When was the last time you went to an Arcade?

I'll spare everyone the whole "I remember when.." sob story about arcades since we've all heard it. Still sad tho. :(

I'd have to say the last time I spent any amount of time in arcades was around the time of Killer Instinct. I'm not sure why I liked the game so much (maybe cuz everyone else was playing it), but I remember going just about everyday down the street to the local arcade (which is now a meadow...) and seeing how big of a combo I could get off. I'd have to say I played it pretty religiously for about a year or year and a half until the SNES version came out. That was the last time I ever set foot in an arcade other than for an hour or so after a movie or whatnot.

I'm planning on returning this July as often as possible to play SNK vs. Capcom Chaos. I miss the feeling of a first hand ass-whoopin. :p

What's your story? Do you plan on going back anytime?

The last time? Hmm, our arcade has been shit for a while now, so I'd have to honestly say, I last went and played about 8/9 months ago.

They took out 3rd Strike Alpha 2, and got CvS1. That's about it. No chance for CvS2. Nothing but simulators and quick thrill games now.

Now, several month since my last playing session, and nothing has changed, it still has the same games. Just things have been shuffled around.

During Spring break I spent about $60 on DDR 7th Mix and Soul Calibur 2 in an arcade at Erie Penn.'s Splash Lagoon.

Honestly? The last time I spent money at an arcade had to be about 2 or 3 years ago. I go to one of my local arcades every few weeks because I have a friend who refuses to believe that no one gives a fuck about Marvel vs Capcom 2 anymore. I don't get most recent releases in my area, so its all old shit I'm tired of.

I just went to one yesterday. It's hard to escape the multitude of GGXX#Reload machines. I even got to play Mocap Boxing once again.

About a week and a half ago I visited a laundromat a block from my apartment, as they have a beautiful Ms. Pac-man cab. When I started to play it with scoring in mind, it was so much more fun. I love Pac-man. High score on the machine is 200,000+ though, which will be tough to beat.

Sadly, there's no arcade here I've found that has anything really neat that'll keep me coming back on a regular basis. Best yet's been a nice Raiden II cab, but it's quite a walk.

You know it!

Let me tell you what the cheapskates did.....MvC2 got put into the double cabinet that Alpha 2 was in. Turns out, they got a note from the higher ups to sell MVC2 for $700 along with whatever cabinet it happened to be in ( again, at the time, the double cabinet ).

So, they switched it out, and put CVS1 into the double cabinet, and put MVC2 into a single cabinet in the back of the arcade, because there were people who were seriously contemplating taking out loans to buy it. Guess they didn't want to part with the double.

Now, it's no longer the money maker it once was.

Anyhow, we haven't recieved a worthwhile game in almost 2 years now.

Seven Force, how are arcades doing in Japan? The one where I live (in the U.S.) is pretty desolate--it's always empty, with the exception of people playing SC2 and Crusin' World (ugh).

That being said, the last time I spent great sums of cash there was when I came across a Super GT cab.

There's a brand spanking new movie theatre that opened near me that has a Super GT cab. I'll go to movies just to play that for half an hour before the show starts.

there is one arcade around here, but it is overridden with DDR players and MvsC2 fanboys. but they do have a Virtual On and a couple of Neo Geo cabs. thats about it, though. havent been to it in awhile, but i went to this restaraunt last week and spent $2 on Pacman. got past the 45th board. oh yeah. :D

Maybe a month+ ago... Played some Planet Harriers and House of the Dead III. No big deal. Wasn't in there for more than half an hour.

They need some more games that are actually worth a damn.

Been a couple weeks, sadly, but only because I've been really busy. I still frequent arcades, and still spend time trying to get that high score in raiden fighters or whatever.

Whenever I go to the mall, I usually stop in and play a round or two of CVS2, might even throw .75 into Pump It Up.

I play almost everyday at Playland here in State College -- one of the last great arcades around. Oh the games they have! There are a bunch of us who still play Marvel quite alot because well I love it and make everyone else play it. We have been doing a lot of low tier lately and will be running low tier tourneys during the fall semester.

Personally, this arcade does it right by having the mainstream stuff like racing, shooting games along with the niche stuff like MS 3 and 4. Plus we have a large Asian pop/girl gamers up here and the puzzle games get a lot of play.

I went to an arcade about two months ago, and left right after playing one game of Tekken 4. The game selection was pathetic.

A couple of weeks ago, to get my semi-regular Raiden Fighters Jet fix. Shame my visit coincided with one of my worst gaming performance days EVER :(

(Definitely the wrong day to start playing Progear, too :sweat: )

Should be going back tomorrow, hopefully I'll do better this time..

Since I was like....uhhhh..I'll say 8 I've made it a habit to stop by an arcade once a week. I started becomming a regular at Sunnyvale Golfland around the time Alpha 2 came out.

Rececently though, I've had to cut back drastically, so I really only get to stop by once a month for some CVS2 and IIDX =\ I'm scared of EVO2K3 now, I bet I'm really out of it.

at my school we have a crappy arcade with an SNK machine, and other crap. The only thing that kicked ass.. was the Raiden Fighters JEt machine... But since they got rid of it, and replaced it with Raiden 1.. i havent stoped by..

