It looks more demented than the 1st one...
I loved the first one. I hope this one gets an XBOX release.
Sold.
It will be mine :)
As for Xbox version, it will come out. Probably 6 months after PS2 one.
Oh Hell Yes.
i never understood how people could get freaked or spooked by a game (including the silent hill games) until i played fatal frame. great stuff.
Man, I still have to pick up the first one.
Is the Xbox version improved over the PS2?
Yes, Xbox version has improved graphics, better sound(5.1), additional extras.
Xbox version is the one to get.
The trailer.
"No, don't look in there... NO!"
High Quality - 16mb run time 2:06
Low Quality - 6.9mb, run time 2:06
Still need to get the first one, but will definately get the second one no matter how scary it can get.
I thought Fatal Frame was a fresh look on a used genre that was increadibly well done. Considering how much originality and how many events were mashed into it still played just as intense as a shooter.
I've just started playing the first one and I'm left unimpressed. Is all the horror involving shooting fast moving ghosts with your camera? I'm easily frightened, Resident Evil and (especially) Silent Hill have freaked me out a good number times, but the ghosts in FF just don't do it for me. Maybe because they're intagible, all they can really do is hug you and you're health meter goes down. That's not scary to me, scary would be running down a hallway with a hunter leaping at you.
I dunno man. Ghosts in FF are freaking scary. Unlike slow stumbling Zombies of RE, these bastards are fast and vicious. Plus their moans are really unnerving, and add alot to the atmosphere. FF way scarrier than RE games. But I guess everyone has their own perception, and whats scary to one, might be not to other.
I finally picked up Fatal Frame for xbox so I'll give this topic a little bump. Overall, I love the game (while I only mildly like RE series and disliked SH2), but there's some things the devs need to do for the sequel to be great:
1. Play Illbleed - They've already stolen ideas from other games in the genre and I think the scare factors and pulse rates from Illbleed would fit in very well.
2. Ditch the fixed camera angles - no 3D game should ever have them. They are the tool of the devil. They mess up the controls and also result in cheap hits.
3. Hire a decent texture artist - Steal the guy or girl who did the textures for SH2. Lousy game, but the visuals were unbelieably good. The textures in FF just make the game lose a lot of possible impact. It needs more polys as well, especially in the cut-scenes.
4. Take advantage of the xbox for the port - partly going along with 3, but this game is in serious need of bump mapping. It would be a huge help to the visuals. Also, the way the game saves is like it's saving to a memory card. Saving to a hard drive should take an eyeblink. Also the loading takes longer than it should even for simple things, though maybe my copy is defective.
5. Steal less from other games - this may contradict 1, but really about the only game mechanic original to FF is the camera, everything else is lifted from either RE or SH, right down to the fonts used for the journals. The way the ghosts move in third person was giving me RE zombie flashbacks and the hiss of the recorder made me think I was going to be attacked by some messed up manniquen creature from SH2.
Still a lovely game though. Not scary in the least, though Illbleed is still the only game that has ever scared me so I guess I'm hard to shake.
Hmm, I didnt find Illbleed scary at all. Maybe cause its way to campy attitude.
Ammadeu, some of your complaints come from the fact that Xbox version of FF is still a port of PS2 game, so thats why some of the texture and graphical qualities are not as high as you would expect from Xbox game. Same goes for saving feature, since they had to change memory card saving to hhd saving to accomindate Xbox hhd.
i wish i could find fatal frame scary. there are a lot of good ideas in the game and i love the atmostphere. the terrible voice acting ruined it. ugh. i have a hard time enjoying any japanese horror game for the same reason. i can usually overlook poor voice acting in every other genre, but it's absolutely vital to horror.
Hmm, I didnt even noticed that VA was bad :p Hmm didnt seem to be as bad as in RE to me.
well, it wasn't as bad as resident evil, but it still wasn't great. i'm completely taken out of a game when it sounds like a typical american anime dub. for reference, good voice acting = grim fandango, eternal darkness.
Silent Hill 2 was also a port and the textures are some of the best I've ever seen in any game. So that's no excuse. I've also played ports that save to the hard drive like an exclusive xbox game. Maybe I should change that to say 'Don't be lazy'Quote:

