Transformers: The movie
8/10. I grew up on that movie. It's cheesey as hell, but that's part of it's charm.
The Big Lebowski
10/10. One of my absolute favorites.
Meet the Feebles
8/10 Very good Peter Jackson spoof. Not as good as Braindead or Bad Taste, but good overall.
Legend.
Legend is a classic, it held the record for the longest shooting schedule for a long time. Tim Currey is great, but its still a really campy movie.
6/10 for classic-appeal
Magnolia
Magnolia is a work of genius. Excellent storytelling and truly heartfelt performances. Unfortunately it came out in 1999, a year when so many other great ones came out. 9/10
Eyes Wide Shut
Eyes Wide shut, weird film, annoying as hell music score, strange group sex censored and all, which was lame, and other bizzare behavior, never quite figured it out. Overhyped though. 6/10
- Empire of the Sun
Empire of the Sun: A somewhat memorable film, but grows pretty repetitive. Adapted by one of my favorite playwrights, Tom Stoppard, and avoids being silly like Speilberg's earlier drama, The Color Purple. (7/10)
The City of Lost Children
7.5/10
Mortal kombat
If not for RE, MK would have been best video game to film adaptation. While not a high art, MK is pretty entertaining. Cool special fx, some very decent fights(done before HK choreographers were working in US) and cool soundtrack. I give it 8/10. You Soul Is Mine :p
The Crow.
Sweet movie, very enjoyable; 9/10
Return Of the Jedi
Return of the Jedi 7.5/10. I'd call it the third best Star Wars movie behind Empire and ANH.
The Matrix
I enjoy RotJ more than most people and don't really understand the hate. Jabba was great and the moments with Vader and Luke at the end and the way everything was brought to an end was just fine in my book. 9/10.
Scarface.
Good, but way, way, way overrated. Al Pacino is cool, but he overacts the fuck out of any role he comes into contact with.
There are a bunch of good scenes in it, but the whole movie doesn't exactly congeal - like Full Metal Jacket.
7/10
Caddyshack.
Hilarious movie. Any movie Bill Murray is in is good by default. I'm not a big Rodney Dangerfield fan though. 8/10Quote:

Luc Besson's "The Professional"
Ghost Dog
Ghost Dog: Decent movie. The main character was cool, but the gangsters were so stupid and cheesy.
Shawshank Redemption
10/10 that movie will never, ever be boring or old...
The Last Good Friday
Shawshank: Very good. I hate Tim Robbin's, but a solid movie with no flaws that I can think of. 9.5/10.
Office Space.
10/10. Office space is one of the greatest comedies ever.
Lantana, or if you haven't seen it, Insomnia.
Which Insomnia? Original or remake?
Original: 7/10 because I found it very depressing at the time
Remake: 8/10 because I saw it in a theatre and that will always tilt my rating higher. Also, I really liked the way sleep deprivation was portrayed. Pacino falling asleep while driving was the closest cinematic approximation to the real thing I've ever seen.
The Conversation with Gene Hackman.
By the way, how does this work if you've never seen the movie? Do you just wait until the last post is a movie you've seen?
Yes Ichabod, thats how I would do it. For example I havent seen The Conversation so Im gonna step aside and pass the torch...
I doubt many people have seen The Conversation, so instead I'll just nominate movies that are hard to assign number values to. Of course, someone will just come along and say "it was OK" and give it a 6 or 7.
Apocalypse Now
I was just going to do that, actually. I tried paying attention to it, but I got bored later on. I should see it again.Quote:

Apacolypse Now-9/10 Charlie don't surf.
Pearl Harbor
3/10 - Pretty much just utter trash.
American Psycho

Alright, Alright 8/10 shishQuote:

