I wasn't sure whether to post this on the MGS3 Trailer thread or give it it's own thread, but after the leaking of the MGS3 trailer, I doubt that a single Twin Snakes screenshot would cause the same amount of impact either way at this point. It's taken from a Brazilian Nintendo fansite, btw.
I care. I like MGS quite a bit, and I'm definitely looking forward to the remake.
That shot looks like it could be real.
Either way, Snake Eater probably won't come out until next year, so Twin Snakes will fill in everyone's Metal Gear-fix for this year.Quote:

I care. MGS is one of my all time favorites. I want this more then part 3 after the garbage that was part 2.
What I don't understand is why these companies feel the need to remake games from one hardware generation ago. That's like someone today deciding to remake the first X-Men movie from 2000. I think it would be cooler if they waited a lot longer before doing this- I wouldn't mind a remake of Snatcher being made now so I can see what all the hoopla was about.

I care too. The tranq. gun and being able to go into 1st person view were gameplay elements that added so much to MGS2, that I remember wishing it would have been implimented in MGS.
This game will be a must buy for me.

See in the point of what Dolemite said, I think it's completely worthless. They made a lot of changes to the gameplay for MGS2, that's why they would make it again, not because the graphics or anything. I think you got mixed up Dolemite, if it were just a remake for graphical purposes, it would be worthless.

MGS2 doesn't have that many changes to the core gameplay. I just don't see the point in remaking a recent game, I for one would prefer a new game with a new story. If I want to play MGS I'll play MGS. I think Lucas is right- this looks like the PC version, which has the first person mode added to it. If so, they're just going for the quickie cash run to make it look like they're supporting the GC instead of actually making a new game.Quote:

I'm not mixed up about anything- all I'm saying is that, if people keep doing remakes, pretty soon all games will become like Madden. "Ah, you get MGS '05? They added the tippy-toe move and updated the villian roster. Now playing through Shadow Moses island will be fresh all over again!" ;)

If they're seriously playing around with the gameplay concepts and evening out the cinema/action balance, I could go for it, but I still would prefer a new game. If it's just the PC port why bother.

Looks fake to me. Like Lucas said, it looks pretty close to the PC version... while you can't shoot in first person, it was a bit higher resolution than what you got on the PS1 (duh). The gun and the hand look like they took a shot from MGS2 with Raiden holding up the Socom, and pasted over a shot from the PC version.
At least I hope so, since this is slightly underwhelming. In four days time all will be revealed anyway.
I am sure the GC version will look a lot better ;)

The PC version was just a port of MGS: Integral (sans Sneaking Suit Meryl unfortunately), which in turn was just the original MGS with the VR Missions disc. That is NOT a PC screenshot. And the heliport is much more detailed too.Quote:

I don't remember any version of MGS having italicized exclamation points (soldier in the background).
i thought the PC version had improved textures, and some tiny additions.
those graphics are just too weak. the game looks like a suped up port of the PSone game.
this new game is running on a suped up version of the MGS2 engine. now way it can look that bad.
and once again, the interface is the same. picture can't be Twin Snakes. i don't buy it.
Upon reinspection there's more geometry than in the PC version and shadows that weren't there before.

I've never played a MGS game through to completion, would it work well on a GC pad? If not then no problem, i'll just use an adaptor and get DS2.
Those graphics look fine to me, I expect 60fps though.
I can say I am actually looking forward to the Twin Snakes too. It's odd , though. I feel both ways about it. On one hand, I agree with seeing MGS get a cool GC-graphics overhaul, but keep everything else about the PSX MGS the same (so, technically, it's just a graphics upgrade). On the other hand, I agree with Dolemite, in the sense that it's only one generation ago, but also that MGS took full advantage of the PSX hardware and that was always a nice showpiece for the system...that, and i don't want them to mess anything up (i.e.- voice acting, cinemas, etc.). By the way Dolemite, if we get technical, since Snatcher was on the Sega CD, it too had a "one generation overhaul" to the Saturn and PSX.....and look at what happened there ;)

See? I was right. I know my Metal Gear and I could tell that screenshot wasn't from the PC version the minute I saw it. I think the screenshot looks fine to me. The interface wasn't really that different in MGS2 either, so I don't what's the bitching about. And it's not fair to judge the game based on a single blurry screenshot. That shot looks about as good as MGS2 to me, which is what they promised. You have to take into account the quality of the screen, which isn't good.

It does have a higher resolution, but it only makes the game look craptastic in comparison to the PS1 original All the "improvements" (including the First-Person Mode) were already included in MGS: Integral (a Japan-only upgrade to the original MGS1, kinda like Substance was to MGS2).Quote:

Yea that definitely looks quite a bit better than what I remembered it looking like on the PC. But like it's been said, the shot is blurry as all hell, so it should look even better when some official shots (and hopefully a swanky trailer too) are released a few days from now.
Seeing an MGS2 caliber Snake model for this game, sans mullet, will be cool enough in and of itself. :)
That, and seeing the equally cool Liquid Snake and Grey Fox rendered lovingingly by the Gamecube. (Sorry for the rampant fanboyism).
I'm not going to comment on the shot because its not good in quality and I think the guys at Silicon Knights can do way better than this.

