Hybrid Dawn Characters (11th pic -ROMZI and NAIA)

I had to stop doing the character shots for a bit and work on the cover. I just finished the pencils, and now I have to ink and paint it (ugh...I hate inking). I would just paint on the pencils, but they just weren't clean enough for a scan... Obviously, it looks pretty busy right now, but when color and a light source is added, the composition should come together a bit more.

edit: Oh yeah, the reason you can see lines through the woman in the front is because, storyline-wise, she's like a ghost (it's pretty complicated), and will be semi-translucent. A lot of effects and things like that will need to be realized in the painting (also, the small character in the upper-righthand corner will be "hazed out", as if she's far in the distance).

Okay, I've finally managed to color this illustration...it's not entirely done, as it's the game cover, and needs a the title and all that stuff...but it's essentially done.

Now, this is a huge, hi-res image. I'm really shrinking it down here to fit on the forum. Assuming most monitors out there still show stuff at 72 dpi, I'll give a link to a larger version of the image, but it'll probably be really big. (hmm...550k as a jpeg, shouldn't be too bad).

edit: Damn, I've already found things that need to be fixed...eh, I'm done for today though. Don't you hate that...if you look at any image long enough...eventually all you notice are the errors...oh, and jpeg compression is nasty...these look 300% better in their original and/or non-compressed formats. But, that's the web for ya.

Not only is that art work truly incredible, but the character designs are so unique and obscure, that it would make one of the coolest and hardest to love character casts of all time, in my humble opinion. Great art, and originality, very nice.

Thanks, that means a lot to me. Really. Although I assume you meant to say, "...hardest not to love.." Otherwise, I'm just confused :)

I went into this project thinking it would be a cakewalk, but it's remarkably difficult to come up with original characters and content when you're required to...espeically with a mental catalogue of thousands of character from comics, anime, and videogames (hundreds of fighting game characters alone) that you're subconsciously drawing from. I was surprised how many times I noticed my original design and story borrowed from something existing, and sometimes in a not so subtle way :sweat: Even my final designs have their definite influences if you look for them.

Maybe I'll post the story synopsis and character bios sometime...they're fairly extensive, and I don't think anyone would really be interested, but all the background information is there where this ever to be an actual game.

That's what I say about that guy at goodbrush.com ...it's all relative I suppose. Plus, I'm really bad at math now, since I went for BA instead of BS ;)

That's Vessa, the character in the first post. .This thread also has technical drawings of all the characters.

edit: Oh...you probably mean the far back...that's Mer-Anne, in Valkyrie Unit armor...you can see a much better drawing of her in the other thread too.

Colouring.... amazing.

The front man reminds me a LOT of Akuma from street fighter, his facial features. but I love his zombie look. Looks like nothing will stop him from achieving his goal or something.

Nah, I meant hardest to love because of how close minded some people can be, it may be so different that it turns off a lot of people. But that's my personal opinion based on the people around me, so it's probably a bit corrupted.