American Psycho just wasn't my kind of movie. It was alright for what it was, though.
Natural Born Killers.
Predator 2
predator 2, 4/10 nowhere near as good as the original, danny glover isn't my kind of action star
Frank Herbert's Dune (Remake)
If we're talking the SciFi Channel remake, then 9/10. Children of Dune was amazing as well.
Metropolis (B&W)
I would just like to say that while City of Lost Children was pretty and all, it put to me sleep faster than any sleeping pill ever could.
I change my answer back to 7.5/10.
Attack of the Clones
Good ending but laaaaaaagged as all fuck in the beginning. Six out of 10, slightly dissapointed. I didnt like the fact that Darth Vader was a whiny whore, but the ending was badass. Too bad the whole film couldnt be like that.
Half-Baked.
A movie about pot smoking that's actually good. Dave Chapelle is the man. Bob Sagat as well. :)
American Beauty
9\10 - I thought it was a great movie.Quote:

X-Men sucked, it was so hokey, the only saving grace was Patrick Stewart, every one and everything around him sucked. 7/10
Fight Club
X-Men: Rather than embrace the comic's roots, they try to make it hip, modern and makes the whole thing cheesier than comic books. Director Brian Synger is also pretty inept at directing action sequences; he's not able to work around Wolverine's CG claws (so Hugh Jackman mostly stands around looking like he just took a cold shower, with an occasional burst of hand movements) and nobody does anything except float, fly, or growl at each other. Synger should go back to calmer material where everything needed is already in the script (i.e. Usual Suspects). 4/10
(Regus beat me to X-Men critique)
Fight Club: Self-righetous movie that's pleased as punch to just deliver 'deep' one-liners and quotables. Retracts everything it says in the end and seems to make no stance on the 90 minutes it just showed you. Like many movies today: pretty to look at and very exciting, but has nothing relevant to say. 6/10
MEAN STREETS or BRINGING OUT THE DEAD
Bringing out the dead: Pointless movie that just spins it's wheels and goes nowhere. I did like Cage's portrail of an insomniac, or whatever problem he had. 3/10
Snatch
Snatch: A fun, explosive movie, much more tightly wound movie than its boring spiritual counterpart Lock, Stock, etc. Excellent choice on making charismatic Jason Statham as lead character. It is pretty shallow but at least it pulls no punches about it, with characters that are full of color and fast pacing you can practically snap your fingers to. (7.5/10)
THE BIG BLUE or THE FIFTH ELEMENT
Not a single bad thing I can say about this film. One of my favorite fun films. The colors, the customs, the sets. All wonderful.Quote:

Igby Goes Down or Secretary.
I saw this for the first time around half an hour ago. I was really impressed. I was expecting a shitty romance movie, but was pleasantly suprised. I think they go a bit overboard with the symbolism though.Quote:

as I fucked the order up, Just rate Igby Goes Down or Secretary.
Igby Goes Down: Good movie, not great. I enjoyed watching it, but something about it just felt average. 7.5/10
True Romance
Pretty good crime drama. Good script by QT, great ansamble of actors, some decent action scenes, and Dennis Hopper playing the most normal character in the film. 9/10 for me.
Dark City.
Dark City is a very well-made sci-fi film, with some almost anime-style influences. Fantastic imagery and direction by Alex Proyas, and great atmosphere esp. during the sleep sequences. A personal favorite. 9/10
Jacob's Ladder
JL is one of my favorites. Interesting story, great imagery, especially hell like visions, good actor performances. Reminds me to look for dvd of it. 9/10
Prince of Darkness.
heh - I don't find Prince of Darkness to be a very well-done film, and yet I find myself watching it every few months. I suppose it's got a strange kind of creepy magnetism to it. 7/10
(Despair - I got JL DVD for $10 new @ Borders. Got some very cool deleted scenes...definitely track it down. It's aged very very well)
The Ninth Gate
I give the Ninth Gate a 7.8/10. I don't like the style.
Sphere
Sphere - 3/10
Man, I thought this thing was going to be fantastic w/ the actors. Too bad it sucked, especially compaired to the awesome book, one of my favs from MC.
Adventures in Babysitting or Attack the Gas Station (if ya seen it)
Adventures in Babysitting - fun movie that's suprisingly entertaining. Not much else to say on the matter. 7/10
Resevoir Dogs
Extremely overrated, and boring. Haven't seen it for years though, so maybe it deserves another shot.
Shower or Better Off Dead
better off dead (if I'm thinking of the right movie) is hilarious, I can remember watching it when I was little and thinking it was the funniest movie ever. Especially when he tries to hang himself then decides not to but is forced into it by his mom. Classic. 8/10
stand by me
Stand by Me:Classic film that never gets old, but then again, the same can be said of any film featuring one of the Coreys. 9/10
Requiem for a Dream
Requiem for a Dream is good. Kinda overrated though. Still it has some wild storytelling and camerawork, it just didnt click with me. I realize it did with a lot of people, so I would give it an 8/10, which is certainly good, but I know Aronofsky has better movies in him (which is saying a lot).
So what makes Ninth Gate a 7.8, as opposed to a 7.9, 8.0, 7.7 or 7.6?Quote:

