I don't think anyone is trying to say Advent Rising is a perfect game. It has some major bugs but this guy from gamespot missed some pretty big things. Not being aware of the targeting system alone would make the game nearly unplayable. But this "professional gamer" could not figure it out until someone on their forums pointed it out to him. There is also talk that the 2disc review copies of the game suffered from even more slowdown compared to the retail copies (see TXB review).
You just can't put stock into these people's opinions anymore. If this was a EA game I'd say fuck it but the guys who worked on Advent Rising deserve better. Their game may not be the picture of great coding but there has to be something said when a game that is as buggy as AR turns out to be a hell of fun to play.
I'd take a game of Advent Rising caliber over any one of EA's rush it out the door yearly update games.
btw- I hate EA ;)
That "deconstruction" is just more opinions to counter the GameSpot opinion. The GameSpot dude says, "the art design is derivative and lame" and the GameFAQs guy says, "no, the art design is STUNNING. End of story". Uhh, opinion! As for all the stuff about the Option Menu... the fact is that he was playing with the defaults. You shouldnt have to change 50 things in the option menu to get good gameplay.Quote:

diff, first, playing with the options menu was only needed if you didnt care for the default settings, its not needed. I never changed a single setting, and enjoyed it. and in fact most of the things you had to change in the options menu were also changeable in game, like the auto targeting, you didnt need to go into the options menu, you can just click the targeting stick to untarget, but if that bugs you, then you can go into the options menu. its not a matter of having to change everything, its a matter of being able to change settings if the defaults dont please you, which is kind of the point of an options screen. also its kind of funny for you to be dogging someone for stating opinion as fact, did he violate your copyright or something?Quote:

Yes, and all those games got rightly criticized for their bugs. I think San Andreas would be the best game ever if it wasnt held together with duct tape.Quote:

The fact is, saying someone is wrong because you think the art is good and they think its bad is dumb. You guys can all have your opinions, its cool. I pass off my opinions as fact on TNL but Im hardly the only one.Quote:

they guy based a good portion of his score on his opinion of the art and story, hence saying that the score should be higher because the art and story were not as abysmal as the reviewer said is not dumb, its contesting an area of the review. some games do have unredeemable art and story, the reviewer leads you to beleive this is one of those games, and the counter guy opposes that. id have said the same thing, and im certainly aware that my aesthetic tastes are not everyones. but to say the art or story are that bad, or even that similar to halo 2 is where the reviewer was incorrect.
I really loved this game. It was buggy as all hell, had framerate issues(especially early), and the flick targeting needs some work but I had a really fun time playing this game. The story was pretty bad ass as well.
One thing I really want to know is what happens if you help your fiance at the escape pod instead of your brother?
What happens if you help your brother? Your fiance ends up drowning when that ship gets blown up in the water.Quote:

If any one of you was participating in the Advent Rising $1,000,000 contest, don't get your hopes up. The contest has been officially cancelled, but there is some good news.
Not too bad. Phantom Dust is a good game, and I've heard good things about Psychonauts. Guilty Gear is also cool, but online play sucks.Quote:
As a consolation, Majesco is giving each person who participated in the "Race to Save Humanity" two free games from its recent catalog. By sending in the UPC from the Advent Rising box and the name of the registered GamerTag that participated in the contest, gamers can receive their choices of BloodRayne 2, Guilty Gear X2 #Reload, Psychonauts, Raze's Hell, and Phantom Dust.
