Might I ask why? The closest I've ever heard to someone hating it was Despair having trouble with the controls.Quote:

It just didn't click with me. I understand why people think it's a great game and I wouldn't give it poor scores. I just walked away from it with a bad taste in my mouth.
I suppose it came down to style over substance in this case. The game has some of the best character design I've seen, but it just wasn't entertaining enough to me...
I know of a few people that feel the same, so I'm not a complete freak :)
S&P is brilliant. I rank it among Treasure's best. It's one of those games I always come back to because I have a compulsive need to play it periodically.
I was aware of the differences between (arcade) II and DX, but I always though Raiden Project was just a port of the first game. I may have to track it down now. Not a priority since I'm pretty happy with DX, but eventually.Quote:

The domestic RP doesn't have rotated controls when in tate mode, so you may want to go for the import, if the small differences & Raiden I are enough to warrant a purchase.

*shrugs* Okay. I personally found it to be one of the best games I've ever played, something that got better and better the more I delved into it, but different strokes...Quote:

Raiden Project is definately a must have, as it has Raiden 1 & 2 on it. Of course Raiden 2 is the real reason to own it, but it's a great game for the price.
As for Raiden DX, the last time I played it was at a bowling alley, I loved the game. It wasn't ported to anything besides the Jap PSX, was it?
Excerrent!Quote:

Also, if you have a Famicom converter, look for Crisis Force.
Count me in as another guy not head-over-heels crazy about Mars Matrix. There's nothing aesthetically appealing about the game (graphics, sound, music, the most annoying and most unreadable intro screen EVER -- you name it, it's all poor imo) and it WILL whoop a n00b's ass into the ground.
That said, I am getting better at other modern shooters (the shooters I actually like, such as Strikers 1999, Ikaruga, Battle Garegga) and am learning to dodge streams of enemy dots better thanks to Mars Matrix, so I don't regret the purchase at all. There's nothing wrong with the actual gameplay, and its high difficulty is reason enough (for me anyways) own and keep the game. And yes, the unlockable system and features are wonderful.
Thanks again. :DQuote:

something i always see rookies do when they start off playing shooters is they play it like they have parkinson's disease. they're moving their ship constantly and franctically when they don't need to. this results in running into a bullet that wouldn't have hit them in the first place.
my advice is to relax and let the game come to you. this is just repeating what cigs mentioned, but it should be mentioned again --- move only when you have to. also, if you panic or start stressing, you'll just end up over-exaggerating your movements and getting yourself killed.
Don't stay in the back of the screen and think you can dodge every bullet that comes your way, thanks to your above average hand-eye coordination, either.
I learned that the hard way.
