25,000 yen is roughly $207, so basically no change for a much improved unit. At first I was thinking $250 for the newer unit and that wouldn't be nice....

Oh, no, wait, that's not on the list at all. *snicker*. Armored Core fans are going to hate the removal of the IEEE 1394 port (byebye link mode). However, if these changes go along with hardware revisions that make the system easier to mod, I'm all for them.
will it stop playing cd-based games after 6 months, just like the current model?
Umm... so even though the remote sensor is now built in, it still costs an extra $20 to buy the remote? :wtf: Ah well, at least it has progressive-scan DVD playback, but that's not worth another $200+ for me.
Looks like Sony is taking after Nintendo's "Let's wait until everyone in the world buys our product, then brutally rape them by releasing an infinitely superior version of that product a couple months later" style. I'm not impressed.
I say hoorah for the fact that you can switch the damn thing off with the remote - damn that's irritating. DVD-R, RW, +R, +RW - that's a definate improvement. No biggie about the port being removed, progressive-scan, extra cool... but will I buy it when it comes out? I don't think so, I will wait until I have heard a bit more about how much of a beating it can take and how different is is from the current PS2.

Sounds good, I've been meaning to get a JPS2 sometime, and this would be perfect. Also, only 207 is a decent price, not to mention I might find better deals on E-Bay after a while, so I'm pretty happy.

Perfect timing. I've repaired my Playstation 2 twice now, and I'm almost positive it's about to kick the bucket for the last time.
Cool, now if only they'd redesign the aesthetic portion of the hardware and go flip top for the sake of a slim lined version (and cheaper).

Yeah, really... PS2 is not the best built machine. The XBox is actually the best as far as hardware goes (for the current consoles), software is a completely different story.
the remotes new abilitys are cool, it would be cool if you could do it with the dual shock or something. i've always wanted console controllers to have the ability to turn the console on and off.
Why is it that we need a stupid remote way to open the damned tray ? It's like if you're close enough to change the disc, you're close enough to press the eject button.
In any case, apart from System Link did the firewire port support anything else ? A cam ? A perpheral ? Anything ?
I watch regionless dvds on my PS2, so that prog-scan mode sounds nice. I wouldn't mind picking one up when it hits the sub-200 dollar range.
Bah. This is basically just a DVD upgrade and I already own a regionless DVD player from the future that can do all the ooh ah crap.

This really makes things easier for pirates. There was debate about V5, V7 etc., so it's nice to see that sony has listened to consumer demand and come out with a more pirate friendly version. +R and -R? Most xboxes can't do both formats. They remembered to cover all bases this time around! It will still probably be sometime before a chip is made for this revision though.

I have 4 remotes for my HD TV, like I need another one for my PS2. I think I'll have to duct tape them altogether for convenience purposes and reformat the buttons so any I cover up with the tape do nothing. Yes yes, this is a plan, perhaps some sort of additional juice dispensor... *wanders off in thought*
