I have about $150 to buy either one, and then I'll have money left to buy Ikargua and the new Madonna CD. Which is bettter?!? And which md or mp3 player do you reccomend in that price range?!? How is the battery life?!? How much do the minidiscs cost?!? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
My uneducated opinion says to get an mp3 player... but I don't really know.

I don't know how great minidisc players are by themselves. The recorders are great, I think you can even put mp3s on minidiscs and you can get something like 5 CDs worth on one minidisc. And the mic recordings are quality. I go to a lot of live jazz performances where they really don't care if you record so I love them for that, I don't have one personally but I would love to get one

Pros
-Greater storage capacity than Mp3
-Interchangable media format means you can record tracks and forget about it
-Can record straight to MD from stereos/CD players equiped to handle it
Cons
-Moving parts mean wear and tear and skipping
-Greater chance of losing/misplacing player media (the discs)
-Battery life not that great (make sure you use rechargeables)
MP3
Pros
-No moving parts
-Most Mp3 players come with built-in rechargeables and power cords
-Instant access to songs
Cons
-Low storage capacity for the price range you're asking
-Can't record from source with low end models. Can only dowload from a computer.
-Fidelity dependant on what bit rate Mp3 was recorded at.

I'm no authority... do your research first...
I say minidiscs just based on how bad MP3 compression sounds. Minidiscs still use lossy compression, but it is much better. I can't even listen to an MP3 most of the time....
I love my MD player, and it doesn't even play MP3s. Go for the MD. MP3 players are overpriced garbage.
mp3 is much better.... but even better than both is an cd3/mp3 player, thanks in large part to the super cheap media. I bought my cd3 player for $99u and it's brilliant. The media costs less than a dollar for 200mb discs. Yes it does have moving parts... but I can guarantee you this. You can turn off the anti-skip feature and then shake the player as hard as you can for as long as you want and it won't skip. It's simply impossible to make it skip so it's a non issue. The player is small enough to fit in your hand. There are no drawbacks. It's ideal. :)
