One thing to think about before you get into saturn shmupping. If you do not have a TV or Monitor that you are willing to flip for tate, don't even bother with DDP or Battle Garegga. The Yoko modes in these games make them look so ugly it is a sin.
Some games can get away with it, Gunbird 2, Ikaruga on the GC, Mobile Light Force 2 seems to have a very nice cropped mode that loses none no screen space. DDP DOJ looks to have a nice cropped mode too, but trust me about Dodonpachi & Garegga.

For the Cap'n: I think Psyvariar is a decent game but really pretty weak. If it's any indicator, I haven't sold a shooter out of my personal collection, ever. Just last week I chose to sell Technosphile my Psyvariar because I knew I'd never play it. IMO the thing is a complete eyesore. It reminds me of that old CG video "The Mind's Eye" from like 1991 or some time around then. Everything is just so angular and lacking in detail. Some of the bullet patterns are absolutely hypnotic and that's a good thing. The bullets are beautiful. But otherwise I find the gameplay in Shikigami to be much more rewarding while still relying on the "buzz" mechanic (rubbing up against bullets for score and power ups). The music is also not horrid yet nothing I can be bothered to remember.
In short, no way is it worth $70 on epay. I'd say that if you're some sort of shooter completist, just hope for a rerelease or a decrease in value.
Of course if you talk to 05Pro, whom I respect greatly, you'll hear a completely different story. He thinks it's great. Diff'rent strokes I guess :)
This just in: XII Stag is the BOMB! I like it as much as DDP DOJ which is also off the charts. Whoever suggested purchasing DDP DOJ is speaking the truth.
It's also true what some intelligent poster above whose name I forget said about having both the Saturn and the PSX for shooters. There are gangs of exclusive shooters for both systems that make it necessary to have both. If ya like shooters anyway:)

Oh! I forgot to mention, I also have Sol Divide.

If you're looking for some older shooters, get just about anything you can find from Compile. Zanac and Gun-Nac (both NES games) are especially good. Anything R-Type is great as well.
Frog: if you're looking for another good psx shmup, try Games Tengoku 2. It's a bit ugly and the game isn't designed as well as the original, but it's still a top notch game.
Has anyone here played Kyukko Tiger 2( i think there's a saturn port?) and Time Bokhan?
I have and it's not a bad shooter at all. I'd recommend it to any shooter fan that can appreciate cute character based shooters.Quote:
