So I've pretty much decided that next paycheck I'll be buying some Dreamcast "shmups" off of VGD. Those will be: Bangio, Gunbird 2, and Mars Matrix.. and maybe Zero Gunner 2. From what I'm hearing though, the first three I listed are really hard? Maybe I should buy them now (whle they're still available) and keep plugging away at Ikaruga. Level 2 isn't kicking my ass quite as badly now (although I can't chain it for shit). Level 3 on the other hand.... that's defeatable? Umm... :blank: ... :bs: ?
Oh yea, I would hesitate... No, completely refrain from calling Bangai-O a shooter. Sure, you shoot stuff... But it's far from anything other games in the category. Still a good game, though... But whatever. Just a small peeve.
If you ever get that SS, make DoDonpachi your number one priority. It's unlike anything else. Fantasmiclatic.
Zero Gunner 2 is one of the easiest shooters of all time if that's what you're looking for. Gunbird 2 is great fun and Mars Matrix has insane replay value.
as paradoxical as this may sound, i think ikaruga and mars matrix are easier than other shooters. while initially intimidating, the shield gameplay in both games give you a bit of an advantage, especially in mars matrix. i can beat ikaruga with 3 credits regularly (and 1 if it's a good day), and i can beat mars matrix with 1 life on a good day. chaining for points, however, is a different story.

As for the DoDonpachi... I hope to get a Saturn within the next few months. Just too many things to buy... and I'm saving for a new car too... :sweat:
Saturn will be the best shooter investment youll ever make, and ClickStick I heard the PS version of Souky ate the ball sack. Strangely enough I prefer the PS version of DoDon and Strikers....
The ps1 has loads of shooters that the saturn doesn't have and vice versa. Both of their shooter libraries complement each other.
The ps1 has Compile, Irem, Cave, and Seibu better represented while the SS has Raizing, Psikyo, Treasure, and Technosoft games.
Good call on the Bangai-o.
It is a shooter-puzzle game hybrid, but tons of fun and one of my fave games on the ole DC.
I got Internal Section today. Neat kinda trippy Gyruss clone, sorta reminscent of N2O or Tempest 2000
