adaware?
yeah, anyway, where can i pick up some ad-aware for myself??
they have a site right, i'm just too lazy to search. :evil:
I don't know anything about that, but could it be with windows message service? Are you on a windows machine w. a broadband connection and no firewall?
I believe that is Windows Messenger. Did you try disable the "Start with windows" option there? If you did and it still pops up, check your antivirus settings. I had Norton AV set to guard Messenger, even though I don't use the program. So Messenger would start and say, "Protect me, please!" Pretty annoying. I am not sure if Norton was starting it up or Windows was considering it "in use," thus giving it license to initiate.
As a last-ditch effort, go to Run from the Start Menu and type in msconfig. Go to the Startup tab and uncheck any programs you know for a fact you don't need to start with Windows. Be careful. I am not responsible for you screwing up your system,
Go to www.lavasoft.de if you'd like to try AdAware. It's pretty good IMHO.
Also check www.spywareinfo.com and check their Privacy Software page while you're there... they've also got a link to Spybot Search & Destroy.
Start-->Settings-->Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Services-->Messenger: Stop the service.
Yes, yes. Forgot about the ol' msconfig.Quote:

Thank God and thanks for your help.
1. Click on My Computer and open the control panel.
2. Open the Performance and Maintenance or Administrative Tools.
3. Double-click on Services, and scroll down to Messenger.
4. Double-click Messenger and click the Stop button which will stop the service.
5. Change the startup type to Disable.....no more Messenger popups.
?
By the way, BlackViper.com is a ridiculously useful site if you want to find out what all those Services actually do. I used it last year to figure out which of the little buggers should be shut down. It's what the Web should be . . . and he looks like my dad did at that age. Cool!
