E.SWAT doesn't count right?
I cannot believe those didn't come to mind when I was making this thread. Blaster Master may have been my favorite non-Konami NES game.Quote:

*Hangs head in shame*
Um, the original Metroid didn't have a map. Either did Blaster Master and both games kicked so much ass. Don't be scared, give em a shot.;)Quote:

To my knowledge blaster master lacked a map.
My favorite Metroidish game would have to be Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.
The first metroid wasnt that big of a game. I didnt seem to get lost that much in it.Quote:

But Metroid 2, forgetaboutit, not having a map equals unecessary frustration.
The Monster World games should fit into category. *-neo
That's a stretch. They fit better into Zelda's genre than Metroid's if you ask me.Quote:

Zillion was the main one that popped into my mind.
Aside froma few activision games (most of which were good) there really weren't any 3rd party SMS games. Cyborg Hunter wasSega methinks.Quote:

I loved Zillion 1, hard ass game too. Can't believe I beat it. You could also go back to your ship and heal as well (did they have that in Metroid 1, I forget). If you mention SMS adventure/quest type games then you got to mention Kenseiden and Spellcaster,Quote:

KEnseiden was awesome, but the format was pretty different.
That reminds me, NeoZeedeater, I beat the japanese Kenseiden. No credits roll, I'm afraid :(
Thanks for checking it out Frog.
There were a small handful of SMS third-parties during its domestic life besides Activision's(Like Cyborg, Rampage was done by Sega).
Taito had Rastan, Parker Bros. had Montezuma's Revenge, King's Quest, Carmen Sandiego and Ultima IV, Absolute had RC Grand Prix, U.S. Gold had Gauntlet and Impossible Mission, and Tengen had Paperboy. These all came in North America.
