I agree with Frog about the music. It is definitely a major part of Phantasy Star's appeal. The setting is the major reason I love Phantasy Star. Other RPGs have better gameplay but PStar's world is just amazing.
Whoever did the music for PSO, lock him in a cage with a keyboard and cubase and never set him free, in case he gets hit by a car or something. Some of those tracks are just incredible.
I remember one of the first times I was online, really late at night, and nobody was around in the lobby. I stood there, with my character staring out at the stars, just absorbing that music for a good 5-10 minutes. And I wasn't even stoned or anything.
The only old PStar I've played is II, and I really hate it. But the setting and style are definitely excellent, and Sonic Team did an incredible job of updating it for PSO. Hook them up with an actual writer, and I'm all for them doing an offline epic.