Dog Day Afternoon.
requiem for a dream-one of my favorite films, fantastic score, fantastic acting, a masterpiece. The only film I can think of that has one of the Wayans brothers actually acting well. 9/10
Kazaam
I give it a 5.2/10, didn't like.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Megatron's Mysterious Brain.Quote:

TMNT - Great adaptation of the comic, minus blood. I liked it a whole lot as a kid, and I love it now. 9/10
Hey! Get back here! Now pick a movie for someone to rate.
Screw it, I'm skipping Yellerdog's pick.
Rate Zu Warriors or Brotherhood of the Wolf
Brotherhood of the Wolf. Very fun mix of period, action, horror and martial arts genres. Cool action scenes, great fights, Mark Dacasscos make this film quite entertaining. One of my favorites last year. 9/10 for me.
Drive.
Oh my god, I haven't seen this movie and I'm a movie nut HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.....oh well, tell me the plot despair.
Alien
Drive, starring Mark Dacasscos is one of the best US made martial arts films. While the storyline not groundbreaking, the fight scenes are excellent.
Here is IMDB page:
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0116147
Alien. While that I agree its a great film, and was truly groundbreaking for the time of its release, I personally prefer other films in the series over it. Still, good direction by Riddley Scott, Sigourney Weaver is great as Ripley, Giger creature designs are top notch and so are the special fx. Its a classic film, but not my favorite. 8/10.
The Killer.
Interesting, I give Drive a 6.9/10. I would give it a 7, but I haven't seen it.
For the other movie a 8/10
Aliens
9/10
THEY'RE IN THE WALLS!
Maximum Overdrive.
7/10
Alien 3
I personally like it alot. I like its style and its atmosphere of doom and despair. Fincher did a good job directing(even if he inst very happy with the final cut), Ripley is good as usual, creature fx are nice, and if Ressurection wasnt made, it would have been good finish for the trilogy. 8/10
Blade.
david fincher is an awsome director, and I think alien 3 is the second best of the series, definate 8/10
Logan's Run or To Kill a Mocking Bird
Blade is a pretty good "no-thinking" movie, just action, I like the second one more 6/10
Now do my above choices
Stand by me- 8/10
Kazzam-5/10
Predator
Logan's Run: I hate assigning numbers so I'll just say that I enjoyed it. A cool idea of what the future could be, of course, now that I'm thirty I would have been sent to Carousel. Sucks to be me.
Near Dark
Predator: Fucking incredible movie, one the best things to come out of the 80's. This is one of those movies that NEVER gets old, it's one of those movies that when it comes on tv, you drop what you are doing and watch it. Then there's the fact that the Predator itself is one of the coolest aliens ever, not to mention all the wonderful quotes in the film. 10/10
Near Dark: Never heard of it.
Phone Booth
Regus, Never heard of Near Dark?
Its somewhat of cult classic film. Its a vampire story, where they dont mention vampires. Its almost a modern western about family of outlaws/drifters. Its a love story that survives against the odds. Its all fun film, with great performances by Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton, very cool direction by Kathryn Bigeloy(sp). Definately one of the best vampire films, and one of my favorites. 9/10.
I havent seen Phone Booth, but I'm very intersted in it. I will rent it when it comes out on dvd.
I give Phone Both a 6.5/10
Predator 2
7/10. The voodoo man/wet street scene is my favorite from that movie. :D
