sphere, don't take offense with the following, I'm just being blunt.
American. Heh.Quote:

Did you know that GM produces alot of its parts and vehicles in Mexico? Jobs that used to belong to Americans are now in Mexico -- imagine that!
Dodge is Chrysler -- or should I say, DaimlerChrysler. In other words, they are no longer American, they are German. Corporate HQ is registered in Stuttgart, Jürgen E. Schrempp is their Chairman.
Bad example. Again, Crysler is teh Deutsch now.Quote:
A good example I always use is the Eagle Talon vs the Mitsubishi Eclipse, both made in the same plant ( a joint project between Chrysler and Mitsu "DiamondStar" ) but yet the resale value is higher on the Eclipse because it's percieved as Japanese.
Well, ok then. We'll put my 1998 Fnord Taurus 6-cylinder up against a 1998 Toyota Camry 6-cylinder.Quote:
Also, check out how much you'll be shelling out in parts for a foreign vs American. How much for an alternator? Keep your f**king Toyota.
Alternators from AutoZone.com
Toyota: Duralast Import 90 Amp - $137.23
Fnord: Duralast 130 Amp - $139.99
You're too late, the industry already sold itself out. It's not the consumers' fault -- that's just the breaks when it comes to capitalism. People got hooked on the imports in the 70s and 80s when our own manufacturers were slacking, which allowed the Japanese, Germans, Koreans and almost everyone else an opportunity to get into the market. From there, they lowered costs by involving Americans in their production processes, which created jobs for Americans.Quote:
It's so heartwarming to know that by the time my kids are grown there probably won't even be an "American" car company left, a once great US industry destroyed by it's own sell-out consumers......
Is this a bad thing?
No, I don't think so. While it's true that we don't own as large a piece of the auto-pie as we once did, we most likely make more money off the industry as a whole now than we ever have before -- so does everyone else. It's part of that globalization of the economy thing that some people seem to hate. I don't see how this can be bad when companies now transcend country borders and become international entities -- everyone makes money. The Japanese pay us to assemble their cars that we sell in our own market -- some of the money from the sale goes to the American branch of the Japanese company and gets recycled back into our economy, while some of the money goes back to Japan. Then the Japanese buy crap from our McDonalds and our Nike and etc., so we get the money back. It's a nice system.
Toyota makes cars in America. Nissan is partially owned by Renault. Mazda is partially owned by Fnord. Most major Japanese car makers have deals with the Americans and Germans. Loyalty.. right.Quote:
We could learn a little bit about loyalty from the Japanese.
Please try to be a little less xenophobic.
Hummers are extremely unsafe, and roll over easily. Oh yeah, they're glorified SUVs, maybe that's why. Whenever I think of Hummers, I think of the now-deceased Brian Pillman, a wrestler who drove a Hummer, had it flip over a few times, and the accident ended up shattering his ankle to the point where it needed to be fused. The man had over a decade of driving experience, and that happened to him. He'd probably driven more in one week than you have in your life so far, and that still happened to him, despite his experience.
Box Drink- health problems= my sight being so shitty that I'm unable to drive. Since I've never been able to drive anyway (except for a brief two week stint in September of last year when my sight was at 20/40, the highest it'd been in a decade, during which I could have passed the sight portion of the driver's test), I've never been too bummed about not driving.
I'd probably be a good driver if I was ever able to drive, since I actually paid attention during the mandatory driver's ed class in HS, and got a 90 overall. Scary thing is that folks with 65s were able to go out and get a license (in theory), while I, with a 90, and some idea of what the fuck I would be doing out there on the road, couldn't.
I'm probably the only SOB on this board that could help this guy. My dad is a Doctor and a military vehical collector. Because of that, ive heard and read some stuff about the Hummvee and the Hummer. But I really don't know if I could talk to you about it in good conscince. I mean, what if you got yourself killed? I'm assuming you are what? 16? Hummers and Hummvees are unruley beast of trucks, and they are not Gods on the road. I know this becasue me and my dad get Military trucks stuck all the damn time. We've managed to get a 2 ton troop transport baried down to the axels in mud before.
And what do you plan on doing IF you get a Humvee? Are you going to be a fag and take that thing to a custome car shop? Are you going to spit on what it was built and used for in the past by having it painted glossy blue or pink, put in leather seats, and a killer sound system? I don't know if I want to play a part in the bastardazation of a truck like that.
And another thing, my dad, despite his money does NOT own a humvee or a hummer. Do you know why? Because he has money sense. He can't see paying about what he owes on our house, for ONE truck.
Ok, i read the first page and got sick of reading your bullshit. I come from a moderately rich family, and theres no way I would take advantage of my parents like this. Granted they have the money to burn, but for fuck sake, think of yourself. When I was 16, I had a 94 grand am, not the crappiest of cars, but not the best of cars. Fuck, it was was a car and I was happy. The going this is bigger is safer, but in all reality, its not. Fuck you know what, get a Hummer. Get in an accident and die, and do us all a favor.
