Shooter Noob

I think i have seen Mobil Light force in the stores.the box art was horrid.but is it really a good game.I see the japan title and was wondering if its the same one that cam to japanese XBox a while back and was the only Box game to place in the japan top 10.and does anyone have any screens of the game.

And if your looking for a good Genesis shooter let me recommend my fave.Lightning Force/Thunder Force 4.GREAT GAME.i havn't been able to beat it on insane yet.its really challenging.and is the best example of helpfull slowdown i have ever seen.

Hey Tragic, I can't be sure because I read half of this thread yesterday and half today, but I don't think shmups was linked once in here. Here it go: www.shmups.com That place (the forum especially) is a treasure trove of shooting game mania. Lots of people who know lots about the shootey games over there. Also it seems that noone's mentioned a couple of US PS2 shooters that I like. They are: Gradius 3&4 and Silpheed TLP. Silpheed gets slated all the time but I find it to be beautiful in the graphics department and quite fun as well. I also can't remember if anyone mentioned Thunderforce V for Playstation but come to think of it, I don't even know if you own a PS1 or PS2. That's what I get for having a short attention span and zero short term memory ;) Have fun!

Haha! I remember their summary of the review in following issues: "Too hard and too short - bad combination." Actually, difficult and short is the way to go.

Gunbird 2 is my favorite shooter and I highly recommend it, even if you're a beginner (like I was when I bought it, I got really addicted to it, I just couldn't get past stage 3).

mobile light force 2's box art makes it look like a charlie's angels game. it is a cool game, though, and i'd like to thank those who suggested it.

Thanks man. Someone linked me to that in the begining of the thread but I didn't check out the forums yet.

I'm trying to have fun and was until I got the the thrid level of Ikaruga. The begining is impossible!

Looks like I'm going to be on a shooter shopping spree next time. From what I'm gathering(barring japanese PS2 shooters) these are some good choices:

Gunbird 2
Mars Matrix
Ikaruga(GC)
Mobile Light Force 2

Shooters do indeed rock and this seems to be a board that embraces them like no other (except for those dedicated like shmups of course).
I don't have much to add except that try to pick up every new release that comes your way (unles it totaly blows) since you'll probably have a hard time getting ahold of it in a couple of years or to a inflated price.

Don't forget to import Zero Gunner 2 for the Dreamcast as well...if you don't have it already. Its a great game. Its a bit easy, but that makes it good for beginners.

Although, make sure that Mars Matrix is your top priority. Its ugly as all hell, but to this day I still choose to play it over any other shooter.

My favorite shooter and game in general is Soukygurentai, simply the best!!!
Available only on the Jap Saturn...worth the price.

MAME also got some really nice stuff if you dont want to invest in the SS or a JAMMA board, Batrider, Battle Bakraid, DoDonpachi, Gunbird all avialable on emulation.
