I live in New Haven county. About 15 min. from the city. Since no one ever heard of Ansonia, CT before, I just say New Haven.
Fun Facts:
Ansonia is the birth place of the bicycle in America.
Ansonia used to have serious ties to organized crime in the 1920s and 30s, giving it the nickname: Little Chicago.(not any more though)
Ansonia was the largest producer of laytex foam until a few years ago when the factory burned down. You could see the smoke 150+ miles away on Long Island!
Ansonia has the only housing projects (outside of a major city) in CT.
There was/is HUGE drug activity in said projects. FBI sweeps it out every 10 years or so.
Ansonia is the shit hole of CT. "You're from Ansonia? HA HA!)

You had it right the first time - you do nothing. ;)
I'm a full-time student at the University of Oklahoma. I'm a part-time columnist for the Oklahoma Daily newspaper. (not much, but it pays a few bills) I work for a research group during most of the summer and I help run sociology studies. I'm also an independent filmmaker, which occasionally I'll get a film shown somewhere and make a few dollars. It's more for fun, though.

Bahn- youch.

Well, I'm database consultant/programmer :)
Graphic Arts and Web Design
My main thing is the retailing of videogames. It's certainly interesting owning my own place and I'm very well set up for things like avoiding responsibility and pumping up my library of 16 and 32 bit games (the trade ins). But to be honest I'm getting stir crazy. I used to like to drive around in the desert with the dogs alot.
I also work as a hiphop DJ. I mostly just like to scratch and can't really be bothered to mix. Hence, I rarely work. I mean I'll make some smooth mixes if someone that's paying for them raelly wants me to, but that's basic, boring amateur night shit. You could train a monkey to mix records. I've been invited to tour with my two buddies next month so that'll ease the stir craziness. The band is like this: Otha Major is a wicked amazing human beatbox. I've heard few like him and only Rahzel and his one buddy that he tours with some have proven to be "better". My close friend and neighbor James Whiton is the most serious standup bass player I've ever heard aside from Mingus. So we have a three piece. We played together every week at a club last summer but we've never practiced. And we're not gonna practice before tour. Why not? We don't need to. We're pro like that :)
I also am willing to engage in any soldering project that can be made worth my while. I've rebuilt a couple of very large audio mixing boards and it looks like I have to refurbish the one at Big Sound Productions. Of all my gigs, this sort of thing pays the most for the least amount of work. It's also fun to not work with the public once in awhile.
I've thought about helping people with dog obedience. But I realized that anyone that needs help with a mere dog, I probably don't want to be around.
That's my busy life.
Pa
I'm thinking about doing a little part time gig that will be me working one-on-one with people that have problemed pets (focusing on over aggresive dogs mostly).Quote:

True, people that are bad with their animals really, really annoy me.
But for the most part I'm not doing it for the people, I'm doing it for the pets.
If you can teach people to better handle their pets, they'll in turn treat their pets better, but also any animals they get in the future, as well as sharing the knowledge you give with them with other people.
Not to mention the people I'd work with generally are to the point where it's either get better with their dog, or get rid of it. Which a lot of times means killing the dog because the pound won't take the time to rehibilitate such an animal.
So yea, if you can, do it for the animals, not the people.
Currently I'm a busboy in a resturaunt.
Perhaps the most odd/unique response, and weirdly cool. I love fishing, too.Quote:

"So yea, if you can, do it for the animals, not the people."
This is a coin I've looked at from both sides for a long time. The problem is, I share a backyard with two other people who have dogs. I have three and they both have two. The dogs all get along great. Problem is, my dogs are the only ones that listen and act accordingly. I keep trying to help let these people know how to deal with it and they just cannot get it. The hippie chick just doesn't care and the skinny OG is Mr Anger. Between providing information, advice and occassional babysitting services for these friggin' nincompoops I'm just about public serviced out. I'm currently working on moving :)
Pa
Fair enough.
If you're in a class enviorment for example, the people that are there actually want to get better with there animals, as opposed to your jackass neighbors.
Do it for the kid...err, for the dogs pa!
I'm applying for a job down in the court house - have my interview tuesday :D
Other than that, I do inventory part time as a favor for my dad.