Well, I'm surprised that Tecmo didnt do a better job then, knowing their big Xbox involment.
Fatal Frame 1 was an incredible game, and to say that Resident Evil is scarier is beyond ludicrous to me.
Illbleed rules. And I don't know about you, but the Toy Story rip-off level was the scariest thing in any game, ever. ;)
Damn, that was what I was talking about... Just the mention of it was enough to give me the shakes. Jesus H. Christ man there is so much wrong with that part of the game... I think if I ever watch Toy Story again I'll start screaming and babbling incoherently. I'm definitely never going to play that part of the game again. :chick:Quote:

Fatal Frame is still a lot of fun even if it's about as scary as Disney's haunted mansion.
Team Ninja worships the Xbox, and I wish they'd influence Tecmo as a whole.
This game would really benefit from being an Xbox exclusive, and that'd differentiate it even more from the REs and SHs of the world.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying it day one, but I'm just sayin'
The Toy level in Illbleed was great, but no way should it have been that far into the game, they really needed to change the order of the levels. The ideas got progressivly worse. Still loved every minute of it though.
Fatal Frame 2 is 2nd on my buy list!
New screens from Magic Box http://www.the-magicbox.com/game080803g.htm
This is like, 3 or 4 in my most wanted list along with Virtua Fighter Quest, Ninja Gaiden, and DOA Online.
I think the ghosts look amazing in Fatal Frame 2. That is all.
There is a new preview at Gamespot
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/adventur...w_6081787.html
Game comes out on Tuesday.
DELAYED.
December 10th.
Are. You. Serious?
You rushed to beat the first one too, that sucks.
On the plus side, that leaves more money for Mario and Luigi, DDR UltraMix, and FFX-2
Never played Fatal Frame. Now I want to. I hear much of it was inspired from Ring.
It's out.
It's awesome.
The intro video is pretty creepy, but it's kinda spoilerish also. Beware.
Damn, I really want to play part 2, but no money means I cant have it :(
I will try to rent it though. Looking forward reading the impressions here.
The combat has definately been tweaked.
You really need to get up into the faces of these ghosts now (at least, maybe until you upgrade the camera a bit), but that's a GOOD thing, 'cause it makes it way scarier.
There's also a lot more customization with the way you upgrade the camera.
The atmosphere is WAY creepy, but it starts off a lottle slower than the first one did. At least, until you get to the first FMV inside a house, which is like, the scariest thing ever.
Watch out for the woman that emerges from the box... MWAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!1
Shit, I so want it :p
Did you get it early? Everywhere I've seen said the 11th.
Money is burning a hole in my pocket, that could put it out.
Do it.
And yeah, my store tends to get stuff a little early, we got it last night/yesterday.
Hotness.
You have no idea. :)
I just discovered that you can do "combos" now.
I got a 3 hit.
My goodness, this snuck up outta nowhere, didn't it?
It's on - the first game still freaks me out major, and the sequel looks to up the fright factor substantially.
I want this game.
D
I do!!!Quote:

Go out? WTF? You never go out when I invite you.
Anyway, I've been in your game playing space and there is NO WAY you're gonna be able to play FF2 tomorrow with all that glare.

Real World Facts about Fatal Frame
"The intriguing story of the Mansion in the game generated interest in the legends of the family and the bizarre rituals they practiced, and friends drove friends to play the game so they could also experience the chilling tale of the Himuro family."
Even with friends, it was still scary as hell.
I don't leave for work until about 3. Call my house. Leave a message.Quote:

