The trick courses are so much easier than the races for me it's not even funny. I can "combo" just about all the trick courses, so I think the platinums won't be too tough...Quote:

Board presses are easy. Just hold the right stick up or down and you'll press. When you let go you'll board as normal. You don't have to hold it all the way to the jump, just keep an eye on the combo meter. If you can press to about the base of a jump (not even that close) let go, then charge your jump and prewind and you'll start a combo easy. Same with rails. Just get close and slide on through (you can even nose or tail press a whole rail if you can balance it). It's all timing and it's pretty easy. My best is a combo of 41. Also, this is where handplants come in handy. Board pressing is a good, if boring, filler, but I like using handplants to get up on adjacent rails, and then land on them for more trickness. I haven't used them too much for getting to higher pipes...still need to work on that.
Also, do all characters have identical stats when maxed-out?

Your combo counter goes up 2 on rails, and only 1 on board presses, not to mention points so it's always good to hit rails.

i noticed that the small clock next to the combos still add if you stop a move and continue it after.I thought you needed some immediate chaining. I pulled off a 54Xcombo by doing that last night, seems cheap but it opens many more possibilities. Now i'm trying for the 100X combo.
I almost combo'd peak 1...ended up doing it in two combos, not bad for my first try.
I can combo the peak 1 freestyle courses like nobodies business.
Just going the mountain for 15 minutes is fucking insane. Game surpassed my expectations 2 fold. What's also noticeably great about this game is it's length and freedom. You can roam around doing whatever you wish [the Dj says it himself, not me] and also the art/tricks/ hidden characters you can buy cost way too much, making you come back for more. Meaning you're going to have to play every character through to really get the best out of this game, brilliance.
What's everybodies best time down the whole mountain (all 3 peaks)? I just did it in 24:34. My damn hand hurts I've been playing it for so long. I just noticed that when you race down the whole mountain, you only go through Peak 3's backwoods. Kinda weird how you don't go through the other 2.

On Peak 3 I can't beat the Freestyle vs. backwoods score. Psymon wins by 50,000+ points everytime and it's driving me insane. And some of the Big Challenges are straight up insane to do.
Maxed out and finished everything with Mac, now I'm working on Kaori. Just got to peak 2, she's a lot more fun to 'dress up' too. :D
Still haven't combo'd peak 1 yet, but I can easily do it in two combos. :/

hasn't happened to me at all, though i have the ps2 version. if you get stuck on an object for too long, you're automatically transported back to the main course.
the final game is (much?) more polished than the demo.
So...is there any reason to get the PS2 version other then the controller? Cause right now my PS2 is totally fritzing out and not wanting to play any game. Plus, Im getting a magicbox converter thing so I will be able to use my PS2 controller on my xbox. How does that work? Can I map the buttons so it is just like the PS2 version?!

I can't be too sure, but I'd have to agree with this. Griff and Kaori, naturally, seem more oriented for tricks due to their size. The larger characters, such as Moby and Psymon, aren't as capable early on. If there are 'hidden stats' as such, I'd be rather surprised. That's a level of realism I didn't think SSX would ever touch.Quote:

:P so far I've got Kaori's stats to 11.0 on every criteria, bought almost all her clothes and accessories [leaving out 3 board FX] . Bought everything in the Rewards column [art, posters, trading cards, character figures, unlockable characters] all i have left to buy is the Farside Myth who needs 100% in everything. This game is friggin long dude, just mastering one character takes a good 2 - 3 weeks minimum , now do it 9 more times. :|
You've not seen my friend Ty play. Honest to God, he can play twelve hours straight, and phenomenally well. Stats are up to an awesome (but not quite mastered) point in two days. It's insane.Quote:

I always wondered that too. I know I got there in one of the freestyle competitions (I think) but in a race it seems imposable even though I've seen the computer go through there.
You can freeride that course but not freestyle.

I busted this out last night and I still love it as much as the first day I played it.
I think I might like SSX3 more than the last couple of THPS games... :/
I enjoyed the SSX series far more then the THPS ones. I've never really gotten into Tony Underground, but I'm more then happy with SSX3. It killed my Wavebird batteries twice.
I'm still playing it too. I can't beat the 11 minute time down the first peak. I'm like 5 seconds off.

i love this game so much. it kills me that it didn't sell 10 million copies.
one thing bugs me, though: why on earth aren't the races timed to a hundreth of a second? or even a tenth of a second?

I fucking haul ass down that mountain too. After the first leg I"m usually about 25 seconds behind but I make it up in the second level. I can do Metro City in 3 minutes, but when I hit the course I have like 2:50 left. Anyone get all the snow flakes? I don't think I have all of them on any course with all the character's I've built up so far (5).