Alien Resurrection
alien resurrection, definately the worst of the alien films, not horrible, but I thought it had annoying editing and less than stellar acting, Jean-Pierre should stick to movies like city of lost children. 5/10
by the way, predator 2 was already done.
mother night
Haven't heard of it.
Terminator
Utter classic, despite the Harlan Ellison paralells. My favorite gritty sci-fi movie right next to the first three Alien movies.
This Island Earth
Um, just did it guy.
Back to the Future III.
pretty good. more of a horror movie than the others. 7/10
Battle Royale
Battle Royale 8/10
Sit down and hold on for the ride of your life. Once this movie gets started its a mad dash to the finish with some fantastic characters (Kitano) a horrific scenerio (killing your classmates) and some seriously powerful scenes/deaths. The lighthouse scene is one of the most amazing scenes I have ever seen. It is set up so well and the psychology of what is happening just supplements the absolute CARNAGE that happens. A very well made film, beautiful at times with a nice score to match. The book is even better with much more character background and even more violence (it gets really crazy at times).
The Exorcist
10/10, very creepy, did you know that people actually died when filming The Exorcist.
The Mummy
6/10 Hokey action movie.
When my dad saw the Exorsist in theaters the guy in front of him had a seizure right when the girls head turned around. Intresting things.
The Omen
Never seen The Omen. Last one in the list that I've seen is Back to the Future III, which I have to give a 5/10. I enjoyed some of it, and it didn't annoy me, but it wasn't that great.
Life is Beautiful.
Missed it.
The Omen - Cool flick, though it's been a long time since i've seen it. Lots better than it's sequel(s?). 7/10
Buzz Box
6/10
The Mummy Returns
I thought Mummy Returns was a lot worse than the first. I really loved the first and they just made the sequel way too unbelievable and I hate the rock. 6/10
Shanghai Noon
9/10
Star Wars: Empire Strikes back
Best of the star wars films so far. And undoubtedly will remain the best after episode three bombs. 9/10
Conspiracy theory
8/10, very interesting
Star Trek: Nemesis
Nemesis: 7/10. a solid film, but a few plot holes. good ending though. "Ramming Speed!"
The Abyss
I'm not sure if megatron is being honest here...
The Abyss - A great movie, though it drags on quite a bit. 7/10
Resident Evil
Not many movies scare me; Resident Evil scared me. 7/10.
8 1/2.
8 1/2: Despite the strong screen presence of one of my favorite actors, Marcello Mastroianni, some excellent photography, and a wonderful ending (Fellini knows how to end his movies), the rest can get boring or too self-indulgent (even for Fellini). 7/10
ANNIE HALL or HOLLYWOOD ENDING
X2
For which one? Sheesh, you should be prohibited from your own thread.
megatron, don't even bother posting any more, if you haven't seen the movie, just wait and post on the next one. The point of this thread is to hear other people opinions of films, not just a numerical score. You're not even trying to fool people anymore, you just put 8/10-and didn't even specify which of the films you're talking about. Jesus
I can pretty much assure you he never saw Buzz Box. Rarest of the rares. :D
It's my thread pal.Quote:

Spiderman
9/10...
fun flick
Glitter
You must be kidding. I give the movie a 2/10, the 2 is for the hot babe; Maria Carey.
For it being your thread you sure as hell suck at it. Lear to reccomend a movie...it isnt hard. Here, Ill pick one for you.
Bullitt
Why should I see this movie?