Any word of a future Xbox port?
None that I've seen. I'm going to have to pick this up tomorrow... unfortunately my weekend has to be spent studying for finals. :(
I can't believe there's so little discussion about this game.
I've been working... what do you expect.
I'm still on chapter 2, I'm still scared... well that's about it.
I've got it... but I haven't gotten a chance to play it yet... too busy preparing for finals this week.
I'm stuck on chapter 6.
So I ordered this game off of amazon marketplace for half price brand new and got it on monday. I've played a bit while my gf watches and I have to say I've loved what they've done to the sequel. Theres so much more strategy in getting the ghosts now.
Some ghosts you have to let them get close so they can attack you then peal on out of there and catch them missing and bam you can shoot for a fatal frame and then a combo zero shot. How many combos can you get up to? I've only gotten 2 hits and I see someone got a 3, what's the max?
I love this game so much. The atmosphere is so much better than any other game of it's kind. And I think the other games are great too but theres just something about ghosts, the camera, the music and the graphics.. woowww. When I'm looking through the camera that grainy look makes everything look so real. I scared the shit out of myself a few times now just looking around the room only to come face to face with AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH oh wait that's my sister. FEwwwwwww.
I love how now you have to deal with multiple ghost forcing you to explore how to get rid of them faster lest they make a poltergeist sandwhich out of you. Once I got the Fatal Frame indicator my skill jumped up considerably but so did the scare factor since I have to wait till the last second and then if I miss I'm screwed. I didn't notice what chapter I'm up to but the last thing I did was get the two keys from the shrines.
In the last game no ghosts scared me more than 1) the kids, nothing freaks me out more than dead or possesed kids... the laughter (chills) 2) "My eyes" bitch, she truly had my skin crawling just hearing the words. If they can match those two in this game I'll be putting this as my top scariest game ever.
If you haven't played this game yet get it now.
D
see now im the opposite. silent hill and re did nothing scare wise for me, but the moment i saw a ghost come thru the walls to get me.....fuck that.Quote:

I've gotten scared by SH and RE but I'd say they were more cheap scares since it was just something that jumped out of nowhere or something similar and on the spur of the moment I jumped but quickly regained my cool whereas in FF it's an atmosphere that gets underneath your skin and raises the hair on your neck.
Since I was a kid I've heard all sorts of stories about ghosts, which makes FF a little more tangible for me in terms of freak factor since people have stories about them. Compared to SH or RE there are no stories of the monsters in there and therefore it's a little less scary since I don't have any past stories or ideas to associate with the monsters of those games. I'll admit that SH is scarier than RE but I'd put both of them in the same category whereas FF is completely new. You don't have guns or pipes or knives, you have a camera and you don't just hold a trigger to lock on and shoot away till the thing dies you actually have to use your skill to center on the ghost and take the shot multiple times before it dies all the while knowing very well that it can dissapear and reappear from anywhere.
Nothings freakier than being in the camera mode losing track of the ghost, look left right than come out of the viewfinder mode only to realize "Holyshit it's right behind me" and burn on out of there to safety before turning around to put some more hurt on the ghost.
Theres also the fact that once you see the monsters in SH or RE you pretty much don't see many new ones throughout therefore know their behavior the next time you encounter them. In FF every ghost you meet has it's own behavior and attack pattern making it a challenge everytime since you have to figure out the best plan of attack.
D
i agree with everything you said. i just dont like to type that much :D i never finished the first and want to give the new one a try.
Yeah I'm at work and therefore have the time to type this much. Besides I think this game deserves much more credit than it's getting. Even though it's only on the PS2 it's still a beautiful game... scary as hell too.
My gf asked me yesterday if she could control and I watch so I handed the controller over to her and she was doing great searching for clues, navagating from room to room when suddenly the red/orange indicator came on and the heartbeat of Mio started vibrating through the controller she fucking jumped up screaming "I can't play this, I can't play this here you take the joystick." and then for the next 30 mins she kept questioning me "How can you remember what button to press when you're almost shitting your pants?"
She said it was the scariest experience she'd every experienced including movies, and she's a big fan of horror/thriller.
Love this game.

haha, thats golden right there :)Quote:

Fatal Frame was the scarriest gaming experience I ever had, and its good that sequel manages to keep it up, and maybe even add more to creepiness/scarrieness factor.
And ghosts in FF are way scarrier than monsters and zombies in RE.
That's because RE is like the B movie of survival horror. It's cheesy and poorly acted. :p
Sigged. :)Quote:

I bought this back when it first came out, but didn't start playing it until last week. Just beat it last night - LOVED the game. At one point, I finally had to play with some sort of small light on in the room, because I was freaking myself out too much. *heh* There is just something about Japanese culture and traditions that make for some f**ked-up scary material.
My next goal is to beat all of the missions on any rank at first, because I NEED those EGL costumes.
Stop.
Just wait. You know the Xbox version is going to be better, and have a bunch more unlockables. Just trade in your PS2 version now while it's still worth something, so you don't burn out on it before the Xbox rev comes out (October I think)
Details of Xbox Fatal Frame 2.
Finally.
Frame 3 is also mentioned as being in development - due in 2005 and "completely different."
The first Fatal Frame didn't scare me at all, but it had a cool atmosphere and once I figured it out as a shooter (it took me a while to realize that different types of shots like zero & core shots had different effects) it was a pretty fun game. I've been waiting a couple of months for the Xbox version of the sequel; I'll be getting it for sure at some point.
I don't want some stupid Xbox version, but it now sounds like I might have to pick it up anyhow. I just love this game too much.
The Xbox version of any port is always better.
I will buy Xbox version some day, and finally give this game a try.
Can't wait.
I, however, would like to have as few Xbox games as possible. Come the next generation of hardware, my PS2 games will move on with me. My Xbox games, however, will not.Quote:

