Still the 2nd most painful experience of my life.

I was put to sleep during my surgery. I woke up 45 minutes to an hour later, and my wisdom teeth were gone. Then there's the vicodin... Make sure you crush it up and snort it off someone's ass. It won't work, otherwise.

Vicodin has no effect on me at all. Morphine, however, now THAT's the good stuff. I'm hoping I don't have to get my wisdom teeth pulled, as it sounds painful.

Yeah, my wisdom teeth weren't that big a deal. I was all kinds of drygged up. Just don't ever have to have an extra tooth removed from the roof of your mouth. THAT sucks, I know.

Well, it all depends on if they're coming in straight and just take up too much room in your mouth or if they're coming in crooked, and if so, how badly crooked thay are. It also depends if they've broken through the skin yet or not. I had all 4 out last year (three were impacted, one VERY much so), and man, it was not fun, but not horrible, either. Mine had come through the skin, but at really weird angles. I stayed awake for the whole thing- I have a thing about being put asleep. I just had a shitload of novicane. Two of the teeth just popped right out (top and bottom right)- I was amazing by how quick and easy it was. But then the other two...oh, man. One (bottom left) the doctor had to drill into sections and remove piece by piece, because he couldn't pull it out. That sucked. The other one (top left) required some drilling as well, but it wasn't as bad. But that one tooth took forever. The whole thing took just under an hour. If none of your teeth give the doctor any problems, you'll be out faster. The doctor will then stitch up your bottom gums (stitches out in a week), but usually not your top, since the way your mouth is shaped it naturally pushes the top holes where your top wisdom teeth used to be closed. You'll be given a perscription for an antiboitic and a painkiller (usually hydrocodone or oxycodone), stuff your mouth with gauze, and sent home. You'll have to change the gauze in your mouth every half-hour or so, to soak up the blood. And you'll want to put in that perscription ASAP, unless the doctor hooks you up on the spot (some dentists can do that). You'll also have to start icing your face constantly for the first 24 hours to prevent some of the swelling, but no matter what you do your face will probably blow up like a balloon. That was the worst part for me. It took me about 2-3 weeks before my face returned to it's original shape- until then, I kinda wanted to avoid the public eye, since it looked like I was chewing on a golf ball (the side with the problem tooth was swollen much worse than the other). Nothing but soft and mushy food for a few days, and you'll have to rinse your mouth constantly with warm salt water because you can't brush, and since you don't want food trapped in the healing wounds, because that could cause an abcess (the wound heals with food stuck inside, and it gets infected). Rinsing with salt water also helps the swelling. However, you can't start the rinsing for the first 24 hours (no spitting allowed)- just use ice. After 24 hours, the ice won't do much good anymore, so you can start rinsing. Don't use straws to drink, as sucking on a straw creates suction in your mouth that can cause your wounds to bleed. Don't excercise for a few days, since the increased blood flow may interfere with your wounds healing also. Also, no brushing your teeth for a few days, either. Basically, you'll probably feel like crap right afterwards if it's a difficult surgery, but I delt with it fine. The surgery itself sucked, but I recovered very quickly and pain wasn't a problem. Some people say the painkillers knocked them totally out, but they didn't do a thing to me- I suppose I have a high resistance to that stuff. I was up and around and doing stuff in no time, though the swelling DID piss me off. However, you're smart for getting all 4 out at once like I did- no sense in drawing it out. I had all 4 of mine pulled out at once...all I remember was getting those hurtful metal props put in my mouth, breathing in that lovely fuzzy gas and then...he's done and I have a mouth full of stitches. The only two pieces of advice I can give you is (1) make sure you breathe in real deep...because I don't think you want to wake up when he's opening your gums and hacking away at your back teeth (YOWCH), and don't mess with the stitches (it's real tempting). If you do, you'll have holes back there for a while.

I was bleeding like a stuck pig. Man, I used an ASSLOAD of guaze. Also, my painkiller wore off right after I woke up the next day after the surgery. The pain was INCREDIBLE.

Also, according to my wife, I was so out of it, I was singing Christmas carols in the waiting room. :lol:

Had 'em pulled when I was 15 or 16. Getting drugged up was fun, as was spitting blood. Didn't hurt that much at all, plus I got days off school. The worst thing for me was how food gets stuck in the holes, and this weird meaty taste I got whenever I touched the holes with my tongue.

Well I was with my mother visting the Dentist talking about the procedure and I had two options.

1. local anesthetic
or
2. I getting knocked out with gas

Since 1 was the cheaper option that was the one I got. The most painful part was when they injected the anesthetic with the huge needle into my gums. And since the area where they inject the SIX shot was by a nerve I sometimes felt an electric shock. After that they procedure took about an hour to slice open the gums and take them out. Afterwards they stuffed tons of guase in my mouth and I went home to eat some mash potatoes and take a nap for about four hours and after that while my mouth still was kinda sore I felt good as new and even went out that same night. So in the end it was slight discomfort but nothing too bad at all.

I've had mine pulled (all four at once, thank goodness) and it's not much fun. What did I say when I realized the time had come to get mine pulled? Try "Oh shit".

I was knocked out totally for the operation, so I don't remember jack of it. The anesthesiologist oversedated me prior to the operation- when I came to I was in a condition like station82o. My vision was so blurred I was seeing multiple images. I was rolled out in a wheelchair with my mouth full of cotton and the taste of blood. Although I had gone in the morning, I didn't head home until about 7PM.

The doctor prescribed Vicodin; while the pain was pretty bad, it never caused me to resort to using the pills. I took nothing but good old Tylenol.

After the operation, I could eat only pudding, applesauce, and similar fare for a little while.

My condolences to 88 on needing his jaw broken for his operation... fuck, that's got to hurt. Going through a standard wisdom tooth removal procedure is enough of a bitch on its own.
