VHS Videos about Videogames

Well the ones I've seen are horrid.

One is called GameBrain and is a MTV produced tape which has strategies for games, why is it that in these videos some annoying dude has to be transported into the video game world. It's mostly a stategy/hint tape and not worth the buck I paid for it.

Just tonight I found an obscure SEGA VHS tape it is a SEGA Game Gear tip tape that was given out to guests that stayed at the Howard Johnson Hotels, it's probally the worst piece on Gaming I have ever seen.

On the other hand I though the N64 promo tapes they sent out in the mail were ok, though mostly it was for the videos of upcoming games.

Anyone Collect these? I heard the Lords of Thunder Tape about the Duo was pretty cool, and I used to have a Sega Master system preview tape tha was nice.

only tapes i have are from back in the day that you'd get from Nintendo Power.

some official tapes of the Super Mario Bros show, and um. i guess The Wizard.

Funny you should bring this up. I was just at a thrift store and they had the Donkey Kong Country promo vhs from 1994. I didn't get it, but might go back. $2 ain't that bad.

I love this crap! Let me rummage through my collection:

- Starfox64: The infamous mario doll kidnapping / pizza delivery guy schtick, an istant classic.

- Banjo-Kazooie: never watched it

- Hot Newz64 Nsider's Guide to N64: Unopened

- Top Gear Rally: I think the only thing good about this one was the fact that it featured the mk4 tv ad in it.

- Midway Promo: Micro Machines stuff, I think it has the Mk4 and NFl Blitz tv ads in it.

- ECW Hardcore Revolution: All I can remember about this one is that it is terrible.

- The Making of NFL Blitz!: This one was really cool, because it featured the creators

- N64 Sports: Who cares

- Game Brain: Really shitty

- Diddy Kong Racing: This one is my favorite. It's like a mock newshow with people acting all slapsticky and shit talking about DKR.

- Fuse THE VIDEO GAME MAGAZINE OF THE FUTURE!!!111: Pffft, this one sucked, it showed some news, like the unvieling of Sonic Adventure in Japan, but the rest was crap, it did show you what Gameshark.com's code boy looked like, an interview with the chemical brothers, and a round table discussion type thing about tenchu with the then editores of Game Informer.




I used to have this one about Digital Pictures, talking about Corpse Killer and the Scotty Pippin game. That thing was my pride and joy, and my asshole brother destroyed it.

I've never forgiven him for it.









I'd love to get more of these, I know blockbuster used to have these videos to rent, for free. I can remember watching the Yoshi's Island video back in the day.

I have a Midway one and the N64 Sports promo. Pretty forgettable.

I've got the ones with all the WWF Raw codes on it, it had all sorts of nice Raw matches on it as well. Clipped of course, but still better than anything on the Raw 10th anniversary special.
The ECW Hardcore Revolution promo tape is great because it never shows a thing from the actual game, it does however have an Awesome-Tanaka match on it, the one from November to Remember 99, so it's somewhat good, great for free.
Aside from that, I've got tapes that I've made of some of my greatest gaming moments.

Anyone remember those game-guide tapes they used to sell at EB? I remember there was a Tenchu one and an Metal Gear Solid tape. I think it showed some dude beating the game, or something, I was always curious as to what was on it, but I never bought it.

I've got a video tape of a perfect clear on Battle Garegga (thanks Seven Force!). Very inspiring.

I also have a perfect "Recca" tape (it's an old but very good Famicom shooter), plus a couple of Japanese promo vids that I can't remember too well (one of them is Sonic Adventure I know).

I find those US "Genesis Tips" and Nintendo videos all the time in thrift stores for cheap. They're great as gift items to send to Japan so I always buy them. (my Japanese tapes come from similar shopping habits I'm sure).

Hah - I used to have that one. Corny but funny! I think I sent it to Australia.

I have a 10 minute promotional VHS of Blazing Lasers for TG16 somewhere in a box in an attic in my parents house. I have no recollection/idea how I acquired it. Possibly it just showed up in the mail....

I think my best one was a Beatmania video that Dog$ made me. :D