The first Fatal Frame just plain looked better on Xbox as did Silent Hill 2. I am buying Silent Hill 4 for Xbox, as that one will look and possibly play better too. I still do love PS2 for JRPG and quirky Japanese games though.Quote:

I've got maybe ten Xbox games right now, and I've almost got every game that I want that has been released on the Xbox up to this point. (And, to be honest, a few of the games I have now are ones I only have because they were free with the system or through some promotion.) I think the Xbox is a great piece of hardware, but seriously lacking in good games FOR ME. Without question, the two main factors for me even having an Xbox are Xbox Live and JGR Future. If the PS2 or GC had a service the quality of live, and had a wide variety of online games, I could easily see getting rid of my Xbox. (Or just turning it into a media center.) Simply having the console just to have the same games I could have on the PS2 or GameCube, just with slightly better graphics, seems like a waste to me.
I have both versions of PS2 Silent Hill 2, and played the Xbox version as well. I'm sorry, but the changes were not nearly enough for me to claim it superior. And when you look at SH3, that game was gorgeous - thus I expect SH4 to look just as great, if not better, on the PS2. If the Xbox was a huge step up in difference, and if Konami put enough work into an Xbox version to make it a huge difference, I would care. That, however, won't be the case.
And, as I mentioned before, I'm still giving Sony the benefit of the doubt when it comes to PS2 support on the PS3. I won't have both an Xbox or an Xbox 2 - it'll be either or. I'd rather not have a huge library of Xbox games that I won't be able to play if I move on to an Xbox 2. Call me an idiot for thinking like that if anybody wants to, but that's fine.
And while this isn't directly at you specifically, the last thing I want to hear from this place is why I shouldn't be coming down on the Xbox, when all half of this place does is bash the GC.
I really don't understand all the Gamecube hate either. I love Nintendo's games and the Cube can put out some really nice graphics. I think the stupid Nintendo fanboys, the ones who ONLY have a Gamecube, sour it for the rest of the people. I have all three systems and like all three for different reasons.Quote:

Yea... the Xbox and GameCube versions are ports of each other.
If the Xbox and GameCube versions were ports of the PS2 version, then GameSpot would've said that. They didnt.
Thanks for proving me right.
I'm weird about my sequels... I'd rather have SHs 2, 3, and 4 all on the same system instead of jumping back and forth. So I'm getting them all on the PS2.
It's not rational, but that's the way it is.
What seems irrational to me is putting SH 2 and 4 on the Xbox but skipping 3. You'd figure they bust out a late port before 4 hits at the very least.Quote:

It gets really old after a while. Depending on who you are and what you like, the GameCube has just as many good games as the Xbox, maybe a bit less, maybe a bit more. And this comes from somebody who dislikes Nintendo and who hasn't been a big fan of a Nintendo console since the NES.
I dont even accuse Nintendo of trying to make a "cute" system. I accuse them of making a shitty system, with shitty games, and a shitty attitude towards fans.
Shitty attitude I won't argue with. Shitty system and shitty games, however, are all a matter of opinion. (Which, obviously, you are entitled to.)Quote:

-Nintendo has made some fantasic games for GC, it's the third parties that dropped the ball on the software side of things. They made shit and cried themselves away when said shit mysteriously sold badly, whilst loudly and publicly blaming the GC rather than their own ineptitude. This scenario repeated itself and snowballed to the point where producing good software for the system lies solely on Nintendo's shoulders, with a rare assist by Capcom or Namco, and I think they've done as well as can be expected having been unfairly put into that situation.
-Shitty attitude towards the fans how? Outside of the reluctance to acknowledge demand for online play, I don't see any "shitty attitude", maybe a little unenlightened and playing for the wrong market, but not "shitty".
You had me 100% until you knocked online play.
