I hate basketball, and all that, but goddamn, that man was a pimp.
Considering my utter comtempt for the sport, the fact that I would watch it to see him play is pretty big.
It's kinda sad that's he's hung on so long, and his skills have gone down, but he's still the greatest that ever was.
Props to him.
If he hadn't retired the second time back in '98 and just kept on playing, I'm sure he could've stayed at top form for a few more years and broken many more records.
But leaving the sport for three years, sitting in an executive chair and smoking cigars sapped away too much time and too much of his ability.
But still, seeing the old Jordan sometimes rear his head in the now-40-year old's body and completely take over a game and dominate people 15+ years younger than him was amazing...I guess that's why he was always His Airness.
If you saw the game last night on ESPN, im glad the fans cheered for Jordan like that but i would have like to see jordan play until the end of the game
Jordan's a legend, here's to hoping he can pass on some of his knowledge to the younger guys. This last comeback was seemingly done so that he could give the younger players some of his wisdom about the game, and not to keep breaking records.
he could've provided wisdom via being a coach - not by attempting to ruin his legacy... one thing that can be said about Jordan is that he did not go out on top.
I respect him for coming back to play without worrying about tarnishing his storybook ending with the Bulls. He didn't need to keep playing, but he came back because he wanted to, and even if he wasn't the best anymore, he was still damn good.
I miss seeing him here in Chicago, but Bulls basketball has moved on with a bright future, and I'm sure the rest of the NBA will do the same.
I'm glad MJ came back again, and though he didn't enjoy the success he's been accustomed to, personally, I think MJ deserved a farewell tour, which he never really got in his two previous retirements. He also was able to pass the torch this season, and though there was no real one player who received it (McGrady, AI, Kobe, VC, etc., all have a piece), it's a "rights of passage" that needed to be done, as Dr. J did for MJ.
It's also another sign that I'm getting older. :(
well, the reason he came back (and didn't want to be a coach or anything like that) is because he wanted to play. when he was part owner, sitting in the owner's box all those games, he was so frustrated that he was just watching the games, and not out there playing it.Quote:

anyway, some of you guys talk about MJ like it's debatable whether or not he's the greatest. MJ isn't one of the greatest; he is THE greatest. MJ is not a legend; he is THE legend. someone once said, "michael jordan plays basketball better than anyone has done anything." that's pretty bold and i don't necessarily agree with it, but it does show that he was the master of his craft.
Even though he did not end with another championship like he did before, I don't think he hurt his legacy at all. He showed that he still loved the game and found it impossiable to leave it even if he was getting up in the years. He just wanted to play and there is nothing wrong with that, after all its his legacy to make. I hope he does into coaching rather than just being a partial owner. But I just don't see him as a coach really. But whatever, he is still the greatest of all time no question.
MJ was da man.. Had me watching basketball for awhile too. It sure was kewl winning championships over & over :).
