have not had that much fun with a light gun game since the first Time Crisis and Point Blank.
I gotta make this quick since I just got home from SVGL and I gotta leave for work in 15 minutes =X I'll make sure to come back to this afterwards though.
First off, the game is beautiful. I'm not sure what board it's running on (Honestly I never payed attention to VC3) but it looks VERY nice. There are some moments with slow down, but I think it was all intentional. The backrounds have plenty to interact with (See: Shit flies EVERYWHERE.) and to best compare it to something would be to say that it's a lot like Crisis Zone.
But not ugly :D
The biggest change to the gameplay is of course the pedal which slows down the action. Now when I first heard of this I initially thought "Lame!". But now that I've experienced it I couldn't imagine the game without it. As soon as you hit the pedal every single action on the screen becomes exagerated (You can see the wind like Auto Modellista, bigger explosions ect), everything around you becomes THAT more dramatic. Of course, the bullets wizz by you ala' The Matrix, but the coolest part is that when you hit the pedal, you also have to deflect the bullets of your enemies with your own. I think I need an outburst right now with my good friend 'bold'.
IT'S THE COOOLEST THING EVERRRRRR XD!!!
It seriously didn't get old. Everytime I stepped on the pedal I felt giddy. I would even hold it down for single enemies just to see how cool everything looks.
That pedal is the closest thing to sex the light-gun genre will ever see. Kudos!
There were some moments when you simply MUST use the pedal (Tons of enemies, certain boss moments) but all the fun comes from just randomly stepping on it.
Do you remember Die Hard Arcade? Remember those bits inbetween the fighting where you had to run down a hall and punch someone in the face? Yeah? Well Virtua Cop 3 has that in it's own special way!
Inbetween shooting areas you'll come across cut scenes which are marked with exclamation marks. Time freezes, everything goes black and white and you have some targets to shoot in a very small amount of time. I don't want to spoil much, but some of them having you simply shooting grenades out of the air while escaping a room to jumping out of the way of a truck. They're all well done and if you fail those moments, then you're just met with a barrage of enemies. They're all pretty fun though, regardless of the outcome.
And thats it! I came into VC3 not expecting much (Im not a VC fan at all) but Virtua Cop 3 is without a doubt one of my favorite light-gun games to date, right up there with good ol' Time Crisis.
So now everyone has to go hunt down a machine =D I'll post some pics when I get home tonight.