Yea, I know you can play as Snake with the MGS1 sneaking suit, but he's got his flowing mullet in tow. Since Naomi and friends shave off most of his hair before MGS1 starts, it leaves Liquid as the only long-haired Snake of the first MGS. If you use the Night Vision Goggle, he puts the faceplate on, making us forget he's Raiden for a moment. Unfortunately, it's only available for him in only one Variety Mission. Any GameShark codes to play as Ninja Raiden in the main game?Quote:

anyways, this should look a lot better.
still, it's a bad picture, but even then, a bad picture shouldn't make the poly count look any lower. this is pretty damn disapointing. although i can't really say im suprised, especially with how bad Silicon Knights did with upgrading the graphics for Eternal Darkness.

Bah, don't bash SK for their work in Eternal Darkness... given the game's N64 roots I think they did an admirable job making that game pretty damn good looking in the end.

I hear that MGS Integral for PSone had a limited FPS mode. Is that true?
Cause honestly, I just can't get over how much this looks like a slightly upgraded PSone game. They did say that the game was gonna run on a suped up MGS2 engine. It just isn't adding up.
Did Konami bother doing any extra work on the the game graphically for PSone?
I just really want the developer to make really good use of the hardware with this game.
What are the chances that it's photoshopped?

Okay, at this point, I give up. All I can say is...this is Silicon Knights. I should have expected it. I also hope that these are just early pictures.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the game is gonna suck, but just another underwhelming Silicon Knights game. Graphically that is. This team really should do a lot better graphically.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about those ports. Graphical uplift, with a couple of added goodies (and, in the case of the PSX version, some censorship), but otherwise the same game. However, in a sense, the remakes for Snatcher made a bit more sense, since the Sega CD didn't have anywhere near the market penetration of the Playstation, on which the original Metal Gear Solid first appeared. The Sega CD to PSX transition was hardly an overhaul. And if you want to get technical the Sega CD version was an update of the PCE-CD version which in turn was remake of the original MSX version. And it was quite alot better than that.Quote:

this is the bad thing of seeing early shots or early demos
the game probably still has sooo much work and this is probably far from what the finished product will look like
its like that doom III alpha that was leaked and every one was making performance assumptions off that when the game still has obviously tons of work left to do on it
wait for later shots cause this to me looks way early
like they got the main game engine up and running and just dropped in some rough models
and man look at those early metroid prime shots
holy shit was that low poly the bottom shot looks ALMOST like it could have been done on the N64 with how low poly it looks
The screenshot is too messy to form an opinion about the graphics. I see that FPS shooting has been added, now I can be one of the people who say "I care".
The only thing that sort of bothers me about that screen is the detail on the arctic gear soldiers. I would have expected some better texture work and shadowing but then again I still have to take into account the quality of the pic.
What does look much better is that the searchlights are clear and well rendered(maybe the PSone version shot has the light shining towards the camera and it is fully rendered), metal crates are smooth and clean, the truck/the armrail/backrounds are less dark and better modeled. Anyway I'm still hightly anticipating this and the better screens should show a better looking Snake and crew.

Well, if we are gonna nitpick even further, allow me to retort ;) Agreed that the Sega CD to PSX wasn't an overhaul, I was just following what Dolemite said...It was just an updated version for the newer systems, albeit with subpar results. I don't agree, however, that the Sega CD version was an update to the PC-E version. Depending how you view it, the Sega CD and Pc-Engine were KINDA competitors, so the Sega CD version is kinda like releasing Madden on 2 different systems, each having their own strengths (even the producers of the Sega CD version viewed it as such). Also, even further nitpicking, since the Sega CD version was never available in Japan, in their timeline, it was on the PC-Engine, then next on the PSX and Saturn, so over there, at least, it skipped a generation ;) Anyways, all nitpicking aside, the Sega CD version still is the best, dammit! Now...what was the topic again? Oh yeah! The Twin Snakes game :) I'm still looking forward to it too. I know it may sound odd, but I just want another Resident Evil remake on GC..i.e.- great new graphics, extra storyline elements, better voice acting (ok, MGS HAD good voice acting so no changes there), but nothing deleted from the original versions. Yeah!! Bring it on!!

No, they added more story clarification to the 3rd act too, and I don't care if there was a comic of it, the intro was new. the Sega CD one came out 2 years later, and it had new crap added. That makes it an update. Wether or not you consider it substantial, they added things that they could have put in the Turbo CD version that they didn't, thus meaning it was more than a straight port with the benefit of better hardware.Quote:

Again, the bonuses were just (positive) side-effects of the English translation (kinda like the added difficulty levels in the English MGS1). Think of it however you want, but the game is still a port/translation of the PC Engine's "CD-ROMantic" edition.Quote:
