Todai
While visiting Chicago, I went to lunch at a rather nice restaurant called Todai in Schaumburg's Woodfield Mall.
Their lunch price was $12.95... not bad at all for what you get. Sushi? There's a load of different kinds there- unagi (eel), salmon (sake), and more. The hot bar has plenty of items like teriyaki, gyoza, siumai, and udon (noodles). Also on offer are some good Japanese salads. You definitely won't see a lack of choices here.
There's a dessert bar with some stuff such as green tea cake, blueberry cake, and more.
Todai is a buffet, but the food quality is leagues above your usual one. The name is Japanese for "lighthouse". California has its fair share of locations.

Sounds cool, I think I would enjoy it. IF your ever in NE Ohio, stop at Beuhlers in Medina, and go in to get some great sushi for less than 10 bucks ^.^

There are a ton of Todais in Southern California. Its a great place to eat if you like sushi and seafood and want a whole lot of it. Also look out for Onami which is just like Todai (they even replaced a todai in my area).

I don't know if all the branches are similarly priced but it sounds like the Chicago branch is cheaper.
Todai's is ridiculously overpriced for dinner. The food is OK, good for a buffet I guess... but then again, you rarely pay 20+ for a buffet place. The last time I went there, with a dinner, drink, small tip and tax, the whole thing was like 30 bucks.
The only time to go is when it's your birthday. Then you eat free. :D

Yeah, Todai is really expensive over here so I've only eaten there once. It was pretty alright but I think I expected more.
And there are tons in Southern California X___X Whenever I go down there and it's time to get the asian food on, I always end up going somewhere like Nice Cafe XD!!

^ Seriously, Todai's is nice once in awhile... I'm in Northern Cali and there's better places than Todai's to get my sushi cravings in...
But really, take one trip to Vancouver and anyone would be turned off Todai's forever :D

i'm in northern california as well, and the todais up here are around $25 per person. they do have lobster, so i guess i can swallow the high price. however, i never eat too much in one meal, so going to buffets is a waste for me.

Just as a note, Todai's doesn't serve lobster everyday. Currently they only do it on weekends for dinner and weekdays and weekend lunches at their discretion. In any case, they use like the worst lobster... they're more like very big, overcooked shrimp rather than any lobsters I've ever had :D

<-----realises more than ever he has to get out of this shitty town and get to big city livin....

There's one in a mall really close to me. I live in northern California. It's good. I really like eel sushi... it just has a nice texture and taste to it.
Although eating there kind of bothers me... I mean that food could have been sitting there for 6 hours in the open air. Eh whatever as long as the ebi tastes good. :)