I went to the arcades constantly from the late 80's, to the mid 90's. I went every weekend, and always made it a point to go the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve, as those are the busiest shopping days, and the arcades were always packed. There were SIX arcades within 2 miles from my home. Alladins Castle was the place to be in the mid 90's. They sponsored tournaments for various fighters for prizes, but one real cool thing they did was the midnight lock-ins where they would open up the arcade after hours, and you paid 5 bucks, and all the games were set to free-play for 2 hours. After Tekken 3 was released, they started to scale down the tournaments, until eventually they dissappeared all together a few years later. For the last few years of the late 90's, I only went to play pinball, and eventuallty stopped going all together. It's been many years since I've spent any large amount of money in the arcade, and I only go to one if I have some time to kill

BTW, what is you guy's definition of an "Arcade". I consider it an arcade if it has 10 or more cabinets. Besides the 6 above, there's some other places that have a few cabinets, such as small resturants, and convenient stores.

Probably High School, really ;) Since then I was a regular at this one Donut shop in Chico, CA, where they had an X-Men vs Street Fighter there. It's kinda odd, most of the Donut shops in that town have arcade games :D

Last week. I still try to go to the closest one to me (read: 45 min drive) weekly. Soul Calibur 2, Beatmania, and DDRExtreme keep me coming back.

Some months back, I went for the weekly afternoon of Soul Calibur 2 and DDR, with stuff like Virtual On (nobody plays it, of course), Virtua Cop and Daytona USA on the side. I haven't been going recently, but that's because of a lack of money. That'll change soon enough.

Last time I went was during Christmas break when my cousin (who likes Soul Calibur) was visiting. We went to play SC2 at the arcade, but the shitty monitor combined with the absense of any competition compelled us to play it only a couple times. I was like, meh, I'll wait for the home version. A year ago the same arcade had good competitors going at the Tekken, MvsC, and SC machines. Now those cabinets are in the corners, the center of the arcade is a DDR machine and some gigantic Star Trek Voyager game. The rest is gigantic sports cabinets too.

Last summer, at a mini-golf place in Windham, Maine. They had a Strikers 1945 Plus MVS cab, but they had it placed so that the evening sun glared RIGHT into the screen, the 1P start button didn't work, and the 2P joystick (which I had to use) was pretty un-responsive. They also had a Gyruss cab, which I initally drooled over, but I was quickly let down when I discovered that the joystick was completely fucked up.

My girlfriend and I had a better time playing air hockey, anyway, so it wasn't a complete waste of time wandering in there. :)

I live 20 minutes away from 10 differnt arcades.
But most of the games they have these days suck.

About a week ago. It's never really worth going anymore, only MvC2 gets any kind of real play. I tend to only go to get in a game or two of Viper Phase 1 these days.

I used to go to a local place every friday because it was ten dollars for fee play, but now they don't do it anymore, and also this particular arcade is begining to suck... actually it does suck, not many good games anymore...

The last time I seriously went to an arcade to spend money... hmmm... had to have been about three years ago. And all we ended up doing was playing on the air hockey table.

An actual "arcade establishment"? 1999, when I went to the local arcade to play the newly released SF3: 2nd Impact. They got rid of it a month later, and between 1999-2001 they went sorely downhill. By 2001 all they had was a bunch of carnival games, random shooting/racing games, MvC, Tekken 3, and pool tables. They've since closed up because they suck, and all their games are located at the new theater here. I was last there whoopin' ass in MvC Easter sunday when I went to see Bulletproof Monk. :o

I miss arcades. I remember back in the mid 90s when MK2 was the best thing since sliced bread and they had it in the giant 35-40" monitor cabinet, like 40 of us would spend countless dollars just playing, showing shit off to eachother, etc. :(

About 2 weeks ago I went to the arcade a few blocks from me. The Truxton 2 machine wasn't even powered up, and they no longer had Dimahoo. Those were the only 2 games I wanted to play, so I ended up playing Crisis Zone instead, but the rumble feature in the gun wasn't working, so that kinda sucked. I left after about 15 minutes.

Last time I was in Tilt the CVS2 monitor was so fucked up that I couldn't see what was going on... did they fix that yet?

The Aladdin's castle in the local mall closed in 2000. It sucked anyway with all the deluxe cabs that were to suck a few quarters.

There was a great little arcade with four Neo Geo cabs, three versions of Street Fighter, Raiden 2, and others...but no one went there because it got little exposure. Lasted like 8 months.

That killed the arcade business in my town, there was great arcade in a mall about 60 miles away but it was ripped out and replaced by a food court. *-neo

About a week ago. The local arcades here aren't too bad, but a few of them unfortunately rely on illegally modified Dreamcasts to make them money.

December, right before Golfland went out of business.

Or if you count the campus arcade, Thursday.

well sinece the great erie, pa has one piece of shit hole in the wall at the mall sporting tekken 4 as its newest game.....i dont go there. the last time i went to a real arcade was at the Playdium by Toronto. man that place was great. i also went to the Namco arcade in the Buffalo Galleria (?) not too long ago. by that i mean prolly 3-4 years :D is the Playdium still there?
