im gonna get my first bike soon enough. im still somewhat undecided on what to get though.

my dream bike is a 1998 Suzuki GSX-R SRAD

now that is just beautiful. this bike in just about brand new condition will go for about $5k. although i do feel that's very well worth it, i can't stand waiting anymore. and i have no problem getting a bike that's almost as beautiful. the 89 GSX-R.

you can get this bike in great condition for $1-2K. well worth it, and what im still looking for.
although i've been hearing from many people that a GSX-R isn't good to get as a first bike for many reasons (they drop, they're heavy, they're wide). experienced riders only obviously.

another bike im seriously considering getting, if i can find one, is a late 80's Honda VFR. i hear this bike is awesome for a first bike, and it seems like it.

now that's a beautiful cream puff. i'd glady get one of these as my first. beautiful, fun to ride, what more do you want?

still, im pretty sure im gonna go with a sports bike anyways, im sure i'll get the most potential out of my rides on one.

anyways, who else here rides? feel free to post pictures of your bike, stories, whatever. i've noticed all people that ride are very passionate about bikes, and for damn good reason.

My dad has a Susuki, it looks like that 98 one, but I don't know what year it is, I rode it once and it was fun...

I used to own a bike, and I still have my endorsement, even though I don't really plan to ride much anymore. My bike wasn't anything special, but it still beat any car off the line, had amazing mileage, and never wigged out on me once...

The weather here in Oregon isn't so great, so, I figure one winter and one rainy season was enough for me. Plus, I got tired of maniac drivers that never look out for you, smelling like the street, and lugging all my shit with me in a huge backpack. Still, I wouldn't mind getting a bike again in the future when I have money...

now, for the most part, i dig all bikes (although i like Suzuki's the best), but jesus h. christ!!!!! nice job honda!

Yeah, you seem to like the crotch-rockets where you lean really far over the gas tank...I don't really like those. I like to sit a bit more upright (of course, I don't race or anything, and I usually have to carry stuff). Plus, I don't really like the overall "wedge" shape of most sport bikes. Aesthetically, I think some of the Ducati's are the coolest bikes out there:

But, I've driven some sport bikes, my old CB250, and that Yamaha FZ1, and the Yamaha was just too nice. It's not the cooles looking, I suppose, or the biggest, but it fits me well. -I don't really like heavy bikes either (like my father's 900cc Triumph)

...and since I'm not that heavy myself, the smaller bikes are a lot nicer to steer around, jump up on, etc.

Sport bikes are definitely cool, but, I don't think they're as comfortable for just driving around in.

I think bikes are great, and I think it's amazing how quickly you can go for such a relatively cheap amount of money ($10k for sub-4-second 0-60s, basically, with new bikes, right?) However, I think I'm too much of a coward to actually ride on one. Good luck.

Yeah, I know a guy who just about died driving one. He was a mess...the more comfortable you get with motorcycles, the more risks you start taking...my CB250 never had enough muscle to pull anything too crazy, but when you're driving something like Lucas's sport bikes, it only takes a couple seconds to go from controlled to suicidal. I never wrecked or dropped my bike, but it was only a matter of time...I had a few close calls on icey roads, or from oil left on roads after a rain...I figured one of those times, I wouldn't be so lucky, so I called it quits while the statistics were still in my favor.

-oh, and for the record, I took a Safety Course to get my endorsement, which I think helped quite a bit, actually.

it's not so much that i like sports bikes better. like i said, the 74 Honda CB is what got me to fall head over heels in love with motorcycles.

i just feel that i can get the full potential out of a ride in a sports bikes, and chicks dig them to top it off :cool:

and yeah, they're dangerous as fuck. just less then a month ago, my friend almost died on his Suzuki Katana 600 GSX.
car in front of him slams on their breaks, he slams on his, fish tales, crashes, flys off his bike, lands were the on coming traffic is, and bam, gets run over. stays under the car for about 15 minutes before they finally get it off him (stupid fuck backs up and drags him a bit before realizing how bad of an idea that was).

anyways, luckily my friend only broke an arm, and nothing else.

the way i always saw it was, if i ate shit, the results would be one of three things.
death - can't really complain can i?
vegtable/paralyzed - well, at that point, i mean, what am i really gonna bitch about?
break a bone - it can heal, big deal.

but once my friend got in his accident, i go and hear about shit like 'crush bone'.
pretty much what that is, is when a car tire runs over a body part. you pretty much loos that party of your body, nothing they can do about it. the end.
see, i'd hate to be alive without a leg, or an arm, that's just not fuckin worth it if you ask me.

im thinking i might go with the late 70's CB or maybe even late 70's Suzuki GS just so i can feel safer. and like FuryFox said, chances are a lot less (although the risk is always there).

I ride a 2003 BMW F-650 CS. Got it for under 10K and I love the thing. The weather has been a little on the HOT side down here in Florida... :(

the CBR is a fine bike, my da owns one and he really loves it. I really want a Hayabusa, but I don't think it would be a good first bike as all my exp. is on a scooter :)
