Yet another reason to despise SUVs.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever read. If automakers could dish out an SUV with better gas mileage...guess what? They would.
SUVs are evil, but not because of their fuel economy ratings.

I inherited my Ford Explorer from my momma. I don't really care if I ruin the world or not. It gets me and my friends where we want to go.
what's worse? One SUV to carry 7 people, or 7 VW/BMW/Saturn/amll/sport cars for each person?
And you know...not everyone who owns a SUV is just a one person per car situation. It's usually because they have a large family...or take their kid + friends all over the place. I still don't get why you would demonize someone purely for the purpose that they need something larger than a 4-door to effectively go about their driving routines...
Now, if you hated em because they're ugly (and they are), that's another story.
I have an SUV. Its a 2001 Toyota Rav 4.
I almost always drive solo.
In fact, I took my back seats out so I can only drive with one passanger.

I like SUVs because they piss off people I dislike. Gas is cheap enough in America that fuel usage doesn't really make all that much of a difference, SUVs are safer, and we've got the space here to let people drive whatever the fuck they like.
I wouldn't drive an SUV because they're not interesting to drive, for the most part - that's just not how my tastes run, but if I could, I'd be happy seeing everyone in America in their own big fucking Escalades, rolling on deuce-deuces or whatever.