I'm the day & weekend manager of a little independent game shop called Game-Arama. Best retail job I've ever had, it's just me, the owner & a kid who works like 7 hours a week. The owner is a really cool guy who knows his shit when it comes to games and how to run a shop. We have the best sale price to trade ratio I've ever seen and it's working really well. I get to do basically whatever I want when there isn't any customers (something that happens a lot in the mornings & afternoons) so I read a lot and play games sometimes. I live about 3 blocks from the store so I can walk to work or wake up 15 minutes before my shift and not freak out over being late.
Oh, and I make way more than I ever did at EB or Funco/Gamestop with 1/10 the stress & responsibility.
I'm a part-time LifeGuard, and i go to highschool, and i'm applying at the local skate shop this summer.. so lets hope that works out. :D
I'm the delivery boy for a wire & cable manufacturer/distributor called Carlyle Incorporated.
www.carlyle-inc.com
Aside from driving the various company vechicles, I work in the warehouse pulling parts, driving the forklift, and assisting shipping in an effort to make my nine hours a day pass quickly. I plan to go back to school within the next year.

I started making myself more noticeable primarily when I attended E3. I've known a few people at IGN for awhile, so that's essentially where I made my first "gig". Max Bikini was also made available to me through another friend that I know in the industry. ^_^
...just to clarify. you want to edit other people's work? I don't edit, I just write.

One more fun fact about Ansonia:
Some of the most collectable antique clocks were made here. Do a search on Ansonia Clock Company.
Write strategy guides.
Mostly though, I just play games. I'm happier that way ;)
I sell electronics at Sears. When I left at 3 PM, the combined sales total of all 4 sales people working the floor from 10-3 was.. $11.62.
If shit does not come together this weekend, I'm looking for another job as soon as possible.
I just want to write and edit freelance, either is good for me. But I've contacted a number of mags like Play, that new one from EB, and others and haven't gotten anywhere...I currently do freelance for ToyFare mag and that's so much fun so I want to do more stuff like that...if you end up hearing anything about writers or editors needed on a freelance basis, let me know--I can send you samples of my writing and a resume...I'm just trying to make a little extra money on the side and have fun at the same time...Quote:

Out of curiousity, who have you written for where your work is published (at least online)?
I can tell you right off the bat that many of these places aren't going to pick you up for a freelance job because the availability comes and goes, and usually it's for a full-time position where you're expected to relocate. It becomes a matter of being at the right place at the right time (or hearing about something). I can look at a few of your samples, but I can't forward them to anyone. That step has to be saved for you... ;)
I wouldn't also be expecting to make any money either, heh at least immediately - especially without significant experience. One valuable resource that helps a lot of current freelancers is that they possess a debug unit which makes them a valuable asset for any said publication. Though, even for those (like myself) who actually lack the hardware, there are ways around it. It's extremely rare that any outlet will snatch up someone off the rack. Like most places, they usually search from within the industry, or friends knowing a friend knowing a friend...
You should probably start out by writing for some online site or something. Focus on getting exposure from an estalished foundation and then build from there. If you're really good, the money will come later...
Actually Waterbury is the shit hole of CT, Willimantic is gaining ground as well...Quote:

Thanks for the advice. Well, I do full-time PR for Penn State University so there are tons of press releases that I have done online. I also do a lot of feature stories for our print publications and do an online/print newsletter as well. I also do fiction writing and have been published in a few publications. I also have writen for local mags like Voices of Central Pennsylvania and a few others newspapers and such. But I don't want to only be a journalist/fiction writer -- I also want to get into fun freelance, so besides ToyFare (and soon to be Anime Invasion, I hope) I don't write for any other sites/mags...so I guess I just need to write reviews and such for online sites and work from there...can you let me know when there are openings on this site, so maybe I can do some work? I am also good with Web and print design and have lots of programs at my disposal for these purposes...Quote:

how could you NOT eat fish?
Mainly for this reason- you know how when you're a kid people will do that thing with their thumb and make it look like that they pulled it off? You know how when you're a kid you can't tell the difference because, well, you're a kid? Well, my dad had that same idea, except that when he did it it was with a giant fish dripping with slime and gunk. He licked it in front of me. After I had eaten lunch. I puked and puked and for a month later if I was anywhere near a fish I'd get sick. So after that, I kind of cultivated a distaste for fish.
but you dont get sick around them anymore?
Not vomitously sick, but fish is repugnant enough to keep me away.
sad times... I read Hatchet in sixth grade and all I wanted to eat for months was fish, and I still love it... you should read Hatchet.
Grocery store assistant manager/greenhouse manager
I also do art commissions and a few greeting cards for a friend's company. Not a fan of greeting cards though, there's little chance to express your contempt for mankind.
I'm thinking about going back to school for a graphic design degree too (have a BFA in studio art).
