Commuting to school or work.
Does anyone else here take a train or something similar to school or work everyday? I speak not of school busses, kiddies. I take the Long Island Railroad to and from school every day. It's oh-so-much fun, what with trains breaking down constantly and having to get to work back home, too. Why, just today, I have to take 3 hours of public transportation to get to and from Brooklyn from and to Long Island just for a one hour class. Yay! Does anyone else know the horrors of a big ol' commute?
Re: Commuting to school or work.
I used to ride the combo of bus --> subway --> bus to get to school... I did that for about two years. The ride to get to school would take an hour and forty minutes, I'd have one class, then I'd have to make the long hour and forty minute trip back home. It was terrible, uncomfortable, and just really boring.
Then there was that one semester where I dropped a bunch of classes and I tried to make it up by taking summer classes at a different campus... which was an even longer trip!
I usually just slept... or read the paper... sometimes I'd study, but then that's hard with a bunch of other annoying people all around you.
And breakdowns are killer. There was this one hot summer afternoon where the train stopped at every two stations and the driver would announce "This train is now out of service. Please leave the train". I think there was smoke or fire at some station, so I ended up taking something like six different trains to get home from classes. :(
